The transcript
R is officially for racist until an adult appears on the right. Don’t hold your breathe.
With that in mind, I give you GOP Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA21). When asked about teabaggers calling African American Representatives N!&&er, spitting on them, and calling gay Represenatives “F@&&0t”, he not only JUSTIFIED it, he seemed to endorse this level of hatred and intolerence.
Watch it for yourself.
A transcript, my interpretation and thoughts and more below the fold.
SCULLY: A lot of angry comments aimed at a couple of your colleagues, including Barney Frank and Congressman John Lewis, using the “n” word as some of the protesters jeered at him as he walked through the halls of the Capitol.
NUNES: Yeah, well I think that when you use totalitarian tactics, people, you know, begin to act crazy. I think, you know, there’s people that have every right to say what they want. If they want to smear someone, they can do it. It’s not appropriate. And I think I would stop short of characterizing the 20,000 people protesting, that all of them were doing that –
SCULLY: – those are just some of the stories.
NUNES: Of course. I think the left loves to play a couple of incidents here or there.
Here is my translation.
NUNES: Yeah, well I think that when you use totalitarian tactics.
Translation: OBAMA IS A TYRANT!!!!
NUNES: People, you know, begin to act crazy.
Translation: And people acting crazy has NOTHING to do with Conservative politicians and pundits calling Obama and his Democratic agenda totalitarian, socialist fascist or like Hitler.
NUNES: I think, you know, there’s people that have every right to say what they want.
Translation: And if they want to say things like the N bomb and homophobic slurs, who am I to do anything about it?
NUNES: If they want to smear someone, they can do it.
Translation: Smear people. Go crazy with smearing people. After all, these are totalitarian n!&&er f@&&0ts we are talking about here.
NUNES: It’s not appropriate.
Translation: Never mind that last thing I just said.
NUNES: And I think I would stop short of characterizing the 20,000 people protesting, that all of them were doing that –
Translation: Because what could possibly give these people the idea that Obama is a kenyan or a tyrant or a racist who hates white people and white culture?
NUNES: Of course. I think the left loves to play a couple of incidents here or there.
Translation: I have no business at all serving the public anymore. I can totally justify and excuse spitting on black people, calling people N!&&ers and F@&&0ts to their faces and using fear tactics to frighten people into acting on their most vile prejudices. I, Devin Nunes, am a backwards, tone deaf, gutless coward, and as a massive douche, I have no business holding a public office at all.
Last year I wrote an article titled Just call him a N!&&ER and get it over with, Republicans. We ALL KNOW that’s what you mean detailing the obviously racist hate displayed by Conservatives over the last year. In that diary I posted a note, which I feel is appropriate to repeat.
Diarist’s note: I apologize for the N-bomb. I am a white male and take offense to that term as well, but as we are all ADULTS (unlike the GOP and the RW base) we should be able to discuss all matters as adults, and that means discussing any and all matters within reason.
Just today, GOP House minority ( irony alert )leader John Boehner told his colleauges to “Behave like grown ups”. My message to Boehner: “TOO FUCKING LATE!”
In defending, justifying, formenting, encouraging and planning racist hatred the GOP and the Conservative movement proves itself for what it is, too chickenshit to call you a n!&&er to your face, but in agreement with others who do so. Until major Conservative leaders repeatedly repudiates unequivocally this sort of dispicable hatred this sort of speech and those who will not condemn it in the strongest terms possible should be censured by the majority of their congressional colleauges.
Because the plain truth is, these are not tea parties, these are hate rallies.
Of course, Representative Nunes can not condemn this sort of behavior or even distance himself from it. The few, “the 20,000 people protesting ” are
So, after this pathetic display of gutless pandering to the most hateful, racist and backwards participants in our civilized society, I would like to see two things happen.
#1. Video’s showing this exchange where Rep. Nunez justifies these racist acts played on TV in every district in the country.
#2. The entire Democratic Caucus demand an apology from Rep. Nunez for his statements, and if Rep. Nunez will not give it, to demand his censure.
This sort of hatred can not be tolerated, and neither should it be excused, let alone justified or condoned. Flat out racism is unexcusable, and if Rep. Nunez doesn’t understand that he should resign. If he refuses to resign or is too damned oblivious to even know what he has done by trying to justify in any way racism and hatred ( as I suspect ), then the Democratic party should censure him.
It is the year 2010. In this America, racism and hatred is unacceptable. Anyone who wants to participate in racist hate rallies or pander to them is unqualified to run for office. That is non-negotiable.
No racism. No hate. Period. One act is one too many.
