On The Bus has added code now to the DD stylesheet that will resize youtubes and other embeds down to width=”500″ height=”320″ if you post a video bigger than that… so that if you copy and paste embed code from Youtube to here it will not “break” the pages here…
At times, I can sympathize with the plight of hapless insects unfortunate enough to be successfully lured by the cobra lily (aka Darlingtonia californica). Attracted by the sweet nectar within, once the insect enters through a tiny opening, escape is virtually impossible. For more about this sinister, but “strange beautiful” plant, you can go here. Having seen them in person along the Oregon Coast, they are a captivating sight.
And speaking of the “All Along the Watchtower”, Hendrix’ cover version launched this song from relative obscurity to the nation’s consciousness.
As described in one of this writer’s earlier diaries, the song was originally composed by Bob Dylan in 1967. Here is a difficult to find pre-Hendrix performance by Dylan. Post-Hendrix, Dylan’s performances seemed to more closely approximate the more popular cover.
There are many other great cover versions out there, most resembling Hendrix’ interpretation, more or less. This version by Michael Hedges seems to chart its own course, indepedent of Dylan or Hendrix. For your consideration…

from “All Along the Watchtower”…
“No reason to get excited”
The thief he kindly spoke
“There are many here among us
Who feel that life is but a joke.”
“But you and I we’ve been through that
And this is not our fate
So let us not talk falsely now
The hour is getting late.”
