A needed voice in the House

I am endorsing Marcy Winograd in her race to represent California’s 36th District in Congress.  She is a true progressive who will stand up to the military industrial complex, the medical industrial complex, and other corporate interests in Washington.  Marcy is genuine in her concern for the people.

Bernie Madoff: F*** My Victims

Sometimes there is an event which puts every other event leading up to it into perspective.

Bernie Madoff summed it all up recently with 3 words.

“Fuck my victims.”

Breaking News : Helen Thomas resigns

Yahoo News, 14 minutes ago reported Helen Thomas resigned this morning over the flap from her I/P comments.  Many people called on Hearst to fire her.

The update which includes comments by Ari Fleischer and a statement by Robert Gibbs at this morning’s WH briefing demonstrates the inflamatory nature of this issue.

Just shows it can happen anywhere these days, I guess.

Issues in Depth:  Analysis: Obama and Democrats walk tightrope on oil spill

by Patricia Zengerle

June 7, 2010

Obama had been expected to spend the summer focused on rebuilding the U.S. economy and pushing through major items on his domestic policy agenda such as an overhaul of energy legislation and sweeping financial regulatory reform.

He had also set a busy international schedule, with a trip to Indonesia and Australia and a G20 summit both set for this month.

But the administration’s resources are being drained by the massive Gulf of Mexico oil spill, even as it grapples with issues like last Friday’s worrisome jobs report and looks toward elections in which the Democrats will struggle to keep their majorities in the House of Representatives and Senate.

How else can you explain it?

Massacres, disasters, high crimes, betrayals, faked pandemics, the disintegration of decency, the destruction of dignity, the religion of the root of all evil and the genocide of the poor by the rich.

Flashes of outrage replaced by short-term memory fail. Moments of insight chasing the rabbit down the memory hole.

They say in time “everything that is hidden will eventually be brought into the open, and every secret will be brought to light.”

But I say what more do you need? The truth isn’t “out there” it’s right in front of your face. Staring at you and daring you to do something about it.

It’s not the truth which sets you free, but what you do about it which frees you.

Wikileaks Source Arrested in Iraq, Hacker Snitched

A wikileaks source has been arrested in Iraq.

I would urge you to read the entire story link at Wired.com, because with anything military related, there is their version, and the spin, what really happened,  and the truth usually gets lost somewhere.  The suspect, Spc Bradley Manning, was arrested 12 days ago May 26, but it’s been kept under wraps.

In addition to the video “Collateral Murder,”  which was released world wide in April, showing the murder of the Reuters journalist and photographer, and the wounding of children in a nearby vehicle,  by American helicopter attack in Iraq in 2007, which was diaried here,

More about the life and deaths of Reuters’ Namir Noor Eldeen and Saeed Chmagh and their surviving families, here,

The wikileaks homepage is here:  http://wikileaks.org/

This 22 year old Army intelligence Spc also allegedly got ahold of 260,000 classified US diplomatic cables.  Which he boasted about to an “ex”  (ex? once a, always a ….. )  hacker named Adrian Lamo.

“Everywhere there’s a U.S. post, there’s a diplomatic scandal that will be revealed,” Manning wrote. “It’s open diplomacy. World-wide anarchy in CSV format. It’s Climategate with a global scope, and breathtaking depth. It’s beautiful, and horrifying.”

The Berlin Blockade and Airlift.

This diary is about the Berlin blockade and airlift.  From wiki:

Photobucket

The Berlin Blockade (24 June 1948 – 12 May 1949) was one of the first major international crises of the Cold War and the first such crisis that resulted in casualties. During the multinational occupation of post-World War II Germany, the Soviet Union blocked the Western Allies’ railway and road access to the sectors of Berlin under their control. Their aim was to force the western powers to allow the Soviet zone to start supplying Berlin with food and fuel, thereby giving the Soviets practical control over the entire city.

In response, the Western Allies organized the Berlin Airlift to carry supplies to the people in West Berlin. Great Britain’s Royal Air Force and the recently formed United States Air Force, flew over 200,000 flights over the time span of one year that provided 13,000 tons of daily necessities such as fuel and food to the people of Berlin [1]. By the spring of 1949, the effort was clearly succeeding, and by April the airlift was delivering more cargo than had previously flowed into the city by rail.

The success of the Berlin Airlift brought humiliation to the Russians who had refused to believe in its capability in making a difference. The blockade was lifted in May 1949 and resulted in the creation of two separate German States [1].The Federal Republic of Germany (West Germany) and the German Democratic Republic (East Germany) would now make up the land that was once known as Berlin [2]. In remembrance of the Berlin Airlift, three airports in the former western zones of the city served as the primary gateways to Germany for another fifty years.

Huh.  Establishing spheres of influence by breaking a siege.  Interesting!  Two-state solution followed by reconciliation.  Interesting!

Let’s line ’em up.
