He makes far too much sense. Christ. We’d have to get him a bulletproof suit and maybe something like a popemobile with bulletproof glass, if you wanted him to make it through his first term. And another secret Secret Service to keep an eye on the regular Secret Service palace guard.

  1. Rep. Anthony Weiner (D -NY) on the 9/11 Health and Compensation Act  HR 847

concerning the 9/11 First Responders in NYC

HR 847 full title was the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act of 2010.   Mr Zadroga was a police detective who died at the age of 34, in 2006.  The act would have re opened the original Victims Compensation Fund , which had a cutoff date of Dec 2003.

Weiner is yelling at Rep. Peter King (R NY – 03) who blamed the bill going down because the Democrats used a procedural rule to make it passable with a 2/3 majority vote requirement.  (Peter King did vote for the bill.  The Steve King neocon Republican from Iowa 05 did not. )

Republicans wanted to put in one of those no pay provisions about “illegal aliens.”

Zadroga was an American, but I guess in an Election year, anytime the Republican Party can play on Hispanic surnames or bash the unions and the working class, they seek that opportunity.

Hence Rep. Weiner is saying if you support the bill, VOTE YES, and don’t complain about the procedures.

Here is the vote on the bill, which failed, 255 to 159, it needed 276 to pass

Only 12 Republicans voted for it.

My Tea bag Republican McClintock voted against it, of course.  They’re real big on that rah rah war on terrorist stuff when they’re not cutting domestic funding.

I would also like to point out that if this country had passed a decent and real health CARE REFORM bill in the first place, so people didn’t go bankrupt and destitute when they became ill, this whole point would be moot.  And I blame the current Admin for deciding that the only way they could get this passed was to cut a secret deal in the beginning to deliberately make government subsidize private insurance companies and to leave out STILL anywhere from 20 to 40 million Americans when this thing is supposed to kick in.  I also blame the Republicans who fought against it while sucking up to the death panel contingent right wing think tanks, and trying to scare all the old people on Medicare.  Don’t write up POS phony  “alternatives” that would cover even fewer people, abolish state’s medicaid and cut Medicare, and try to call it “reform.”

We are still the only “civilized” allegedly first world, careening into third world status,  nation that spends twice as much as the others on health care per capita, and deliberately impoverishes people whom we do not let into the medical care system, so we can let banks profit off the debt.
