    They displace too many native or less competitive species. But assuming I’m looking at a herring gull there, it still breaks my heart. Not one of God’s creatures deserves a fate like that – unless they are on the board of BP or an executive level employee there. Throw in some MMS enablers, too.

    I’ve been surfing since 1965. The ocean is part of my life wherever it is. This is true sin and its name is Greed.

  1. …a few times during these past several weeks, I have felt myself encased in oil, like this bird and the others, the pelicans I’ve seen.  I can feel how it becomes impossible to fly, how movement becomes difficult, impossible – weighted with oil.

    It feels like a metaphor for what is happening to many in America, as jobs have dried up, income has evaporated, and the mobility which these provide is lessened.

    I identify with that white bird encased in oil — and it’s stoic acceptance and silence.

    So painful.
