Signs.

I’ve had better weeks.  But it’s about 4:40 on a Friday (Central Time) and I’m still breathing, so I’ll take what I can get.  To celebrate, after a fashion, I’m going to post this thing from my just-for-fun blog, LetsJapan.Wordpress.Com, something that I up and updated this morning.  It’s photo essay called . . .

                                                                          Signs

.

No, it’s not a bunch of pictures of “funny English” signs, although there are some pretty funny ones in the group.  And, yes, I do have something of a collection of those.  These are just cool, or quirky, or weird, or uniquely Japanese.

So pop open a beverage of choice, click on over to Signs, and enjoy.  I mean, after all, you’ve made it through another week.

Note:  if you want to know what the hell it is with me and Japan (and to a lesser extend India and China), there’s an “About” page over at my site/blog.  Feel free to click away.

I wonder what he’s afraid of, still ?

Apparently, BP runs a tight ship — perhaps it’s best to not cross them ?

Wild Wild Left Radio #77 Islamogeddon for Xenophobes!

Gottlieb and Diane G. are live and in color (or is that off color?) on WWL radio Friday night at 6pm Eastern Time to guide you through Current Events taken from a Wildly Left Prospective.

Hear the Unreported & Under Reported Headlines stories you should be paying attention to, from US Politics, to the farthest reaches of the Earth by the WWL coalition of subversion: undermining the PTB by speaking Truth to Power!!!!

Well Holy Moly and Guacamole! Racism is dead, according to Dr. Laura… other than all the poor whites being demonized by Black Activists who aren’t satisfied they got their Black President. The damned oversensitive ingrates think she should not be able to say “Nigger” 11 times in 7 minutes!

And that story is only the bait-in for a full Fest of the Parade of “White People Who Just Don’t GET It.” The 14th Amendment and Hispanic-hate. The Park 51 “non-mosque” protests.

The absurd idea that Iraq’s “withdrawal” is anything but a “New Dawn” for privatized armies, as we continue to occupy them.

But Holiest of Scary?

Iran gets nuclear fuel tomorrow!

The ramped up fearmongering is on the Rise, and “We need YOU to PREVENT forest fires Armageddon!!!”

Gottlieb and I shall try and break through the layers of disinformation and tap into the main vein of truthiness tonight! See you on the air!!!  Join us as we beat back the rhetoric of fear and loathing, on this the Eve of Mini-Woodstock!

Peace!!

Will Sen. Durbin meet with a military dad?

(Note: Sen Durbin had a small tumor removed from his stomach by minimally invasive surgery on August 12.  He’s reported to be recovering well, and is campaigning in Illinois, according to this report)

.     .

Cross-posted at FireDogLake and Dkos http://www.dailykos.com/story/…

I’ve had two face-to-face meetings with Sen. Dick Durbin in the past, arranged by the director of the senator’s downstate office in Springfield, Illinois.

Fifteen minutes were promised, but I actually got thirty minutes each time.

And, one of my progeny is serving in the Armed Forces, and has survived one deployment to Iraq and one to Afghanistan, both involving heavy combat where the batallion sustained many KIAs and severe WIAs.

I’m sick of constant, endless war which is based on specious reasoning.  The populace of the U. S. of A. is not paying the price and bearing the burden;  it’s our service members and their families who are paying the price and bearing the burden.

And, I want to talk directly with Sen. Durbin about it.

Ok, now what?

Everything is getting really blurry now and nothing makes any fuckin’ sense any more.

War is Peace now, poor is rich, the Gulf of Mexico is a never ending domestic supply of oil that will get us off the foreign oil habit, and everything else is upside fuckin’ down too. Or backwards or inside out, at least.

It’s anybody’s bet how long this planet is going to keep letting us do the shit we do before it shakes us off like a bad case of fleas, the ocean and the air are poison, it’s a good bet that some asshole somewhere is planning to start the next war, everybody’s broke, there are no jobs, my school wants to give equal time to the creationist bullshit and wants me to believe that it isn’t bullshit, we can’t even eat fish anymore much less feed multitudes with one, and you want me to pay for all your fuckups.

I’m not as dumb as you think, and you clueless so-called adults really piss me and my friends off, you know that?

Talk to me.

Iran to fire up its first nuclear power plant

By Robin Pomeroy

August 20, 2010

(Reuters) – Iran’s first nuclear power station will be loaded with fuel on Saturday, a showcase for Tehran’s claim that its atomic ambitions are purely peaceful.

Experts say firing up the $1-billion Bushehr plant will not take Iran any closer to building a nuclear bomb as Russia will supply the enriched uranium for the reactor and take away spent fuel rods which could be used to make weapons-grade plutonium.

Iran insists it does not want nuclear weapons anyway.

GOPers Revise History: Say Dems Have Tax Hike Ticking Time ‘Bomb’

Christina Bellantoni, TPMDC — August 19, 2010

Karl Rove’s Crossroads GPS this week detailed the “seven public policy initiatives” that will be most important for Congress next year. The group runs ads against Democrats across the country.

On the list at No. 1: “Stop the Obama tax hike time bomb scheduled to detonate on January 1, 2011.”

That’s not a typo. Rove’s group is claiming that Obama set the timer on that so-called “bomb.”

Talk about Revisionist History — of course consider the source — wasn’t it Rove, who claim to have the “Real Numbers” a few years back …

An Opened Mind VII

The open mind never acts: when we have done our utmost to arrive at a reasonable conclusion, we still – must close our minds for the moment with a snap, and act dogmatically on our conclusions.

Solid Fire

When it burns

It is not ours

We only

borrow it

thinking that we

control it

we have killed

to possess it

’til it is

our master

The fire consumes

clear, sterile

and then waits

for  life anew

It will have

the last word

The fire was here

long before

life began

We only live

on its skin

serve your country, see the world, shoot college students Pictures, Images and Photos

Have you ever heard a song that so completely captures an earlier moment in your life that hearing it again immediately transports you back to that time?  Sometimes a powerful catalyzing event seizes the collective attention of a nation, creating a sudden vacuum, waiting only to be filled by a universal means of expression that can clearly and articulately capture those powerful thoughts and emotions, duly recording the essence of a nation’s collective conscience in a manner understandable to the rest of the world, and perhaps more importantly, to posterity.

Some, perhaps many of us were around in 1970 to witness such an event, one that rocked a nation already reeling from escalating racial tensions and an ever widening divide between those who staunchly supported and those who opposed the United States’ unprovoked aggression and ongoing occupation of Southeast Asia.
