I Want

Thought for the Day

I found this quote over at Tumblr, “reblogged” by Kai at “Knowing Coves” (formerly zuky –here’s a link but not sure it works).

It’s from Ursula K. LeGuin:

What about success?

Success is somebody else’s failure. Success is the American Dream we can keep dreaming because most people in most places, including thirty million of ourselves, live wide awake in the terrible reality of poverty. No, I do not wish you success. I don’t even want to talk about it. I want to talk about failure.

Because you are human beings you are going to meet failure. You are going to meet disappointment, injustice, betrayal, and irreparable loss. You will find you’re weak where you thought yourself strong. You’ll work for possessions and then find they possess you. You will find yourself – as I know you already have – in dark places, alone, and afraid.

I hope you live without the need to dominate, and without the need to be dominated. I hope you are never victims, but I hope you have no power over other people. And when you fail, and are defeated, and in pain, and in the dark, then I hope you will remember that darkness is your country, where you live, where no wars are fought and no wars are won, but where the future is. Our roots are in the dark; the earth is our country. Why did we look up for blessing – instead of around, and down? What hope we have lies there. Not in the sky full of orbiting spy-eyes and weaponry, but in the earth we have looked down upon. Not from above, but from below. Not in the light that blinds, but in the dark that nourishes, where human beings grow human souls.

An Opened Mind XV

People only see what they are prepared to see.

— Ralph Waldo Emerson

4 by 4

           Four Freedoms

    Franklin proclaimed them

      to us in 1941

    Norman drew them

      for us in 1943

    We have lived our lives

      in search of them

    They are our most deeply

      held convictions

    Four are the freedoms

    and the freedoms are for

    all humans everywhere

    They are the goal

    Freedom of Speech

      Free to talk
        and hear
      Free to write
        and read
      Free to teach
        and learn
      Free to create
        and experience

    Freedom to Worship

      whomever or no one
        whatever or nothing
      whenever or never
        wherever or nowhere
      however or not at all
why ever or for no reason
      the religion, philosophy, or ethos
the faith or belief we choose

    Freedom from Fear

      of oppression and brutality
        by tyrants or despots
        by bullies or demagogues
      of killing and slaughter
        because of nationality or religion
        because of race or culture
      of disease and corruption
        of bodies or minds
        of institutions or leaders
      of rape and torture
        of people or nature
        of wallets or souls

    Freedom from Want

      of food
        and drink
      of lodging
        and warmth
      of work
        and self-worth
      of respect
        and value

    These are our values

      or so I was taught

    So what the fuck

      is happening to us now

    I

      am
        so
          ashamed

    We

      are
        fucking
          pissed

    It is

      time for
        them
          to go

    Help me

      take back
        this land
          from them

Bloggers Behaving Badly: Rayne at FireDogLake.com

Over at FireDogLake.com, you’d better not post anything too critical of Israel.  Moderator and abuser of power Rayne will probably step in to disrupt the thread, issue threats, and order people to cease asking questions she doesn’t like.

Rayne’s latest round of abuse began when truthexcavator posted an entry on what turned out to be a five-year-old news article about an israeli soldier acquitted of murdering a 13-year-old Palestinian by filling her body with enough bullets to drop a charging rhinoceros.  Truth made the horrendous mistake of comparing what Israel is doing to palestinians to what the Nazis did to Jews during the Holocaust.

I was shocked when I heard about this story, but I am less shock of the verdict by the Israeli Army. I’m passed the point of getting mad at Israel. I don’t even think of it as a country anymore. I wish it was a country because the Jewish people deserve better. But it’s not a country, just as Nazi Germany wasn’t a country.

Obama on Iraq, live with transcript

Not a Political Essay

I don’t know if I’ll listen to Obama’s speech on Iraq tonight (8PM EST).  Got one of those “breaking news” emails from WaPo giving an excerpt of the speech:

“Ending this war is not only in Iraq’s interest – it is in our own,” the president will say, according to prepared remarks. “The United States has paid a huge price to put the future of Iraq in the hands of its people. We have sent our young men and women to make enormous sacrifices in Iraq, and spent vast resources abroad at a time of tight budgets at home. We have persevered because of a belief we share with the Iraqi people – a belief that out of the ashes of war, a new beginning could be born in this cradle of civilization.”

I used to be naive.  I used to believe the truth would triumph over both lies and denials.

I still believe this.  I just see it in a way different time frame, lol.

The truth eventually does come out.  Just takes longer in direct proportion to the power involved in keeping the truth … controlled.

We had a brief opportunity after the defeat of George W. Bush to face that truth in such a way that we wouldn’t go through a much longer period of time processing it in distorted dribs and drabs.  We were unable to grasp that opportunity, and I believe now we are witnessing why that has happened.

There is no fault here as far as I’m concerned.  My view at this time is not political but just human.

Democrats: All you have to do is FIGHT

Simulposted at Daily Kos

Photobucket

The American people are disgusted by their government.

They are disgusted by The Republicans and they are disgusted by the Democrats.

But mostly they are disgusted at watching everything they are working SO hard for …just slip away… as the people who are supposed to protect them and help them DO NOTHING.

Yes the Republicans are to blame.

They have essentially shut down the government ….again. They are selfish, slimy despicable, mean and incredibly destructive. They are cowardly, lying bullies. The American people hate them.

And there is only one thing the American People hate more than cowardly lying bullies.

People who lie down and roll over to cowardly lying bullies and let them take their lunch money.

WITHOUT EVEN A FIGHT.

If you had a choice between either voting for cowardly lying bullies or voting for someone who lets a cowardly lying bully beat them up every goddam day and never fight back…..who would you vote for?

That is the choice the American voter faces in November.

That is the ONLY reason any swing election will be close this year.

The Republicans have a tiny base, a horrible record, no money, no ideas, no solutions….nothing. And the voters KNOW this. Yet they have no real choice. Vote for the bully, or vote for the victim of the bully who gets rolled every frikking time. When they aren’t busy running from the fight or hiding under their desks, that is.

Their is only one thing the Democrats have to do to change that, to BREAK the hold of the bully and get our government working for the American People again.

FIGHT BACK.

Call them out for what they are and stand up to the cowardly lying bullies. And start fighting for the American People. Fighting for the little guys.

Like they USED TO.

Note: One of the reasons I took a nice long break was because I felt I had pretty much said everything lol. So instead of taking the time to write a new essay saying What I Already Said…..

If You Don’t Want Republicans In Power, Don’t Act Like Republicans

Fri Dec 18, 2009

“If you pressure or criticize the Democrats, the terrorists Republicans will win.”

“You don’t want The Republicans to win, do you?”

The only reason The Republicans will win is if the Dems don’t differentiate themselves from The Republicans.

How do they differentiate themselves from The Republicans?

By giving The People…the base…what they want.

By proving they can govern and legislate FOR THE PEOPLE…not for the System, not for the Corporations, not for the MIC, not for The Bankers…

Not for the Status Quo.

The Status Quo is BROKEN.
