The Bonfire of the Insanities

( – promoted by buhdydharma )

Bobby Kennedy . . .

Whenever we tear at the fabric of life which another man has painfully and clumsily woven for himself and his children.  Whenever we do this, the whole nation is degraded.  Too often, we honor swagger and bluster and the wielders of force, too often, we excuse those who are willing to build their own lives on the shattered dreams of others.

The degradation is far worse now than it was in the last year of Bobby Kennedy’s life.  Those who build their lives and careers on the shattered dreams of others control everything–the corporations, the banks, the media, the House, the Senate, the Supreme Court, and that presidency Obama has turned into a dream shattering ride into a firestorm.

Welcome to Dresden.

Welcome to the slaughterhouse of shattered dreams.

Where the only thing the votes of We the People determine is whether we burn or bleed to death.

This firestorm began like firestorms always begin.  It was ignited by corruption, it was stoked by greed, it was fueled into a nationwide conflagration by propaganda and deceit.  The Bonfire of the Insanities is burning coast to coast, it’s raging at a fever pitch, it’s going to keep raging because the fire trucks are all stuck in that ditch Obama keeps talking about.  He hasn’t pushed any of them out and he’s not going to push any of them out.  His bipartisan bicycle with the flat tires and that hopey changey horn on the handlebars is he only thing he’s pushed out of that ditch.  It’s the only thing he’ll ever push out of that ditch.

Corruption has ignited this inferno, deceit has shifted the blame, there is more treachery ahead of us and malice behind it.  Those who speak to us from that White House that shames us, those who speak to us from that Congress that is no longer ours, those who keep pumping gasoline on the flames tell us we have to tighten our austerity belts while we burn, we have to hand Wall street a trillion dollar tourniquet while we bleed to death, we have to pick ourselves up by our scorched bootstraps.

We must do that, they tell us.  We must do it now and keep doing it.  If we don’t, the Four Horsemen of Socialism/Communism/Atheism and their godless gay legions are going to saddle up, ride into this paradise of equality and prosperity with their extremist guns blazing, enslave all the Christians, turn every WalMart into a mosque, blot out the sun with their pot smoke, toss the sacred two-party system into the sea, and ruin everything for everybody.

Fascism is on the march again, wrapped in the stars and stripes and carrying a cross this time. The rule of law is burning, equality is burning, the truth itself is burning, everything is burning in that Bonfire of the Insanities . . .

  1. Rusty, this is sooo good!  I know you really worked on this one very hard.  I’m impressed with your new found abilities — went there to view, but couldn’t remember my password (on the spot) to recommend (will seek it out tomorrow, hopefully).  Who was your teacher?  Whatever!

Very well done and so poignantly true!

  2. There was a hole in this place when you stopped posting almost as large as the hole needed to bury Obama’s promises of “change”.

Now stop slackin’ and get busy! There are a few here that need to see what REAL diaries/essays look like.

John, Martin and Bobby. Florida 2000, Ohio 2004. They’ve taken our country’s honor. Traded our blood for oil. Taken our taxes, savings and houses.

The one thing they can’t take is our souls. So they break them and burn them as best they can.

The big challenge facing the boomers may be if we’re willing to lay down our lives for the coming generations. I don’t know anymore. I can’t even feel. There’s a Katrina of economic and social injustice raging and all we can do is howl back at the storm. All to no avail.

  3. It is 1939 and this is Nazi Germany.  Here at the Apocalpse Ranch we do have the four horses yet we lack four horsemen.  Hence the doom and gloom prophecy dates come and go.  “We” were supposed to bomb Iran, have this massive bird/swine/unicorn flu, riots in the streets by homeless people or get tazered for picking your own nose in a non-nosepicking area.

I see it as a bi-partisan effort, this Illuminati Plan to Destroy America.  Clinton’s bank de-regulation and NAFTA to Bush’s North American Union then peace prize Obama’s predator drone army.  All of em suck, both of em suck.  Neither admits al-CIA-duh is fictional and “we” won’t find Elvis bin Laden or admit Larry Silverstein had an asbestos abatement problem.

reminds me of how the hippies were gonna “corrupt your mind, corrode your bodies and turn your little babies into monkeys…”

The Left is always the demon for the Exploitation Capitalists.

  4. here. your writing is suburb, better then ever. Not only broken dreams but broken spirits, are what ‘the world as we find it’ is creating for we the people. Strange that people are too frightened to reject the narrative that is presented when it starkly defies the reality let alone the dream. Those who point out and fight this nightmare are promptly drawn and quartered and ostracized as infidels and traitors. The fire must be kept burning and we chop and carry the wood.

  5. Rusty1776 now with video chops? whoosh, Im goners!

Ill be back in a few after I finish viewing/reading/digesting.

    Good to see you Rusty.

  6. essay and video, Rusty. Powerful stuff. As you may or may not know, I tinker with such things also, I’ve got a couple in mind, what did you put it together with, Adobe Flash?

Peace, brother and good to see you back.

  7. I’m about two-thirds of the way through another of those books I should have read many years ago, but given the circumstances of the present day, it means something entirely different now than it would have three decades ago.

For anyone who hasn’t read Sinclair Lewis’ “It Can’t Happen Here”, it should be required reading for everyone. In a nutshell, he graphically describes a scenario in which the United States turns into a Nazi dictatorship. And this was written in 1936, two years before Adolf Hitler graced the cover of Time Magazine as their “Man of the Year” and more than five years before the United States and Germany were to be at war with each other.

The story he wrote 74 years ago describes circumstances on every page that sound eerily familiar. One of the hundreds of examples describes a time during the Great War (World War II hadn’t begun yet) when people in the United States re-named sauerkraut, calling it freedom kraut.  And that is one of the most benign examples.

Lewis’ wife, Dorothy Thompson, was the author of the following quote:

When liberty is taken away by force it can be restored by force. When it is relinquished voluntarily by default it can never be recovered. — Dorothy Thompson

…and Lewis was the source of the quote alluded to in the last paragraph of this essay…
