At this point in his presidency I think it is fair to say that Obama is already in the conversation as best president since Abraham Lincoln. His only real competition is FDR and LBJ, and I think it’s a safe bet that Obama will neither beat the Nazis nor start an unwinnable war in Vietnam. In other words, he’s in a battle with FDR to be the best president since the Civil War.

From all appearances, it looks like the deal was that Obama would use all of his influence to continue existing tax cuts, further underfund social security (allowing the less than $106,800/year crowd to borrow from themselves), and significantly reduce estate taxes, opening the door to multi-generational aristocratic classes, the very element that those originally crossing the Atlantic came here to avoid.
By caving to the rich and powerful, and selling out everyone else, Obama would be allowed to go down in history as the president whose signature appears on the first comprehensive health care reform bill (never mind that it is a huge giveaway to the health scare cartel), the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”, and the renewal of the START treaty.
Can anyone identify any legislation that Obama pushed that would have even mildly upset the rich and powerful?
His only “victories” seem to be those that were either revenue-neutral or represented an additional windfall for the “haves and have mores”, George W. Bush’s and now Barack Obama’s base.
