Pollution

Crossposted from The Stars Hollow Gazette

My activist brother often tells me that the reason we have to constantly re-fight the battles of the past is that we didn’t crush these bone head brain dead assholes the way we should have in the first place.

I’m inclined to agree.

Remember Cuyahoga?

3 Dems join GOP fight to block EPA climate rules

WASHINGTON — Three Democrats are joining a Republican effort in the House to block the Environmental Protection Agency from reducing the gases blamed for global warming.

Rep. Nick Rahall of West Virginia, Rep. Collin Peterson of Minnesota, and Rep. Dan Boren of Oklahoma will sponsor a bill supported by 42 Senate and seven House Republicans that would bar the EPA from using federal law to control greenhouse gases from power plants, refineries and other industrial facilities.

The measure is the latest to be introduced in the Republican-controlled House, where at least a half-dozen bills target the EPA and its efforts to control air and water pollution.

Time was when an American about to go abroad would be warned by his friends or the guidebooks not to drink the water. But times have changed and now a foreigner coming to this country might be offered the following advice.

If you visit American city,

You will find it very pretty.

Just two things of which you must beware:

Don’t drink the water and don’t breathe the air.

Pollution, pollution,

They got smog and sewage and mud.

Turn on your tap and get hot and cold running crud.

See the halibuts and the sturgeons

Being wiped out by detergents.

Fish gotta swim and birds gotta fly,

But they don’t last long if they try.

Pollution, pollution,

You can use the latest toothpaste,

And then rinse your mouth with industrial waste.

Just go out for a breath of air,

And you’ll be ready for Medicare.

The city streets are really quite a thrill.

If the hoods don’t get you, the monoxide will.

Pollution, pollution,

Wear a gas mask and a veil.

Then you can breathe, long as you don’t inhale.

Lots of things there that you can drink,

But stay away from the kitchen sink.

The breakfast garbage that you throw in to the Bay,

They drink at lunch in San Jose.

So go to the city, see the crazy people there.

Like lambs to the slaughter,

They’re drinking the water

And breathing the air.

  1. with the air they breathe, the toxicity of the water they drink (or whether they have access to clean water), but some of the rest of us are.

It’s really a horrific moment in the history of homo sapiens that it will take nothing short of another Dust Bowl to prod our political leaders to examine the consequences of their actions.

literally–that’s what we are facing. It’s as if “the people” had been given some strange drug that paralyzes all their faculties and they just sit there ready to be devoured by the predators that hunt them.

The predators don’t care–they are made crazy by a radical loss of their humanity. Both predators and stalked are insane. We need to keep out of their way and create our own places.
