Daily Kos: The sixth graders speak!

here:

I grew up watching action movies starring the big guys.  Stallone, Arnold and Bruce.  It was always the sign of a serious bad ass when they could kill the bad guy while cracking some witty remark.  But that’s the movies, right.  Nobody is that much of an actual bad ass in real life.  Right?

Wrong.  President Barack Obama is that much of a bad ass that he can kill the world’s most wanted villian and put a cocky trust fund billionaire in his place at the same time.

Socialization in America, take a bow!  You made the top of the wreck list with the little shaver’s pre-adolescent hero worship.  Can’t you sense the curly ones sprouting?  That’s some milk-fed T talking some Hollywood trash and letting Gawd sort it out, baby.

Keep up the excellent work, liberals.  It’s been fun watching you out-flank the wingnuts on targeted assassination.  You’re really living up to the dream.

His Code Name Was Geronimo

They stole his name, Geronimo, a bad thing to do.  Geronimo, the legendary warrior and leader of the Chiricahua Apache tribe, whose name was cavalierly besmirched  and used as the code name for Osama bin Laden in the operation that was meant to, and did, exterminate him.

I suppose in a way it is ironically fitting in this land whose Original Sin was the genocide of millions of Native Americans, the First Americans, over decades of murders loosely justified by the arrogant belief of Anglo-Saxon Manifest Destiny.

Geronimo’s band was the last holdout against the United States military in present-day Arizona and New Mexico.

It’s thought that his skull and bones were stolen by the Yale society of the same name. after his death..

They called him Geronimo, but they killed him more like Crazy Horse.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C…

I hope to follow with a poem.  I was glad to see when searching for his history that the tribe is demanding an apology from Barack Obama.

(forgive me; I will never learn hyperlinks here.)

My Little Town 20110504: Francis Worthen

Those of you that read this regular series know that I am from Hackett, Arkansas, just a mile of so from the Oklahoma border, and just about 10 miles south of the Arkansas River.  It was a redneck sort of place, and just zoom onto my previous posts to understand a bit about it.

I never write about living people except with their express permission, but since these folks are long gone, they are fair game.  They were actually very nice folks, but had some huge quirks, as most folks in my little town did.

Francis Worthen is one of those people.  I did not know her as well as I did many of the others in town, but well enough to write about her.  My memories of her are sort of skewed, as you will see as you read the piece.
