McConville son says Gerry Adams ‘threatened backlash’

A son of murder victim Jean McConville has said he felt Sinn Féin leader Gerry Adams had threatened him with a “backlash” if he released the names of those he believed killed her.

Mr Adams was released without charge after being questioned for four days about the 1972 killing.

He claimed there was a “sustained, malicious, untruthful campaign” against him.

Libya confirms Ahmed Maiteeq as new prime minister

The head of Libya’s parliament has confirmed businessman Ahmed Maiteeq as the country’s new prime minister, according to a decree signed by him on Monday, one day after a deputy speaker had declared Maiteeq’s election invalid.

The divisions in the assembly highlight growing political turmoil in Libya, where the government and parliament are unable to assert their authority in a country awash with arms and militias from the 2011 ouster of Muammar Gaddafi.

Parliament elected Maiteeq on Sunday after chaotic voting in parliament but First Deputy Speaker Ezzedin al-Awami initially said the businessman had failed to obtain the necessary quorum.

Keystone pipeline issue looms as Senate takes up energy bill

The impassioned debate over the Keystone XL pipeline could reach a tipping point this week on Capitol Hill, with this likely the last chance for the issue to be considered legislatively until after the November midterm elections. The outcome could complicate matters for the Obama administration, which is still reviewing whether to allow permits for sections of the pipeline.

The Senate is set to begin debate on a modest energy bill that has enough bipartisan support to pass on its own merits, but supporters of the pipeline, which is intended to transport oil from western Canada to the U.S. Gulf Coast, are trying to leverage the bill to force votes on Keystone. The issue has prompted a multimillion-dollar lobbying campaign on both sides; hardly a half-hour goes by on cable news outlets without one side or the other pushing its position on the matter.

The fire was initially reported just before 1 a.m as flames from a large outdoor palette fire roared next door to the building that housed  the shelter.

More than 20 people were sleeping inside when flames broke out. They were able to escape, but lost what little they had.

New studies show that young blood reverses effects of aging when put into older mice

The rodent fountain of youth may not be filled with water, but with blood. A trio of new studies has discovered that the blood of young mice appears to reverse some of the effects of aging when put into the circulatory systems of elderly mice.

After combining the blood circulations of two mice by conjoining them – one old, the other young – researchers found dramatic improvements in the older mouse’s muscle and brain. After four weeks, stem cells in both those areas got a boost of activity and were better able to produce neurons and muscle tissue.

New, Cheap, Environmentally-Friendly Solar Cell Created in Energy Breakthrough

There’s a new, environmentally friendly solar cell that uses tin instead of lead perovskite in order to harvest light. The low-cost solar cell could potentially be a breakthrough for solar energy.

The solar cell in question actually uses a structure called a perovskite; yet instead of lead, it employs tin for its light-absorbing material. Most other cells use lead, which achieves about a 15 percent efficiency; the new tin cell should be able to match and possibly even surpass that.

The Daily Wiki

Egocentrism is characterized by preoccupation with one’s own internal world. Egocentrics regard themselves and their own opinions or interests as being the most important or valid. To them, self-relevant information is seen to be more important in shaping one’s judgments than are thoughts about others and other-relevant information.[1] Egocentric people are unable to fully understand or to cope with other people’s opinions and the fact that reality can be different from what they are ready to accept. Egocentrism is not the same as narcissism.
