Welcome to The Breakfast Club! We’re a disorganized group of rebel lefties who hang out and chat if and when we’re not too hungover we’ve been bailed out we’re not too exhausted from last night’s (CENSORED) the caffeine kicks in. Join us every weekday morning at 9am (ET) and weekend morning at 10:30am (ET) to talk about current news and our boring lives and to make fun of LaEscapee! If we are ever running late, it’s PhilJD’s fault.

Breakfast Tunes
In case no one has noticed, I am still not ready to make nice.
Sorry there was no Breakfast Club this AM. Everyone was preoccupied with other stuff called Real Life. Anyway, with a bit of luck, TBC will be here tomorrow at its usual time, 9 AM EDT.
I’ll be keeping track of the 2014 World Cup events that are going on in Brazil. They are still in the qualifying rounds with a few teams already eliminated and advancing to the Round of 16 which starts Saturday, June 28.
Already eliminated are the reigning cup holder Spain, Australia, Cameroon, England and Bosnia-Herzegovina.
Advancing teams are Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rico, and the Netherlands.
Today’s games, with the first one already done, are:
12 Noon Belgium 1 – Russia 0
3 PM Algeria – South Korea
6 PM USA – Portugal
Guess which game every TV in every sports bar will be tuned to?
In Formula 1, the Austrian Grand Prix was run this morning. This is the first time in 10 years that Austria has hosted the race. It took place just outside the scenic city of Spielberg on a new ring built by the Austrian company and F-1 team sponsor. Red Bull.
Even though Williams drivers Valtteri Bottas and Felipe Massa started on the front row in the one and two positions, the placed 3rd and 4th at the end behind Mercedes drives Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton. Rosberg extended his championship lead by 29 points over his teammate Hamilton.
Some of the highlights:
Quadruple Formula One world champion Sebastian Vettel dropped out of the race at lap 35 with engine troubles once again. There were only three retirements in today’s race as compared to 12 who didn’t finish in the Canadian race.
The race will be repeated this afternoon on NBC Sports network.
In golf, just because, American Michelle Wie is tied for the lead heading into the final round of the United States Women’s Open. In Connecticut, Ryan Moore has the lead with 4-under 66 to take a one-stroke lead over Aaron Baddeley in the Travelers Championship being held in Cromwell.
And over in merry old England, Wimbledon starts tomorrow.
