You may not know this, but the Brussels Metro Area is a full third of Belgium and has 1.8 Million inhabitants. The other two regions are divided by language, the French speaking Walloons and the Dutch speaking Flemish. Brussels is commonly thought to be (only) the 21st most friendly city in Europe for ex-pats and immigrants. It hosts a good part of the European Union bureaucracy.
Currently it’s on it’s third day of lockdown based on the “presence” of Daesh cells involved in the planning of the November 13th terrorist attacks in Paris.
Citizens are urged not to congregate in markets and other public venues and schools, shopping malls and public transit are closed. They are encouraged not to use the Internet and social media to converse about topics like terrorism, the Middle East, and Islam (which means ‘peace through submission to the will of God’ in Arabic by the way). The response has been a pointed barrage of cute Kitty pics.
The Washington D.C. Metro Area has about 6 Million people which is larger numerically but much smaller percentage-wise. I wonder how long they would tolerate this.
Oh, cute Kitty pics. I give you Mog–
