Postponed for a day because of Matthew this may be Red Sox Nation’s last chance this season to worship at the shrine of The Great God Citgo.
Since that’s the case I’ll tell you a Fenway story.
So last year I was following L’Hermione up the East Coast and the stop was Boston. Now I never drive in Boston if I can avoid it so I drove up to Worcester and hopped on the Green Line. It was rather fuller than I expected because it was Sox/Yankees and on the way in there were a lot of people having a very good time.
Not so much on the way back after a loss. I mean it’s not like people were angry, they were just kind of subdued. We came to one stop and the train stayed there for quite a while, then the PA crackled- “This is your Conductor speaking. It seems we have a passanger who will not stand clear of the train so we can proceed. We have called the Police and they should be here in a moment.”
And sure enough they were. I could see everything because it was just the next car away and I have the blurry over refected pictures to prove it. I can imagine the conversation-
“Sir, you’re holding up the train.”
“Holding up the train? I’m not holding the train up, the train is holding me up!”
I guess you had to be there.
Friday’s Game
Bottom 2nd- Single. Single. RBI Single, Runners at Corners. Indians 1 – 0. 3 RBI HR. Indians 4 – 0.
Bottom 4th- Single. Walk. Fielder’s Choice. RBI Single. Indians 5 – 0.
Bottom 6th- Leadoff Single. Fielder’s Choice and Error, Runners at Corners. RBI Sacrifice. Indians 6 – 0 Final.
Indians lead Series 2 – 0
Today the Red Sox (93 – 71) must win or they’re out. The Indians (97 – 67) dominated Friday’s game so things look bleak indeed for the Red Sox.
The starters are unchanged after the rain. The Red Sox are sending Clay Buchholz (R, 8 – 10, 4.78 ERA) to the hill, the Indians Josh Tomlin (R, 13 – 9, 4.40 ERA). Neither are overwhelming.
The ray of sunshine for the Red Sox is their Bullpen which is better than the Indians’ and has had 2 full days of rest. Should it go to a Game 4 you might think the Sox have an edge because the Indian’s Trevor Bauer was just terrible in Game 1, but on the other hand the Sox will be starting Eduardo Rodriguez who’s not much. Rick Porcello has indicated he’s willing to pitch in relief today for the Sox should it come to that and he’s the best they got.
