I Witnessed History, Video

Haven’t been able to sleep, certainly last tonight. Been functionally unable to talk about this election for the last week to ten days. I could not look at those I know who voted for hope today without tearing up.  I have witnessed a lot of history in 64 years, written about our shared history, written about our candidate and yet this time I can not find the words. It’s not hero worship or some kind of weird transference caused by a decided lack of religion on my part, but none the less to be so deeply moved it is almost impossible to express. I believe this is true for many of us, perhaps all of us. Follow me below the fold and I will try to share some of those feelings with you.

This has been an extraordinary day, voted this morning 49th in our precinct.  I met Republicans in line who were voting for Obama, it was no choice for them. They were voting for the man who obviously loves this country and believes we can turn this mess around.  I cried in the hall with my supervisor about how incredible and wonderful and a miracle neither of us ever thought we would see, certainly not in my lifetime. My little Republican airhead, voted for Obama and voted early, no doubts for her. I guess sitting across from me the last few years has rubbed off on her, at least this time she understands a whole lot better which politicians actually care about the quality of her life.

Want to tell you about two other people, the first is a newly wed and the mother of a brand new daughter. She and her husband never thought about voting, I told her they MUST for their child, for her future. They read about the candidates, read Obama’s books and in the end they voted for him. But they did one better, they named their daughter Madelyn for his grandmother. The second person told me tonight all of them lie, her excuse for siding with her parents for McCain. I thought she had voted already but she was sitting it out because she didn’t trust either one. I got her on the tubes, on Factcheck and she read and read and read. At 6:45 she called her husband, told him to grab the kids and meet her at the HS, their polling place, they were voting and for Obama. Who knew just an hour or so before the polls closed?

This has been a long time coming, sometimes it feels like with the help of  our better angels  we willed Barack Obama into our lives.

So enjoy … Transcendent Message Transformative Candidate.

there are two places in the embed code where you find the word “always”. Change it to “never” in both places and it will work.
