Holiday Food Porn

(noon. – promoted by ek hornbeck)

Its hot. Its steamy. It makes you tremble in anticipation.  It makes you covet thy neighbor’s portion even while sated on your own.

Food, Glorious Food!

(Yeah, I’m a Mom, I now picture the vulture scene from Ice Age 3, not Oliver Twist when this song plays in my head!)

Here is a space to share your innermost oral-fixation secrets, lay bare your culinary souls.

LOL!

C’mon you know what I want. Right here. In the Kitchen. I’m so naughty….

I want every recipe you can give me!!!!!

From Turkey to Christmas Cookies!  Of course, it doesn’t have to be Holiday food, any favorite recipe you want to share.

I’m going to keep this up as a running Open Thread on WWL, but I thought I’d fish my other community here for some yummy ideas!

Melt 4 squares of unsweetened chocolate with 1/2 cup vegetable oil.  This can be done in a mixing bowl in the microwave to save on cleanup.

Once that has cooled a bit, add 2 cups of sugar and beat well.  Mix in 4 eggs, one at a time, mixing until incorporated.  Add 2 tsp. vanilla.

Stir in 2 c. flour, 2 tsp. baking powder and 1/2 tsp. salt.

Cover dough and refrigerate for several hours, or overnight.

The next day, form cookies into small balls (teaspoon size or so) and roll in powdered sugar.  I use about 1 c. powdered sugar, and pour it into a shallow bowl.  Refrigerate dough between batches, so it stays firm.

Bake on GREASED cookie sheets at 350 for 10-12 minutes, or until no imprint remains when touched.

The powdered sugar spreads on these delicious brownie-like cookies when they spread, looking for all the world like lines…. and they are even more addictive!

  1. But my favorite method for meat and fish is the “sear/roast” method where you take a piece of chicken/steak/pork/salmon and sear it on high heat in a good cast iron or stainless steel pan and then cook it at high heat (approximately 450 ) for a few minutes. While it rests I make a simple pan sauce to drop on it.

I am currently obsessed by scallops.

  2. Can I have a shout out for Oysters Rockefeller?  Oh goddess in heaven, this is old school but it is a complete killer. Followed with Oregon Pinot Gris.  Heaven on earth.  And there cannot, I say cannot be enough.  Ever.

I confess to being a complete pig.  And now, I have to go to the gym.  Time for some preventive maintenance.

I would rather smoke than eat.  Italians don’t care about turkey, they have home made ravioli and cheese soup.  I’m getting pretty good and the raviolis, but my cheese soup still needs help.
