Barack Obama’s transition team has announced house meetings for the coming weekend, Dec. 13 & 14, to discuss policies and give our ideas. This seems important. This is an opportunity for us. I urge Dharmaniacs to attend. In addition to buhdy’s petition, this seems another avenue to try.
The email from David Plouffe, Obama’s campaign and transition team manager, arrived just as I had reached the low point of despair over Barack’s appointments. How can one be optimistic for a foreign policy team of Robert Gates, James Jones, Hillary Clinton, etc.?
But the announcement of the meetings raised me up and encouraged me once again to make the effort. The meetings are nationwide. There are at least 100 meetings in the SF Bay Area. I’ve signed up for three, hoping that I might have some influence, open some eyes, perhaps have my opinions changed as well. It will be a mighty task to keep Barack’s back from the Faustian-Corporate pressures which have ruled the “slumberland of DC” for lo these several decades.

I have chosen 3 meetings to attend. One is described:
This event will be especially reaching out to Green Builders, EcoVillage activists, cohousing neighbors, community organizers, Group Process Facilitators, mediators, matchmakers, spiritual activists, Bay Area Kossacks from the Daily Kos website, and all the unsung heroes that keep us all connected and engaged.
Another is said to feature a DVD on Barack’s economic plans with discussion to follow; a third mentions the dismay over his appointments so far and discussion.

I’ve been trying to keep my hopes up, even with the less than ideal appointments. I just keep saying to myself that O will have the final say.
You sure are lucky to have so many meetups in your area to attend. I need to check again, but last I knew there weren’t any real close, and my house just isn’t prepared to invite people over.
this is the coolest thing i’ve heard yet to come from the Obama team. This really sounds great, like they actually want and care about the opinions of the average citizen & are willing to listen.

I hoped the Obama Team would do with all of the community activism they have created.
And, for another look at how that activism is being used, there’s this as reported by Al Giordano at The Field.
Seems that people who were involved in the Obama campaign in Madison and Chicago are organizing to stop home foreclosures in their area. This is not being organized by the Obama Team, its coming from the people who want to continue to work for change in their communities. Their first step has been to develop a map of the potential foreclosures in their area.
I received it, too, and I’m signed up.
This to me is very positive — engaging the American people! Now, will it be effective? Do we know? I think we have to keep an “open” mind with respect to it all for right now.
There’s a meeting next Sunday in my neighborhood — I’m pretty sure I can make it. I’m not seeing a specific topic for the meeting so I’m not sure what to expect.
I am the horseman, the worst case scenario guy but I am going to stand down here even in light of my mAssachusetts experience with “progressive” candidate Deval Patrick.
Do me a favor though and research a something called the Delphi technique.
