As a whole, it’s certainly not a perfect/progressive platform (tax cuts! tax cuts! rah! rah! rah!), of course, but my, how things have changed, eh?

a moral component. And there was not the virulent class friction that exists today. The sacrifices of WWII & Korea were still palpably felt, and I recall that even the 90% tax bracket people didn’t object too much, in fact they even joked about it. As I’ve read hundreds of WWII period magazines, there is an underlying optimism in the future.
Yes, the free enterprise spirit was as strong as ever and the seeds of the MIC can be detected (retrospectively), but the real progress made by labor (along with a sense of universal sacrifice) were nearly fully acknowledged.
However, the soon to be Civil Rights Movement, the advent of the Great Society/Medicare and Women’s Liberation/birth control (just to name a few)were just too much for the Privileged White Male, and we’re witnessing the second generation reaction today in full force, as they fight back against any loss of social and economic privilege.
Of course they fall back upon the most convenient and ready available propaganda of external fear, socialism and patriotism etc., while extolling the absolutely irrefutable universal benefits of free enterprise capitalism (which is really just colonialism IMHO).
To even challenge this belief is anti-American, with politicians and the media ridiculing any such views.
As far as I can see, people get technology confused with [social] progress. We are still fighting the post Civil War and 20th Century battles and isms. Is the world safer today, and the future more optimistic than it was in 1870?
