If there is one thing that is certain the former Governator was all braun and no brains. Holding the office of the eighth largest economy in the world and treating it as an action movie. In his life it was a two hour thrill ride yet for the rest of us it was seven years of endless destruction and counting.
In the recent Vanity Fair interview economic girly man shows once again how he will be nothing more than a muscle head with nothing between the ears.
Yet party religion followers fell for the on screen charisma over substance. Oh you remember 2001 and the chants of “Gray Out” from the radical right. Blaming Davis for energy shortages caused by ENRON and fully endorsed by the Bush administration. Attacking the Governor for handing out political favors which were doubled down under the action hero.
In Schwarzeneggers own words he is just very nonchalant about the entire he mess he made.
“En route to the Leno show “I just thought, This will freak everyone out,” he says. “It’ll be so funny. I’ll announce that I am running. I told Leno I was running. And two months later I was governor.” He looks over at me, pedaling as fast as I can to keep up with him, and laughs. “What the fuck is that? ”
“All these people are asking me, ‘What’s your plan? Who’s on your staff?’ I didn’t have a plan. I didn’t have a staff. I wasn’t running until I went on Jay Leno. “
His view of his seven years trying to run the state of California can be summarized in one word FAILURE. The sum total of his tenure was to drop California’s economy from fifth largest to eighth, increase the size of the debt for the state and try to balance it by cutting pay and benefits for civil servants and a full court press on their pensions backed by fixed data from a right wing think tank.
But it was all a gas right?
Schwarzenegger responds to the suggestion that he basically failed as governor and sheds light on why he just isn’t that damn upset about it:
“You have to realize the thing was so much fun! We had a great time! There were times of frustration. There were times of disappointment. But if you want to live rather than just exist, you want the drama. You have to step back and say, ‘I was elected under odd circumstances. And I’m going out in odd circumstances.’ You can’t have it both ways. You can’t be a spoiled brat.”
Yet you can flex your muscle on people that have no control over the budget, you can attack the poor in favor of tax breaks for corporations and you can stomp your feet call people “girly men”, but you dont have to be a brat. Yeah right.
