Where Is The Line?

Is there a line anymore? Who determines the line? Is the fact that the folks who claim to determine the line, like Faux News, are the ones who usually cross it relevant?

To wit: Is John McCain senile?

This is at least the fourth time that McCain has asserted a direct Iran/al Qaeda connection.

Is he too senile to be President? Or is he just incredibly stupid? EVERYONE who knows anything about Iraq knows that Iran would not train and equip Sunni insurgents/Al Qaeda. But especially if you buy into the alleged existential threat that the Republicans peddle that includes Iran trying to take over Iraq, they would be training the very folks who would be insurgents against them! After five years of this crap, the Republican fear mongering lies have woven such a ridiculous net of lies, that they can’t even keep them straight in their own heads.

Especially the senile ones, like John McCain.

He calls it a slip, but says he is the best qualified….after ‘slipping’ four times.

Asleep ‘at the switch’ of the Straight Talk Express. Best qualified indeed.

As Bill Maher said recently

“We’re one terrorist attack away from John McCain rising in the polls by ten points because people think he’s tougher. Of course he’s not tougher about the war, he’s dumber about the war … because he thinks that by keeping troops in the heart of the Muslim world, that’s gonna help the war on terror.”

In this semi-post Rovian era (as if he doesn’t still have a hand in, ha!) where all semblance of decency and integrity has been decimated and nuked and buried, where the politics of personal destruction is now the norm, where DO decent people draw the line in trying to defeat a political opponent? How far do we go in trying to defeat yet another delusional, Mad Republican Bomber?

While folks around the blogosphere tie themselves in knots fighting over which Democrat should get the nomination, this angry, unstable, OLD man who either has no idea what is going on in the world he is supposed to protect us from, or is losing it mentally…..has taken the lead over both of the Dems in the latest polls. To the point where alleged Democrats say they will vote for this warmongering wanker.

Let’s just hope that when we get a nominee, they devote the same energy to defeating this disaster waiting in the wings as they are spending on cannibalizing their own Party. Oy.

  2. He saw how effective it was against the mindless.

  3. Today’s TPM Must Read = http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com/

in which Josh Marshal announces a new series of essays, starting today, where he will be discussing the potential for  a disasterous outcome of a McCain Presidency.

I am grateful they are doing this for it is becomming more of a possibility as the Democratic party fails to come together over a nominee. And please don’t say “it still early days” as it isn’t anymore, hence this series, hence his concern – a very real concern – which I share.

  4. He bet he is dreaming about being a viking.

Yep, that about sums it up:

We might forget who it is you’re supposed to be afraid of…but be afraid, be very afraid!!

  6. On Air America radio today, Thom Hartmann reported about a right wing talk show where a speaker (named Johnson)       compared Barack Obama’s speech of 3/18 on race, class and values to the speeches of Adolf Hitler.!!!

The delusional fear-mongering grows and grows.

  7. can’t keep his terrorists straight, either that or he everybody is as senile as he is. He knows one song and it’s Bomb, Bomb Iran. The media however tries to make like it’s fatigue or wily campaigning. I refuse to be afraid however I’ve had it with fear be it fear of the ‘terrorists’ or other assorted foreigners or fear of the right.

This primary is a process, for once it’s working against the status quo inevitable hand picked by insiders and the TV. Cannibalizing is a strange way to look at a real rift in the party. I’ll always pick the side that doesn’t try to scare the crap out of me while promoting themselves with chest thumbing bs straight from the same book that got us this nightmare. Got to run out and pick up my tickets for Obama, he’s coming to Portland tomorrow I’m going to hear my ‘cult’ leader speak.

wherein it is pointed out GOP see’s spreading of Wright story to media (TV) outlets as ‘key to victory’

  9. you ain’t SENILE

Took a work break.  Went over to silly orange just to see what was up, to “lurk”.  10 out of 10 Rec’d Diaries were either “Obama = God” &/or “Hillary = Satan”.  Gad.  While 2/3 front pagers over their sort of try to keep it sane, they’re in the minority.

So, kudos for reminding us that McCain and the GOP are what we need to focus on (when focusing on the American Presidential Race).

    Again, thanks.

    Mu. . .

  10. The republicans have already done so–actually never took them off.  Rove is still alive and well and doing God knows what for McCain.

Then, there’s the scary (at least to me) fact that McCain has gained on both Dems in at least one poll: (emphasis mine)

“…The poll showed Arizona Sen. McCain, who has clinched the Republican presidential nomination, is benefiting from the lengthy campaign battle between Obama and Clinton, who are now battling to win Pennsylvania on April 22…”

“…McCain leads 46 percent to 40 percent in a hypothetical matchup against Obama in the November presidential election, according to the poll…”

“…Matched up against Clinton, McCain leads 48 percent to 40 percent, narrower than his 50 to 38 percent advantage over her in February…”

It’s my worst nightmare:  John McCain winning in November to continue bush’s policies for at least 4 more years–because the Dem candidates are more concerned with destroying each other than in beating McCain and keeping a republican out of the WH.

Thank you for your inquiry and email regarding Incendiary Wright Tape on

    CNN or Fox News.
We can certainly assist you with that.

Unfortunately, Time Warner has no control over the programming that

appears on any one channel and we make every effort to provide you with

a quality cable service.  You can contact CNN or Fox News regarding the

content of the program directly at CNN.com.   If you have any further

questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at our customer care

    center at

1-888-892-2253. Our telephone representatives are available 24 hours a

day, 7 days a week. Have a great day!

Thank you for choosing Time Warner Cable

    My Responce back:

Not true. I was the head of Programming for United Cable and also worked with both John Malone and John Sie at TCI for years.I have shared many a day with Fred Dressler and Jeff Bewkes.

On the contrary it is ONLY the cable operator that a programmer will listen to. Now I can start a stampede on Time Warner’s customer service reps from coast to coast. I clearly know how to that. But I prefer to be civil and ask that you pass this request up the chain of command

    .

  12. I may be assuming too much. Getting the media to back off the Wright tapes is NOT about supporting Obama over Clinton.

It is about not allowing the GOP access to the golden goose they think will win THE ELECTION for them – the Wright tapes.

  13. Via Retired Army general says draft will be necessary if McCain becomes President:

“…Brigadier General John Johns (U.S. Army – Ret.), a specialist in counterinsurgency and nation-building, said that it will be necessary to reinstate the draft to provide the manpower to maintain the large military necessary to implement McCain’s vision…”

Dems candidates should be holding McCain’s feet to the fire non-stop on the issue of where he intends to get the troops to fight in Iraq for “100 years”.

  14. I created a temporary blog and have linked it to numerous on line blogs serving the cable industry.

  15. McCain’s age and physical condition are unavoidable factors in this campaign. Here is a good summary of actuarial data: Actuarial Tables.

A 72-year-old white male (McCain will turn 72 in August) has a 3.5  percent chance of dying within the following year.

Remember that McCain suffered 5 1/2 years of torture, stress, and poor nutrition in a North Vietnamese prison camp.

if each year of detention added two years to McCain’s biological age, an 83 year old white male has approximately a 10 percent chance of dying within a year.

If each year of such stress added three years to McCain’s biological age, an 89 year old white male has slightly more than a 16 percent chance of dying within a year.

Remember also that McCain has had bouts with malignant melanoma. The odds of his having a major health crisis before the end of this year are not trivial.

Advanced age, even in the absence of clinical dementia, is very often marked by increasing rigidity of views and unwillingness/inability to adapt to changing circumstances.

In some important respects McCain’s life story resembles George W. Bush’s pattern. McCain had a successful father and a successful grandfather; indeed, both were Navy Admirals. Was John McCain admitted to the U.S. Naval Academy as a legacy, rather than on the basis of demonstrated ability? Remember that he graduated sixth from the bottom of his class at Annapolis. In the Senate, despite his exaggerated claims of “maverick” status, he has displayed little intellectual curiosity. Neither does he display intellectual breadth or agility on the stump or in response to questions. Is it likely that McCain has read a single book in the past five years? His understanding of the Middle East cauldron is primitive and cartoonish, at best, and therefore is perfectly congruent with that of the Bush/Cheney White House.

And McCain is the best that the Republicans could do? Let the real race begin.

  16. he’s too smart.

America is not up to the task.
