It’s The Republicans, Stupid!

Post partisan my ass! That MIGHT be a good theme as a campaign strategy. It MIGHT appeal to an electorate tired of the incompetent,  ineffectual and just plain stupid brand of government they have been getting for the last ten years….you know, since the incredibly partisan impeachment of Bill Clinton by the Republican Congress….

It might sound … nice …and evenhanded and reasonable and mature and responsible and all that. But it ignores the simple and undeniable fact that since the Republicans lied, cheated and smeared (including smearing their current champion when he was running against Bush) their way into having full unfettered dominance of the government…..just about everything that could go wrong has gone wrong and the country is in sad, sorry shape.

Because of the Republicans.

Everything the Republicans has touched in the last decade has turned to crap. From the micro (life saving stem cell research) to the macro (Climate Crisis) the Republicans have had full power to implement their vision, programs and policies….and have gotten it disastrously wrong every single time.

So Barack may have a good strategy, as far as appealing to the mature thinking voter. But someone simply must point out the obvious. Since the Republicans have held power the country has gone to hell in a handbasket due to their partisanship, ideology based governance and pure stinking REPUBLICAN incompetence.

This election is not, and cannot be allowed to be, a referendum on Obama. This election is about throwing out the politicians who have turned America from the world leader it was before the Republicans took power, into what it is today:

Broke, ten trillion dollars in debt, in two failing wars, in a recession and a credit crisis that is getting Americans thrown out of their homes, with flat wages, high inflation and unemployment, few if any good jobs being created, our prestige, moral leadership and international reputation in tatters and with 80 percent of Americans saying we are on the wrong track.

Who put us on the wrong track?

The Republicans.

Are you better off than you were 8 years ago?

Of course not. Why?

The Republicans.

We have lost over 4000 American soldiers and spent hundreds of billions of dollars on a pointless war. Why?

The Republicans.

Is America safer from terrorist attack today? NO.

Thanks to the The Republicans.

Is there a destructive amount of partisanship in American politics? Sure there is….why?

The Republicans have made it so. Starting with the most partisan impeachment in American history, and continuing on with ridiculous stunts like the Schiavo fiasco, outing a CIA network for political revenge, politicizing the Department of Justice, Jack Abramoff’s Republican corruption ring, voting against body armor for the troops serving in a war they started, the Medicare scam, lying us into the Iraq war, the Walter Reed scandal, warrantless wirtetapping, torture,  trying to destroy Social Security, illegal signing statements, the housing bubble and credit collapse, a seemingly endless string of hypocrisy-ridden sex scandals, a tanking economy and four dollar a gallon gas. On whose ‘watch’ did this all happen? Including the attacks on 9/11 that they were repeatedly  warned about?

The Republicans.

Who has brought you…through their gross incompetence in managing domestic oil markets and grotesque foreign policy of war for oil, brought YOU four dollar a gallon gas? That’s right, the Republicans

This election is NOT about Barack Obama’s experience or qualifications.

It’s about …..the Republicans.

And WE have to hammer that home until the corporate owned, status quo supporting, John McCain worshipping media pulls their head out of…the sand…and reminds each and every voter.

Republican President George Bush and his rubberstamp Republican Congress have, pardon my French, screwed this country into the ground. They have had eight years in the spotlight with carte blanche to do whatever they want. In that time, the Republicans have created a failing America and nearly eliminated the Middle Class, their running of the government has been blatantly and inexcusably incompetent, and their policies and ideology are bankrupt. They must be removed from power for the good of the country. This election is about them, The Republicans

Jack Cafferty (h/t tristan57)in his column today gets it.

He will leave office with the country $10 trillion in debt, fighting two wars, our international reputation in shambles, our government cloaked in secrecy and suspicion that his entire presidency has been a litany of broken laws and promises, our citizens’ faith in our own country ripped to shreds. Yet Bush goes bumbling along, grinning and spewing moronic one-liners, as though nobody understands what a colossal failure he has been.

I fear to the depth of my being that John McCain is just like him.

The majority of the American people get their news from the corporate owned media, the corporate owned media reads the blogs. While Obama, right or wrong, takes the high road, WE need to make sure the rest of the sees what Cafferty is starting to see and informs the electorate. Informs that no matter how much the Republicans want to make this election about Obama, it is really about one crucial theme.

It’s The Republicans, stupid!

  2. …the Republicans have had full power to implement their vision, programs and policies….and have gotten it disastrously wrong every single time.

Actually, as far as they’re concerned, they have gotten it right and they’ve met their goals. The mistake we make is thinking that this has gone wrong, it hasn’t… not for them.

    What has happened was premeditated.

is their goal.  “Look, mom, government really doesn’t work. Gate those communities.  Deregulate the media. More Blackwater now.”

I was nauseated enough from the clams. Now I have to look at George Bush on the front page of DD? I just about hurled on the monitor.

Isn’t this republican crap over with yet?

How much longer do we have to wait for the rest of the country to wake up and start using their collective brains boots?

  3. Terrific rant!  I’m in the choir already, though.

This confirms what I sensed during my lifetime (and a couple decades before I was born)–we cannot possibly overstate this:

Joe Sixpack does worse under GOP leadership.

I was surprised last September that CNN and Time let him say it publicly.

TIME’s publishing reporter Andrea Sachs spoke with Cafferty: September 15, 2007:

No one has ever accused CNN commentator Jack Cafferty of being a shrinking violet. He routinely sounds off in his own tart, curmudgeon-like way on CNN’s popular news show The Situation Room. Now Cafferty has written his first book, It’s Getting Ugly Out There: The Frauds, Bunglers, Liars and Losers Who Are Hurting America (Wiley)

    .

[Sachs]: One new poll says that a majority of people favor impeachment for President Bush. Your reaction?

[Cafferty]: I’m not the least bit surprised. There’s a case for taking a look at what the Administration may or may not have done that rises to level of high crimes and misdemeanors. Impeachment was put into the Constitution for a reason. I think it was perhaps one of the most arrogant things I’ve ever seen in my life for [House Speaker] Nancy Pelosi, on the day after Democrats won control of the House, to make this announcement as though this was Moses coming down with the tablets, that impeachment’s been taken off the table. Well who the hell is she to take it off the table? It’s part of the Constitution. I think there is reason to suspect that things have been done that may not be kosher, and I think the government’s responsibility is to determine that. That’s part of why they’re there. That’s what Congress does. That’s the checks and balances. So whether he deserves to be impeached or not, I guess we’ll never know, because they’re not going to bother to look at it.

[Sachs]: Has anything you’ve ever said on the air really gotten you in trouble?

[Cafferty]: Once. I called Donald Rumsfeld a war criminal the night before the midterm election. The president of the network and the executive producer of the Situation Room and two or three other management gerbils assaulted me en masse, immediately as I got off of the air, saying, “You can’t say that.” Apparently, what happened was our correspondent at the Pentagon started getting these phone calls from people in the Pentagon, saying, “Cafferty just called Rumsfeld a war criminal.” I had to go on the air and say, “You know, I’ve stepped over the line.” That being said, I will go to my grave as Jack Cafferty, Private Citizen, believing that these people committed war crimes.

  4. with congresscritters up for re-election literally running away from it, ya’d think this would be..you know…obvious 😉

  5. of all of the ways the Republicans have fucked things up – but you forgot Katrina…the one that I think did more to open up people’s eyes than anything else.

We need to help them remember this:

    And the Republican response:

Satisfied? That’s done. Now, what’s the next thing you are going to cause to happen?
