Wild Wild Left Radio # 26 Screws, Coups and Loose Screws

Join Gottlieb, Ed Encho and I tonight at 6pm EDT on Wild Wild Left Radio, via BlogtalkRadio.

Take a well earned week off, and boy, does the news pile up.

We are going to have an extra half hour available tonight, just to try and cover all the news! One week only 6-7:30!

Tonight we will be covering everything from the loose-screws of Palin and the Jackopalooza media blitz, to the Coups in Iran and the Honduras.

Then there is the total screw of Israel’s kidnapping of McKinney and human rights activists, followed by loose screw hoards of ultra conservative Jews in Israel attacking individuals for not following Sabbath rules in the streets.

There is the North Korea “cyber-attack” making news, too. True or mind-screw? With the new cyber czar and the “free” google OS coming (&google provides the govt info freely) one has to wonder.

We have the Health Care good cop/bad cop Rahm/Obama dance playing out, with the potential to screw us all out of viable options, while the Insurers agenda seems to always win. Will Franken as #60 make a difference?

Then on to the largest segment: Matt Taibbi’s Bubble piece and how Goldman Sachs has screwed us all!

I implore you all to view the five 2-3 minute segments below the fold, where Taibbi makes all this voodoo user friendly and blatantly clear.

The call in number is 646-929-1264

This is going to be a HUGE show, folks and the extra allotted time will make lots of room for interested callers to weigh in!

Colors and Time

(Crossposted from The Wild Wild Left

(a natural follow up to my future shock essay)

I remember a line from a book or movie, having no recollection of the source material itself, where someone asked this genius what he thought about most of the day. They were sitting outside, and the genius had this far off look of wonder on his face, staring out into the world. He answered his curious friend, who was sitting there, palpably concentrating, trying to “figure out” the workings of his mind,”Colors, mostly.”

“Colors?”

“Yeah, I like all the greens a lot.”

I really liked that line a lot. I loved the bafflement of the listner, who was so busy trying to figure out the answers to everything, he totally forgot how to live in “time.”

To be fully aware, you have to live in the now, the scents, the colors, the sounds, the tastes, right in your skin, and appreciate the full wonder of the moments that pass before you.

I’m acutely aware of time, I live in time more than space. History is cool and all, but the greatest of philosophies happened because the people living them wrote to their times unheeding of those before them, and only paying minor attention to the future.

Future Shock is Now, Mark my Words, and Help us All

Crossposted from my tiny bog, give me some love.. Wild Wild Left

In 92 when Clinton was elected President, people think of it as the beginning of the end.

No my friends, it goes much further back than that. In 1980, the year before I graduated, my father was still making 20,000 dollars a year, enough to put us soundly in the middle class, although his decision to spend much of that putting his 5 children through Catholic Indoctrination ate much of that.

He deeply resented that my fresh out of High School eldest brother, living at home, was working for Detroit Diesel and out-earning him by far. He had started as a “chipper,” a sweeper, and within a couple years was on the line. He would make “production” in a few hours, then spend the rest of the time reading. 8 years older than me, he was my “book dealer” since I was 10. (We were all voracious readers) I was reading Heinlien’s “Stranger in a Strange Land” and “Future Shock” at 10.

By High School, he had made Electrician, and I was scoring his pot for him. By the time he moved out, his car cost more than my Dad’s house, and he and his girlfriend working also as an electrician at Wixom Ford, could barely scrape to buy an average house.

Suddenly my Father realized that their combined 80,000 dollars now bought less than his 20,000 did, then his lower one income ever could. These two could not POSSIBLY raise one child, let alone two on one income.

The slow boil of the frog had started.

My Shock Doctrine, my Future Shock starts then…. he only missed what Naomi filled in, the INTENT.

Toffler argues that society is undergoing an enormous structural change, a revolution from an industrial society to a “super-industrial society”. This change will overwhelm people, the accelerated rate of technological and social change leaving them disconnected and suffering from “shattering stress and disorientation” – future shocked. Toffler stated that the majority of social problems were symptoms of the future shock. In his discussion of the components of such shock, he also coined the term information overload.

The CIA Coup You Aren’t Supposed to Notice

Honduran President kidnapped, beaten, deported for trying to hold an election so that the people could vote on amending their Reagan given constitution written by SOA dictators.

I’m on some pretty wide ranging email lists, and often have volumes of mail. How I got on this list, I haven’t a clue. Today, my inbox was empty, but for this one:

Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela

Ministry of People’s Power for Foreign Affairs

Statement

The Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela condemns the coup d’état that the Honduran oligarchy is attempting to perpetrate against the constitutional government of President Manuel Zelaya Rosales and the people of Honduras.

President Manuel Zelaya Rosales was kidnapped, removed from his home by force, rendered incommunicado for several hours, and violently expelled from his country by a group of unpatriotic, coup-mongering soldiers. The hooded soldiers kidnapped Chancellor Patricia Rodas and also arbitrarily detained and beat the Ambassadors of Cuba, Nicaragua, and Venezuela. These shameless soldiers are responsible before national and international laws for the crimes that they are committing and for the violation of the constitution and its laws.

The government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela strongly urges the international community to condemn this situation and urges that the necessary measures be taken by us to defeat this coup d’état in Honduras and to reestablish the legitimate government of President Manuel Zelaya Rosales.

What I Want

I read my little “Care to Causes” articles this morning, as I usually do to sign lots of petitions, and came across this:

http://www.care2.com/causes/po…

While worded to “support” the idea of public option, it served only to greatly piss me off.

I’ve read the conflicting opinions and analysis about Health Care, including Chris Dodd’s emails insisting single-payer still be an option.

I agree in theory with Gottlieb’s supposition that “public option” is akin to a last straw of broken promises. (I disagree that Obama is a ‘good’ man, though, at this point I think he is a brilliant man, a genius at manipulation. I doubt his will is good now.) Yes a foot in, but who would risk his employment, his child’s roof to protest for cheaper shit he couldn’t afford anyway?

You see, I get it, I will be wildly pissed if 72% (the newest #) of the people’s will gets summarily ignored in losing even Public Option. Worth a day trip to Lansing to protest on my day off. Yes. But:

But what REALLY cheeses me off is that we were promised single-payer, and it was never even OFFERED as a viable option for us.

Guess what? A private/public insurance that will supposedly lower the prices by “competition” is just another Capitalist venture by any other name. Dig it.

We cannot afford our fucking houses, Mr. Obama. How the FUCK do you think we can afford even a discounted policy for a family of three?

A 60 yr old with high blood pressure & cholesterol (oops, that raises the price) a 46 yr old with cancer history, and heart history (that raises the price) who smoke (that raises the price) and a ten year old????

Can.

NOT.

AFFORD.

It.

Can anyone hear us now?

I worked all my life, and this is what I get? Poverty and illness? They are making us a 3rd World Nation: With Intent.  It is CRIMINAL.

There are reams written by insiders and players, who claim that the “boomers” will break us all, which is utter bullshit considering population has grown since then. Give every immigrant Citizenry and problem solved. (Of course they will never do that, the White Power Boyz Club, for the same reason the Zionazis won’t allow a one-state… fear of reprisal in being outnumbered… fear of attaining the “second class” status they imposed)

The propaganda is so fierce protecting the profiteers, that they even want to block making records electronic, because it would become public just how many DENIALS of service the profiteers impose on their “clients.”

What they are offering is Walmart insurance to a sweepingly destitute population. “Hey there’s a half-off sale on bypass! Woot, quick honey sell a kidney, I want one!

Fuck that. I will expound later, but DO NOT FOR A SECOND BELIEVE THIS COULD NOT BE DONE.

How about closing Halliburton & Blackwater’s contracts, getting completely out of the ME? There is always money for the War Machine and bailing out the rich. Trickle down looks like sewer run-off from where I sit.

Death is profit. Our lives are only profitable if we PAY not to die.

Put me out there to sell it. I could make every single person in America demand single-payer. One slogan.

“DEAD UNTIL LIFE IS PURCHASED FROM US. ITS THE LAW.”

With so many things bearing down on me, the former middle class (covered Monday) its hard NOT to go into Shock and fold, settling for crumbs.

My last straw broke long ago, now I’m just trying to stay alive, keep my baby (and yes, he is still a baby) alive.

So forgive me, readers, for my rage against all of them. I’m not safe by far, and still have everything to lose, and nothing left to lose.

Its about to get much worse here. Much, much worse.

Off to do work that usually only illegals will take, landscaping in 90 degree heat with my middle aged, bad heart, bad back self… and praying nothing happens today. Just one day at time, god, let me survive it, because if ANYTHING happens, I die.

Fuck this Country. Fuck President Obama. Fuck Congress and the Senate and their Corporate Overlords.

They won’t bring my job or benefits back. So.

I want SINGLE PAYER.

Where’s Their Votes?

We in America tend to see everything in terms of potential fallout for our own interests or in terms of the very real incidence of our own interference in the political manipulations of other Governments.

Lest we forget, these are not the faces of CIA operatives, nor Israeli plants, as Ahmadinejad would have you believe. This is a young population, with World access at their fingertips via technology.

One need only look at Iran’s long tradition of revolution to try and achieve Democracy, juxtaposed against a young and increasingly supportive of women’s right populace in the face of a government that has reinstated a detested “Guidance Patrol,” a law enforcement division that stops women for wearing, say, capri pants, flower-print head scarves or too much lipstick.

2/3 of enrolled University Students are women.

The campaign Change for Equality is working toward their One Million Signatures to get Parliament to review 10 laws against women.

The Revolution will not be Televised

It will be twittered and blogged.

(I am leaving reporting on Iran’s Revolution itself for worthier minds, and less busy minds, but wanted to briefly address this one angle. I woke myself at 5am to do so.)

Iran has grabbed control of radio and TV communication, predictably, as would our own nation should we ever try to regain control of our own Corporatocracy.

The frightening thing is, this is a template, if you will, of how a Nation must be ready to technologically block information. Every despot and intelligence agency in the World is taking notes and making plans, including our own Internet Czar.

Sure they can shut down phone service, but how to block all the satellite uplinks that drive the internet and cell phones? The images and reports go viral instantaneously across the globe; especially with a young and savvy population. Standing in a crowd, it is easy to get off a one line twitter, so that all concerned can follow the tag and have warning. or hear of new protest plans. Texting will only go to your circle, so the hashmark tag allows anyone who uses it to connect with all Iranians of a like mine.

People don’t talk about it in terms of “the hive mind” for nothing.

Torture by Gag – US Policy.

Apparently some of our best soldiers are less “fabricky” than others. They threaten the “fabric” of our troops.

But, if GAGGED their “fabricity” remains intact, thus that they are often decorated and rise within the ranks of our fine armed services.

Are you fucking kidding me?

Damned – A personal abortion essay

That’s how I felt then, trapped and damned.

Photobucket  He didn’t want the baby.

He wasn’t even sure about me after a year.

I understood the fear he came from, the betrayal he felt when he and Jill fell apart. I loved him so, and he would leave me if I had it. Maybe. He said he wasn’t sure, but he was positive he wasn’t ready to be tied to a child with me. We had little money. We weren’t even living together. He thought himself too unstable, I thought him the most sane being, the most enlightened being on the planet. I suppose in retrospect, with the adults I grew up with, he was by comparison. I was 22, he was 37. He had a thousand reasons, and let me know every one of them.

I always wanted a dozen kids. But I knew this man was my soul-mate. Knew upon knowing it was he that I would spend my life with, believed with all the certitude and bravado of youth. I couldn’t lose him. Couldn’t. He was my world, and introduced me to so much more of the world than my sheltered past had. He was my guide, my mentor, and I suppose a bit of the father figure that I lacked.

He claimed that I loved him now, but would tire of him as we aged, that I would be too young to want an old man later. He said he had taken lousy care of the kid he already had.He said abortion was really the only option. He railed on it, endlessly.

Finally, after many tears, he conceded it was my body, and ultimately my choice, but not to count on him in it.

I needed time to think. I had other concerns going too….

Wild Wild Left Radio #22 From Violence to Peace

Join Gottlieb, Ed Encho, and I tonight at 6pm EDT on Wild Wild Left Radio, via BlogtalkRadio.

Tonight we will be discussing the murder of Dr. Tiller, the arrest of Hal Turner and Obama’s speech in Egypt… all under the broader umbrella of whether the promotion of Peace can ever surpass the promotion of violence that the entrenched moneyed power uses for its own interests against us.

RIP, Koko Taylor, I Knew and Loved Ye.

She passed yesterday, this legendary voice at the age of 80. I remember more when she was around 52, and used to hang out at the huge Blues House my friend lived in, in Dearborn.

Photobucket

The Detroit/Chicago blues community was tight knit, and nearly every weekend, the band my friend lived with would drag some musicians back from places like The Soup Kitchen, The Attic, Lenny’s and by god, it was divine.

The bigger “planned parties” would have a 5 dollar cover, with 2 full garbage bags of pre-rooled doobies by the door, and 7 or 8 kegs in the basement where the music was. The “other” stuff was usually available in pay-as-you-go in one of the 10 bedrooms. Heh.

I had never been properly introduced to the world of the blues, fresh out of High School, and what a way to learn them… so many greats whose names I didn’t recognize until much later played, sang and hung with us.

But Koko. Jesus, she could stop you cold. The funny thing is, some people would come in with an entourage, and splash, you KNEW “someone” had arrived. Most times you never noticed Koko come in, she had a way of making herself invisible I have often envied… but suddenly this VOICE would ring through the house, and everyone would jam down the stairs to hear her.

GOD she could sing.  Her shy little self would sidle up with all the flashy other stars, and when she opened her mouth you KNEW where the talent was.
