Pirates of the Somalian
This is not the story of Robin Hood. This is not a clinical case study, nor a predictive model.
It does however seem to be a History Repeats story. A story of many Nations who never got to grow unto themselves. A story written for them, not by them, just as their very lives were by conquerers and outsiders bent on controlling and exploiting them.
It is a tragedy. It is what humans, even ones perhaps trying to do the right thing at first, do when collapse of modern*society happens. We turn into something else.
(*I say modern, because peoples untainted by Western culture rarely devolve into this: a philosophical discussion for another day)
So, people, do you ever wonder how a mostly English or Italian speaking country, that at one time was the envy of the ancient trading world; and one of the only Muslim African Countries that allowed women equal vote when they gained their independence, came to War Lords, Pirates, and poverty in a lawless International Toxic Waste Dump?
I sure did. I am still trying to figure it out.

Death to the Bourgeois
There are times I really want to go all S.L.A on the fucking rich and terminally clueless. Not just the AIG assholes and Banker types that are lighting the fires of even their own eventual demise, but the self-absorbed bitches like Madonna and Angelina Jolie-Miller-Shmizu-Thorton-Pitt who think plucking a child or 6 out of poverty and lavishing them with untold fortunes and nannies makes them humanitarian. At least Brangelina actually does some humanitarian work, but still. JOKE. Then there are the yacht club intellectuals and jet set Bonos of the media preaching it down to us, all while comparing the relative value of a French versus a Brazilian celebration of the Easter services. Yeah, that resonates with us poor slobs. NOT! Clueless fuck didn’t even get how that would sound.
I wanna grab a pitchfork and extend the Conneticut AIG Mansion Tour into a Tour of All of them. I wish I wasn’t the queen of non-violence.
I listen as even Congress critters whine about their diminishing 401’s and think to myself they need the Reverse Tour. Make every one of those Washington families live on MY income, with no outside help for a fucking year. You assholes could sell ONE of your fucking houses, boats, or luxury cars and pay my bills for a year.
NONE OF THEM HAVE A GODDAMN MOTHERFUCKING CLUE.

We will start off the hour with talking about Obama’s Economic Speech and if Nationalization stands a chance against America’s Financial Oligarchy.
Then we will discuss Obama’s !!New Rules!! for Cuba taken well with the grain of mind-boggling salty block disparity between the fast track of Cuban immigrants, vs the prosecution of Mexican immigrants, and the flat out shooting of Haitian immigrants. He has done no favors for the US or for Cuba by this action.
Next up will be the Torture Memos. As twitters @mikemadden puts it, with jaw-dropping irony, Memos: “The use of the waterboard constitutes a threat of immediate death.” But you feel better once it stops, so not torture. Keith Olbermann calls Obama on the carpet, speaking for me in a Special Comment last night about Obama’s failure to do the right thing. (Vid below the fold)
Then we move to the encroaching Domestic Police State, as highlighted in the Janet Napolitano Report (little napolean, heh) Of course, with segue’s into the Constitution-free border zones tazing, and the moral questions of brutality and security vs liberties.
Wow, so much to talk about.

April 15th, the Day Formerly Known as Prince
Happy 5 in the morning! I’m trying to wrap my head around Obama’s economic Speech yesterday, while cursing this early-bed early-rise loop I have fallen into. Curse you Mr. Franklin, that was utter bullshit, btw.

Do no harm to WHOM, Mr President? The Banks or the People?
But Dad? It IS broke, you know, except for Goldman Sachs who turned a nice profit this quarter. But you don’t give a rats ass about that do you? You also used to say “I’ve never seen a Brinks truck in a Funeral Procession,” and there certainly wasn’t one in yours.
But today is the day formerly known as Tax Day; the one the Faux Pundits have tried to rename Teabagging Day. Like Symbol/Prince, you have to wonder if the new moniker will stick.

Cuba: Smells Like Opposition Funding
(and a chance to grab that swing Florida vote!)
I had wondered about Obama’s saying, back in December, whether Obama was considering normalizing relationships or not with Cuba. I even had hope that by closing Gitmo (which has not yet been done, remember) it would aid in that effort.
‘I will maintain the embargo,’ Obama told a gathering in Miami. ‘It provides us with the leverage to present the regime with a clear choice.’
Obama came under heavy criticism from the presumptive Republican nominee, John McCain, who accused the leading Democratic candidate of taking a soft position toward the regime dominated by the Castro brothers.
But Obama stuck by his pledge to hold unconditional talks with Cuban leader Raul Castro, but only after ‘careful preparation’ and a ‘a clear agenda’ that would help ensure discussion would produce real reforms in Cuba.
‘As president I would be willing to lead the diplomacy at a time and place of my choosing,’ Obama said, accusing McCain of distorting his position.

This group handed Florida to Reagan and both Bushes, with 80% coming out strongly for Republicans in this swing State.
In a move that would elate both Liberals (who see it as a step toward Normalcy) and Neo-Cons (who want that Wealthy-Capitalist influence back in Cuba) Obama has made it possible for funding and travel from ONLY this Republican demographic to interact with Cuba.
Brilliant, but not in a good way.

Mexico, Israel, US, Exceptionalism
An off hand comment, intended as infantile bathroom humor by a male coworker:
“Ah, man. My coat’s going to smell like a sewer. Luis is in the bathroom taking a dump, and he always stinks it up.”
I cringed a little, grossed out, but keeping my work game face on said, “Luis partied last night, maybe too much tipping..” making the universal glass tipping motion toward him.
“No,” he said straight faced. “Too much beans and salsa, you know all that Mexican food.”
I gave him that sidelong look, you know the one I mean, that long suffering look of Mothers everywhere for when their kids say really stupid shit. Not irritated so much as tired.
“Luis isn’t Mexican. He is Venezuelan.”
He grinned his goofy apologetic grin, shrugged and smiled at his own stupidity, “Venezuela, Mexico, like I would know the difference, they’re all the same to me. They all speak Spanish.”
He walked away too quickly in his lolling gate, almost bouncing like a cartoon character, for me to point out the very obvious. More on that later.
Jesus, it almost tied together my two separate essays I have on hold.
The lack of cultural and geographic understanding and why tribal pure states will no longer work. Sounds strange but the source is the same. Intentional ignorance.

Broken
Author’s Note: I wrote this Tuesday, more or less because I couldn’t NOT write it. I had no plan to share it here really, it is very raw for me. But it seemed to resonate with my readers at WWL, and I have been asked to make our Radio Show about it Friday
The idea is, that as our Empire Collapses, we all are having personal, visceral fall-out, and maybe, just maybe people like you would want to call in and share where you’re heads are at. If it is all effecting you personally, not just financially.
So, here I am opening a vein, and tossing it out to see if it floats. Scary.

Something is broken.
I suppose this is how it begins, when even the spiritually strong begin to become unraveled by death of a thousand tiny cuts, you know? People of the Midwest, as John Mellencamp opined in his intro on Sundays thread, do have the advantage of living in silence. We know how to be by ourselves in the World and be okay with it, be okay with our own internal dialogue. I cannot for the life of me get how big city people do it, with the barrage of input and distraction. But I digress…
Its like all the little lines tying me to everything are being severed one by one, either of my own doing or by happenstance.
Perhaps running the waitress game again has brought out too much of the actor in me, the conformist, leaving the real me floating inside watching the game. Perhaps my childhood created this other actor/me in a self-preservation instinct, but I have become so consummately good at it, that the real me almost never dares to venture out.
I suppose this is how the threads unravel in society. Isolation and acting.
