So. You want to be an Automaker?
I would have settled for being able to get a factory rat job back in the day. I’d be retired by now.
Romney was here today saying that they shouldn’t bail them out. Romney. From Here. Let them go bankrupt. Get rid of the Unions. The workers are the problem.
Really Mitt? Whats your angle in all this?
We ain’t gonna bend over, Mitt.
You & your Amway buddies wanna buy them up, cheap? God know their workers are paid on a glorified Ponzi scheme.
Its never the 100 times the salary upper echelons making the decision to jerk off on the backs of the sweating plebes. Noooooooo.
Blame the auto workers, who have taken pay cut after pay cut, concession after concession and still cannot afford to buy one of the luxury cars they lease, so they can legally be sold as used to Kuwait.
See the market isn’t us, you fools. Its Kuwaitis and Saudis. The cap on what we sell them doesn’t apply to “used”, hence the leases.
Actually, I’m glad.
Close it down, mutha fuckas.
Bring it on!

OPOL Relief Fund (extended)
I haven’t been on in days and days, and it absolutely fucking breaks my heart to read this.
I remember what Docudharma did for me like it was yesterday when last winter we were almost evicted for back taxes. We are still on the brink, constantly, dodged foreclosure by days again…. they keep promising to rework the lying trick they pulled when they boosted our interest to 18%, but I know we are ALL close to the same fucking boat.
Now goddamn it, OPOL before you argue, you generously helped my ass when I was down.
Do you know how generous and cool this man is? Do you all KNOW how kind he was to me? Shit, crying again.
So even if you, like me, can only donate 20 bucks, now is the time. Even 5 for every regular reader he has…..
Even if we cannot save his rental, lets help him transition.
OPOL set up a Paypal right now, ok? Right NOW, or post a PO box. Do it.
I just had company just walk in, so I’ll be back in an hour or two to finish this.
I know this community will come through, and this is going elsewhere as well.
YOU CANNOT STOP LIBERALS FROM HELPING EACH OTHER.

A Battle for Hearts and Minds
Cross posted from WWL
Its pathetic when I start to think of 2000-2008 as halcyon days. Remember when all we could focus on is getting rid of the Bushites? We were united, man.
Predictably, I see the Left splintering, like children who, now that the evil stepmother has been banished argue about who gets the biggest piece of candy and who gets theirs first.
Not even a moment of awe at America electing a man of color, we cynically start complaining immediately about his lacks both real and perceived.
Imagine, if you can, had McCain won, how we would be acting, what would we be saying, if you would be renewing your passports… as he announced he was keeping Bush’s whole cabinet intact.
Rahm Emanuel has a lot of panties in a bunch, but hear me out, please.

BREATHLESS
Breathless, almost trembling and thrilled, like that tightness in your body standing in front of a new, true love waiting for that first touch. Heart racing, mind overwhelmed into a perfect blank slate, waiting to write together a new history for yourselves.
It is going to be utter torture after I race off to vote this morning, drop our leaf blower to my friend Kate, drop Jake off at his friends to be babysat and have to spend 4 hours at work with no political input. Hand out iced teas, take orders, bus tables, bring extra Olga sauce. School is out, maybe I will be too busy to wonder and obsess.
TORTURE for a political junkie.

One Day Out
(I wasn’t going to cross post this from WWL, because it is weird, but maybe this crowd is more likely to get me. It got nothing there… so I won’t be offended if it doesn’t here either. LOL… I’m just me;)

Woman denies Halloween candy to Obama supporters
Fox 2 News says a sign posted outside Nagel’s house, about 12 miles west of Detroit, served notice to all trick-or-treaters. It read: “No handouts for Obama supporters, liars, tricksters or kids of supporters.”
Other reports had her grilling even tiny children at her doorstep, and even if they didn’t answer “I support McCain” because they were too young to even know politics, she sent them away crying.
When asked about children who’d been turned away empty-handed and crying, she said: “Oh well. Everybody has a choice.”
One has to think her house has moved waaaaaay up on a LOT of people’s Devil’s Night list for next year.
If only dreams came true. Next up?
In the “Diane really has weird dreams and is often the heroine of them…” vein, last night I had this trippy scenario:

A Conversation about Afghanistan
My husband was talking yesterday about Afghanistan, how it was about to really blow up. Besides his ardent love of listening to NPR on various stations during his working hours, he had caught a Frontline “War Briefing” about Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Musharraf made a deal with the war lords, paid them off and got voted out of power. Bhutto got assassinated. You all know the recent history.
The real point of the show was that the influx of Extremist Muslims to the area from all over the Islamic world determined to make it an Islamic State has made it volatile.
Here’s where our conversation got interesting.

Fractal Geometry, Mayan Baktans and Repeating History
December 21st 2012, the end of this Mayan Cycle, which is prophesied as the end of times… could it be a Palin election, global warming floods or just World revolt against the poverty into which we have been stricken?
Trying to define our fractal existence into Euclidian Geometry, our brains seek to make this:
into this:
No matter how many times we repeat the form, it never makes sense.

Americans are like the retarded offspring growing at the edge of a lush and healthy European field. You know, the row of corn too close to the road commission’s weed kill spray to flourish, but not close enough to die out completely.
We just don’t get it, but think all corn should look like us. USA! USA!
When I used to speak daily with people in Sweden, Germany, and Belgium working as an Atlas Copco distributor (tooling for auto plants) they were amused and disgusted by our working conditions.
You don’t have a year off paid with your new baby? 9 weeks, unpaid? Your husband has no time off with his baby either? You don’t get a month paid Holiday in the summer? No free health care? No free College? The option for a 4 day work week?
You Americans let them treat you like slaves.
I was STUNNED, had no idea how good they had it.

Glorifying Violence; Why My 9 Yr old Foregoes Football by His Choice
Lets forget that Hamburg abandoned the idea of starting first graders the year after Jake joined. Lets even forget how they looked like bobbleheads trying to hold up the helmets at that age.
Jake has long gotten over the abuse he endured as a pacifist kindergartner, the target of bullies who came home bruised. He has gotten over the fact I eventually had to take pictures of boot prints bruised into his back. I guess good parenting in the land of right wing toughies means something different then I anticipated. I failed him, I taught him to fight back way too late… including a trip to the emergency room with a spit open temple. His Dad did teach him that eventually- the bully, once his nose bloodied, left Jake alone.

Riots Break Out in 17 Cities
November 5th, 2008
AP/UPI
Diane G, WWL National Newsgroup
Protests broke out last night and this morning after a surprising John McCain upset over frontrunner Barack Obama.
Amidst charges of dubious voter challenges, irregular counts and vote tampering, riots and demonstrations took place in several major cities including Detroit, Cleveland and Palm Beach last night and this morning.
Unconfirmed sources have reported widespread damage to property, injuries and 23 deaths.
Local Law Enforcement Agencies were supported by the deployment of National Guardsmen and the First Brigade of the Third Infantry Division. In Louisiana, where the demonstrations were more widespread in smaller Parishes, Blackwater agents were also deployed to prevent violence.

Pack Mentality, Debate Style
John McCain’s body language was so clenched, so tightly wound, I was waiting (ok, almost hoping) for him to explode into one of his famous tantrums.
His forced soft-speak, reminiscent of Bush’s almost whispery speech when he was trying to win people over seemed strained, not natural. The muscles in his clenched jaw visibly flexed and twitched with tension.
Then there is the arm thing. Has anyone else noticed his arms seem to stick out at a 45 degree unnatural angle, binding just below the shoulders in an obvious ill fit from all the padding? Even his body under the suit looked padded, to make him look bigger.
He looks like a robot, with his stiff hands and jerky movements.
Obama however looked comfortable, loose, natural, even graceful. Dominant.
