The Drop-Outs
I snuggled back into his body, the warmth of his skin battling the cold clean air of the morning. Bright, crisp air. We hadn’t been fogged. That bode well, I thought as I pulled my head away from the now-familiar heartbeat and listened intently. No one in camp was stirring yet, there were no sounds that didn’t belong to my woods. I curled back in, knowing I would not be able to regain sleep, but enjoying the feeling of safety of the moment. Safer than I had felt in a very long time. My hand instinctively sought my gun in the darkness, laying beside us. I had buried one person I loved already, and I sure as hell wasn’t going to let them wrest my boys from me without a fight.
I sidled out of sleeping bag silently, and slipped on my jeans and sweatshirt. Early riser me, and the creator of all things coffee for the crew every day. Not a bad job description, I figured, chuckling to myself. I have a minimum daily requirement level of solitude that gets sorely tested with the drop-outs, no matter how much I adored them. And slipping away alone was seriously dangerous these days. As was an encampment too large. This one was starting to worry me, as tree bulletin board system had brought more than I had anticipated. But no is not in my vocabulary. I’ll figure something out. But these mornings were mine alone.

Meet Nick Medvecky.
Nick will bring a whole new layer to the discussion – for he was himself framed and imprisoned on a false drug charge with a sentence of 25 years. His real crime, was messing with the wrong FBI informant. The real focus, years and years of COINTELPRO interest in him.
Not only is his tale a cautionary tale for activists, with the degree he earned while under arrest, and his experience as a journalist and photographer, he now is using his voice to explain what our Prison Industrial System truly is.

When the controversy broke about then Senator Obama having known Bill Ayers, my first thought was “cool, maybe his is one of us. Since then, it is Obama that has disappointed, not Professor Ayers.
My discussion with him will strive to contemplate, contrast and compare the social movement of the 60’s and 70’s with what is happening now. I think he can, as someone who has been fully immersed in the former shed light on the latter.
Great effort has been taken to marginalize, even demonize and true socialist with any chance of influencing the dialogue in this country. While active in the advancement of progressive education, that that alone is considered too “radical” for the “educational industry” speaks volumes about how far right we have been pushed as a Nation.
Today, this nation is under a far more militant resistance against OWS activists than the anti-war activists of the SDS and WU were… I wonder, how will it survive?
I am thrilled an honored to be able to have a conversation with Bill! I am sure we shall all learn much from him.
Bill Ayers is an American elementary education theorist and a former leader in the movement that opposed U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War. He is known for his 1960s activism as well as his current work in education reform, curriculum, and instruction. In 1969 he co-founded the Weather Underground. He is a retired professor in the College of Education at the University of Illinois at Chicago, formerly holding the titles of Distinguished Professor of Education and Senior University Scholar

The Battle Field America
It sounds like something out of a post WWII film.
Fade in: The SS meets in secret, and creates a plan to start pulling people off the streets. “We must be able to do this,” the man who crafted the plan says, “and eliminate the enemies in the motherland!”
Next scene: People’s homes being broken into in the dark of night, writers, refuseniks, protestors being black-bagged and dragged away…. then their families pleading to the authorities to find out where and why their beloveds were taken.
“That is classified, Madame. Though, if you don’t hold your tongue, you may find out personally…”
The audiences would cringe in horror at the thought. America was for freedom of expression, and here was censorship. America was for fair trials, and here was political imprisonment. America was for transparency, and here lay secrecy, treachery, plot.
Yeah, dudes, that was all so five minutes ago… or at least pre-9/11. The new order formed from the false flag attack has brought us exactly to that point.
Enter the Defense Authorization Bill.
It defines as a battlefield the United States itself, and allows the Military to detain without charge or trial any citizen here they deem a “threat.” Snatch you, keep you for as long as they wish, forever if they want – and you, and your family have no recourse. No process. No oversight. Nothing. Just “presidential order” and “military execution.”
Posse Comitatus is not just dead, it has been violated, mutilated and raped post mortem.
THIS IS THE BIGGEST THREAT TO OUR FREEDOM THIS NATION HAS EVER FACED!

The massive plundering of the U.S. Treasury and all its resources has been almost on a scale that is criminally insane, and has literally destroyed the lives of millions of American people and American families. Exactly. You and me, sport – we are the ones who are going to suffer, and suffer massively. This is going to be just like the Book of Revelation said it was going to be – the end of the world as we knew it.

2012: There is Only One Cure
There are many elements of change.
This is a tough one for the Oligarchs. Really. I can’t imagine their contingency plans, and all their think tanks could have come up with this. They expected the riots of 66 and 68, or perhaps they envisioned a charismatic leader who they could discredit. Or assassinate.
Leaderless. Peaceful. Powerful. Old. Young. Right wing. Left wing. Centrists. Black. Latino. White. Asian. Straight. Gay. Military. Anti-war. Blue collar. White collar.
Most of all? Numerous. Really fucking numerous.
And this, my dears, is the tip of the iceburg.
Determined. Even as the sun sets, and whispers of the police donning their riot gear and approaching. Determined.
And as the wee hours approached, more tear gas, more brutality. Badges hidden by tape, the men abusing us wanting to be anonymous villains in the night.

Obama: Hard-anodizing the Hierarchy
The problem with Teflon is that Teflon peels, eventually. But you see? Rust never sleeps.
Teflon fails quickly when hard tools touch it. You see, when there is a Republican holding the Highest Office in the Land, the non-Fox media at least objects marginally to the actions of the Hierarchy. The Left, however breaks out the big tools – questions tough as nails, tries to scrape away the facade with steel wool investigations. Teflon barely worked for Ronnie. Teflon was an epic fail for Bush the lesser.
Clinton had Teflon, though the Left used softer tools on him, like nylon flippers for NAFTA. But in the end, the harder tools of the Right made Teflon “suck” for him, so to speak. Even many on the Left were turned off by that affair.
So, you see, they needed better cover. Some how they had to electrify the process to create an impenetrable coating for the Hierarchy. They needed a coating that was not only surface veneer, but something that would create a reaction that hardened the actual base itself in such a way nothing would ever stick. Yes, yes, electrify the base, create a whole new brand of “change” to keep the inner workings coated in such a way nothing would get through. Enter Stage “Right”….

Vestigial Virgins – The Taking of the West
We, the Western Civilization are the last vestiges of semi-autonomy; we see ourselves as Vestal Virgins keeping that flame, but in truth we are vestigial appendages that no longer serve any purpose whatsoever to our hegemonic host.
Now, that may seem like a mouthful of words, a contrived way to play out a pun, but it is not. The truth is plain to see.
Somehow, we wrapped our heads around it from our very inception as a Nation. The atrocities done the Peoples whose land we coveted were “Savages.” The Peoples of Africa were “Lazy Mud-people.” The Peoples of Russia were “Godless Communists.” Southeast Asia was full of “Cat-eating Gooks.” The Peoples of South America were “Violent Drug-dealers.” The People of the Middle east were “Raghead Jihadis.” Now, Africa again, is full of “Tribal Terrorists.”
We went along with it. We go along with it. We never asked what the Peoples of those Nations, the People themselves wanted. We just “knew” somehow, if we could make them more like us, they’d be better off, you see. We were the keepers of the flame of Democracy, Hard Work, The American Dream, McDonalds and Huarachi sandals too. If they weren’t so backward, such animals, they would see we were trying to help them. You know, they made us kill them, the idiots. We were Freedom Inc© weren’t we? The ants go marching one by one, hurrah, hurrah and Johnny got his Gun, by God.
We made the Wars look sexy, Shock and Awe in technicolor. We brought vaccinations and antibiotics to cure the diseases they got from us. We moved them out of tents living in harmony with nature and brought them into the sweatshops. We bombed their asses back into the stone age, by golly, a clean slate on which our new history would be written.
Were we the Virginal face of Freedom and Democracy, or the very Visage of the fiery demon of nightmares to the “other” peoples of the World?

Happy Birthday Michael.
See? I do remember your birthday. Heh. You always teased me when I said, “Is your birthday Wednesday or Thursday?” One of our jokes. Its only because I rarely know what the date is today, not the date of your birth. I still have to look at the phone to write a check. Some things never change.
We really miss you. We do. I asked Jake how he thought we were doing last night, and he said “Almost too good.” He felt a little guilty about it. I promised you, I would not let this be the thing that turned his perfect little world to shit. I think I’m keeping it pretty well. We cried and laughed about stories about you, then. We don’t know exactly what to do with days like this. The Holidays looming over us is really scary. They are going to hurt too. But I won’t let this break him. Break me. Having you in his life was a good thing. I won’t let it become the bad-thing that ruins his beautiful spirit. You would never want to be that to him.
The revolution has begun, babe. You would be thrilled about that. People ARE waking the fuck up. You would LOVE IT!
I had to let the property side-lot go. Man, you should have never got involved with that guy. You used to say he was a weasel, but he was your weasel. Not so much, dear, not so much. Cut throat is what he is.
I keep wondering when I will ever get all the piles of shit all over from your Mom’s house, and your pack rat shit cleaned up. I know, you would hate it, but I am going to have to get brutal and just start tossing stuff out. I have to downsize. I have to make order out of this chaos. I have to make it my own now.
I remember when we were younger, you worrying about if I would still love you when you got old, and I wasn’t. The almost 15 years between us scared you. You never got old. Not to me. Not to anyone, really. You got sick, thats different.
I used to sing “When I’m 64..” to you, kiss you and laugh away your fears. I loved you every day until the end, and love you still. I’m so sorry you didn’t make 64. That would have been so cute to bring it full circle.
I don’t know where atheists go, hell I’m not sure where the Catholics go either, anymore. Recovering Catholics like us are a weird lot. I still feel you around sometimes. See you, hear you. Its okay to move on, sweetheart. I’ve got this. We’ve got this. Be at peace.
Somehow, we will live through today, live through the dreaded Thanksgiving. I always hated that Holiday anyway. Yeah, you’re right. I won’t make a Turkey. I only did that for you.
Christmas morning will be brutal though. I will light up the neighborhood still, with my silly lights on my not-so-tiny anymore line of pines. We will do what we always have done.
I wish you were here. I wish I was calling you in your big truck, singing to you on your 63rd. I wish I was planning your favorite dinner.
I wish you could be with me when I cut Jake loose with his cousins to go trick or treating sans parent. He is getting soooo huge.
Where ever you are? You are loved, and remembered with love.
