Good Lord, what a bunch of jackasses

What a bunch of jackasses.

These people are not only incredibly stupid, they think we’re even more stupid than they are.

And they might be right.

Check this shit out:

US says bin Laden sometimes slips into Afghanistan

Oh REEEEEAAALLY?

Let’s see how this is working here.  The Pentagon crook Robert Gates has decided that in spite of a majority of Americans “lacking the resolve” to “perservere” and “win at all costs” in Afghanistan, has decided to have some stupid lackey tell us that hey, you know, sometimes Osama bin Laden actually crosses the border and ENTERS Afghanistan.

He could be there right now!   He could be!  I mean, prove that he’s not!  I’ll bet you five bucks he’s there right now!   And and and if he does, and we’re bombing Afghanistan when he walks into it, he might walk into one of our bombs and and and then he’d be, like, dead!  ‘Cause we’d blow him up!

What a childish bunch of douchebags.

Do they have any evidence of this?

No.

Is there any intelligence that might actually support such speculation?

No.

Is this anything other than a wild guess?

No.

Is it pure unadulterated bullshit?

Yes.

I could just as easily get up on a podium in front of the press and swear that I’m pretty sure Ken Lay is alive and well and living in a Penthouse suite in Reno.  Have I actually seen him?  No.   Do I have any evidnece he’s there?   No.   Then why would I say such a thing?   Because he could be there.   It’s possible!

Asked on CNN’s “State of the Union” whether the administration has reliable intelligence on bin Laden’s whereabouts, Jones replied, “The best estimate is that he is somewhere in North Waziristan, sometimes on the Pakistani side of the border, sometimes on the Afghan side of the border.”

Yeah, and sometimes he’s at the Taco Bell in Kandahar.  I mean, why not?  He could be.   That’s a “guess”, too, right up there with his “best guess”.   What makes one “guess” better than another “guess?”

Jones did not comment on the intelligence behind that estimate, nor did he cite a time period or describe more specifically bin Laden’s apparent border crossings.

That’s because he doesn’t have any intelligence.  Of any kind.  The kind in your brain that makes you smart, or the kind that gives you information.

Gates told ABC’s “This Week” that “we don’t know for a fact where Osama bin Laden is,” although he agreed that his likely location is North Waziristan.

Yeah, and who told you that, Gates?  The Osama fairy?

Obama administration officials have often asserted, as did the Bush administration, that they believe bin Laden is being sheltered on the Pakistani side of the border, along with other senior al-Qaida leaders. But Jones broke new ground by saying publicly that the al-Qaida chief may at times have slipped back into Afghanistan.

Oh good, they believe it.   Well my son believes that Santa Claus lives on the North Pole, and I think that both are about as likely.

I quit believing in Santa Claus when I was eight years old, and I quit believing in the Osama Bin Boogeyman a few years ago, too.  Both are myths designed to manipulate people into behaving certain ways.  My son will jump through all KINDS of hoops when I tell him stories about Santa Claus.   It feel kinda guilty, but we do it to everybody, right?

Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., made a somewhat similar, if less specific, remark Sunday about bin Laden’s movements. He told NBC’s “Meet the Press” that knowledgeable people have told him that bin Laden “moves back and forth.”

Yeah, and he does pilates every morning, too.  And brushes his teeth with the bones of a dead secretary from 9/11.

Have you seen that movie “Idiocracy”?   This country is actually turning into that.

“Squirrel!!”

Spying on you, it turns out, is lucrative!

Get ready.  Turns out that spying on Americans is a lucrative business.   Yes, it’s becoming its own “Industry”.   Soon we’ll have a Domestic Spying Lobby, Domestic Spying Foundations, Domestic Spying Majors at Universities.

All this time, I thought they did it because, well, they were evil.   You know, that whole “power corrupts” thing.   But no, it’s really pretty mundane anymore — you can sell the info that you get on your customers.   I guess companies have always done this, but instead of giving your phone number to annoying telemarketers, they are giving a record of your whereabouts, and everything you’ve ever said on the phone, to the fucking GOVERNMENT.

Here’s one little story about it:

Yahoo: Our spying policy would ‘shock’ customers

A little-noticed letter from Yahoo! to the US Marshals Service offers troubling insight into the surveillance policies of one of the Internet’s largest email providers.

In response to a Freedom of Information Act request seeking details of Yahoo’s! policies allowing the Justice Department to request wiretaps of its users and the amount they charge US taxpayers per wiretap — the search engine leviathan declared in a 12-page letter that they couldn’t provide information on their approach because their pricing scheme would “shock” customers. The news was first reported by Kim Zetter at Wired.

“It is reasonable to assume from these comments that the [pricing] information, if disclosed, would be used to “shame” Yahoo! and other companies — and to “shock” their customers,” a lawyer for the company writes. “Therefore, release of Yahoo!’s information is reasonably likely to lead to impairment of its reputation for protection of user privacy and security, which is a competitive disadvantage for technology companies.”

Yahoo! also argues that because their price sheet for wiretaps was “voluntarily submitted” to the US Marshals Service, it is exempt from the Freedom of Information Act law.

Verizon, meanwhile, says (letter PDF) they can’t provide details on how much they charge for wiretaps because it would be “confusing.”

Hell, why can’t the Justice Department just come to us first?   I mean, if they wanted to buy a record of my e-mails and my whereabouts, shouldn’t they offer me the money first?   I’ll gladly tell them!   I’ll wear a goddamn ankle bracelet for them if the price is right!   No need to go to Yahoo at all.   But no, it’s always Corporate Welfare First with these people …..

Here’s the other story:

Sprint Nextel provided law enforcement agencies with its customers’ (GPS) location information over 8 million times between September 2008 and October 2009. This massive disclosure of sensitive customer information was made possible due to the roll-out by Sprint of a new, special web portal for law enforcement officers.

8 million times!   Holy shit!   How do they even have the personnel to handle that kind of info-tsunami?   WTF is up with that?    I’m a Sprint customer, did they pay for my records?   Again, I’ll gladly tell them if they want to pay me!   Or shit, just give me free phone service and they can do whatever they want with my records!   “Hey, honey.   I’m at the store.  Are we out of milk?  I can’t remember …..”

And one of the links embedded here points to the fact that I’m not joking around here, this really IS a business!

Nice!   Big Brother has gone public!   You, too, can have a career in spying on your neighbors.    I thought we won the cold war, and the Soviet Union was no more.   When did we turn into a capitalist version of it again?    Oh yeah, “911 changed everything blah blah blah blah”.   Fuck 9/11.    What Ben Franklin said.   If you don’t know what I’m talking about, look it up.   Something about deserving to lose your liberties.

Obama made Karl Rove very proud. I’m not kidding.

I know all the actions over at the Great Orange Satan, but I just have to diary this here, because, well, I don’t go over there.

Tonight, Obama has made Karl Rove and the Republicans very proud.

No sarcasm, no joke, no satire.   They actually really approve of this.

Bush Officials, RNC Praise Obama’s Afghan Knowledge And Surge Strategy

Two prominent Bush administration officials are publicly praising President Obama for his decision to send additional troops to Afghanistan.

In an incredibly rare occurrence, the Republican National Committee hosted a conference call on Tuesday in which the featured speaker, Dan Senor, a former Bush spokesman in Iraq, applauded the White House and said he was “quite encouraged by the president’s decision.”

“It sounds to me based on what we know that it is a very good decision and I applaud him [for it],” Senor said. “If you would haves said to me that a year into this administration that he would have doubled our troop presence in Afghanistan… Plus not reduced our troops meaningfully in Iraq. And if you had told me he would have fired General [David] McKiernan and replaced him with General [Stanley] McChrystal (a surge proponent)… I would have had a hard time believing it. So I am pleasantly surprised.”

Senor wasn’t finished with the flattery. While stressing that he would have preferred that Obama had made his decision sooner, he ventured to call the president “an expert” on Afghanistan, owing to the length of deliberations. “He is clearly educated about it,” Senor said.

Senor also urged critics of the president to be patient in allowing his Afghan policy to play out — a proposition that will definitely be tested in the months and years ahead. “There will be a rush to compare 2010 to 2009 and say it is not working,” Senor predicted. “The real comparison should be to compare the summer of 2011 to the summer of 2009.”

Noting that the additional 30,000 troops will reportedly be deployed to Afghanistan by May 2010, Senor said: “If that is the case that is terrific. I think you will see improvements in Afghanistan quite quickly.”

The former chief spokesperson for the Coalition Provisional Authority in Iraq wasn’t the only one-time Bush hand to lavish praise on the current president. Appearing on NBC’s “Today Show” Tuesday morning, Karl Rove said that if reports of a 30,000-plus-troop surge were true, it constituted “a definitive action.”

“And if the president does do that, I’ll be among the first to stand up and applaud,” Rove said.

I’m so happy that the President who tricked all of us into voting for him has made his true masters happy.

They’re proud of him tonight.

Must feel good to be Obama right now.

Finally!   He’s pleased them!

Whews!

Obama will maintain secrecy on millions of docs scheduled to be released

This will be short and sweet, and nobody’s posted at at Dailykos yet, so someone here might actually respond and find this interesting.

Release of secret reports delayed

WASHINGTON – President Obama will maintain a lid of secrecy on millions of pages of military and intelligence documents that were scheduled to be declassified by the end of the year, according to administration officials.

The missed deadline spells trouble for the White House’s promises to introduce an era of government openness, say advocates, who believe that releasing historical information enforces a key check on government behavior. They cite as an example the abuses by the Central Intelligence Agency during the Cold War, including domestic spying and assassinations of foreign officials, that were publicly outlined in a set of agency documents known as the “family jewels.”

The documents in question – all more than 25 years old – were scheduled to be declassified on Dec. 31 under an order originally signed by President Bill Clinton and amended by President George W. Bush.

But gosh, it’s not Obama’s fault, you see, nothing is ever his fault.  This time it’s the fault of the intelligence agencies who are, well, apparently more powerful than he is.

It seems EVERYBODY is more powerful than Obama.   At least in “Obama’s World”.

It’s hard work being President, isn’t it Barry?

You fucking liar.

Wow, Maurice Hinchey “Goes There!”

I’ve always loved the little-known Maurice Hinchey, from New York State.

Back in 2005, I wrote about him in one of my very first Dailykos essays.     Here’s what he said then:

New York congressman Maurice Hinchey (D-NY) delivered a fiery critique of the Bush Administration’s drive to war in Iraq, labeling the push part of a “conspiracy” to deceive Congress and occupy the country.

(snip)

Speaking of the four protesters who spilled their own blood at a military recruiting center, Hinchey said “what they were protesting was the conspiracy of the Administration of George W. Bush to bring about an attack and then an occupation of the country of Iraq, and as a result making the world a much more dangerous and difficult place than it was prior to those actions.”

“It is that conspiracy,” he added, “that conspiracy which has now been documented by among other things official British documents called the Downing Street Memo which are communications between the highest ranking officials of the British government – the head of the British Intelligence, the foreign officer, the prime minister himself.”

Hinchley’s remarks break ranks with most Democrats in Congress, who have been critical of the leadup and operations surrounding the Iraq war, but who have been loath to deliver stinging perorations. The New York Democrat said he saw the trial as somewhat Orwellian — a move towards curtailing speech.

“We do not want to see an end to this democratic republic,” Hinchey quipped. “We want it to be strengthened. We want it to go on forever. We don’t want it to be ended by people who are telling us, or who would like to tell us, what we can do and say and even think. But that’s what this Administration is engaged in.”

No wonder this guy doesn’t get any press.

But check out what he said today:

Rep. Hinchey: Bush ‘intentionally let Bin Laden get away’

Flight 77 Data Recorder: The Cockpit Door Wasn’t Opened; Hijack Impossible

Well this is rather interesting.   Hat-tip to Cryptogon.

From Pilots for 9/11 truth dot org:

9/11: PENTAGON AIRCRAFT HIJACK IMPOSSIBLE —

FLIGHT DECK DOOR CLOSED FOR ENTIRE FLIGHT]

(PilotsFor911Truth.org) – Newly decoded data provided by an independent researcher and computer programmer from Australia exposes alarming evidence that the reported hijacking aboard American Airlines Flight 77 was impossible to have existed. A data parameter labeled “FLT DECK DOOR”, cross checks with previously decoded data obtained by Pilots For 9/11 Truth from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) through the Freedom Of Information Act.

On the morning of September 11, 2001, American Airlines Flight 77 departed Dulles International Airport bound for Los Angeles at 8:20 am Eastern Time. According to reports and data, a hijacking took place between 08:50:54 and 08:54:11[1] in which the hijackers allegedly crashed the aircraft into the Pentagon at 09:37:45. Reported by CNN, according to Ted Olson, wife Barbara Olson had called him from the reported flight stating, “…all passengers and flight personnel, including the pilots, were herded to the back of the plane by armed hijackers…”[2]. However, according to Flight Data provided by the NTSB, the Flight Deck Door was never opened in flight. How were the hijackers able to gain access to the cockpit, remove the pilots, and navigate the aircraft to the Pentagon if the Flight Deck Door remained closed?[3]

Founded in August 2006, Pilots For 9/11 Truth is a growing organization of aviation professionals from around the globe. The organization has analyzed Data provided by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) for the Pentagon Attack, the events in Shanksville, PA and the World Trade Center attack. The data does not support the government story. The NTSB/FBI refuse to comment. Pilots For 9/11 Truth do not offer theory or point blame at this point in time. However, there is a growing mountain of conflicting information and data in which government agencies and officials along with Mainstream Media refuse to acknowledge. Pilots For 9/11 Truth Core member list continues to grow.

Enjoy.  Please pass along to others.   If you doubt the credibility of this site, please check out that bottom link for the member list.  It’s pretty impressive.

Pilots know the “official story” of 9/11 is a lie.

How about some Holiday-week OUTRAGE?!

My things seem chill here.   Everybody seems to be in a groovy frame of mind, maybe it’s the holidays, maybe we’re all just high on cold medicines (I know I am, I’ve got a nasty one), maybe it’s just longer nights and the shorter days ….

But too bad.  I’m gonna hit you over the head with an article that will PISS YOU THE HELL OFF.

The AP — Whorin’ it up as always! Got good insurance? Then you’re the same as a welfare queen.

The AP continues its right-wing propagandistic ways, this time asking one of those “hypothetical” questions that the right wing loves to throw out there, you know, the “Is Obama really a Muslim”, or “Is Bill Clinton guilty of rape?” or whatever, you know the drill, it’s something anyone can do, it’s the classic “when did you stop beating your wife?” technique, but nobody does but the right-wing in this country because, well, nobody owns the media in this countyry except the right wing corporate bastards, and the AP is their clearinghouse for this shit.

So today, thanks to EK’s afternoon news digest here, I am presented with this gem:

Health reform: Is tax on ‘Cadillac’ plans fair?

KSM Falsely Confessed to Crimes He Didn’t Commit

There’s a great blog out there which is starting to get picked up in what you might call the “mainstream blogosphere” quite a bit.   Mainly in regards to its blogging about Wall Street.   In fact, if you just scroll down the front page right now, you’ll find a great many stories on Wall Street and the economy, and you’ll realize it’s really a fantastic compendium of information.

But what you also might not realize is that this very same blog is a great resource for information on the truth about 9/11.

I did a quick search on the site and here’s a treasure trove of entries.

Let’s pick one, shall we?

How interesting, and how timely!   Here’s the headline:   Self-Confessed 9/11 “Mastermind” Also Falsely Confessed to Crimes He Didn’t Commit

But wait a minute, the Obama administration is telling me this guy is guilty as sin, no question!   The mainstream bullshit media is also telling me the same thing!   How can there be such a disconnect!?

The thing the Bullshit Media (BM) is not telling us about KSM is that he was waterboarded 183 times in ONE MONTH.

As the Washington Post writes of Guantanamo Bay detainee Abu Zubaida:

President George W. Bush had publicly described him as “al-Qaeda’s chief of operations,” and other top officials called him a “trusted associate” of al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden and a major figure in the planning of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. None of that was accurate, the new evidence showed.

Okay, maybe they got that one wrong.

But certainly Khalid Sheikh Mohammed’s confession that he was the mastermind of 9/11 proves his guilt, right?

Well, as the Telegraph notes today:

Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the self-confessed mastermind of 9/11, was waterboarded 183 times in one month, and “confessed” to murdering the journalist Daniel Pearl, which he did not. There could hardly be more compelling evidence that such techniques are neither swift, nor efficient, nor reliable

If one of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed’s major confessions (Pearl murder) was false, why should we believe his confession about 9/11?

After all, tough-as-nails Navy Seals usually become hysterical when waterboarded once in training sessions. After 183 waterboarding sessions in a month, I wouldn’t be surprised if KSM also confessed to murdering Lincoln and Kennedy.

Jesus said it best

We’re spending how many billions to “rebuild” Iraq and Afghanistan?    We’re spending how many billions on enormous embassies in countries like Pakistan and Iraq, where the contractors hired to build them aren’t even Americans?

Meanwhile, at home:

This was Los Angeles, yesterday.

The Oakland Bay Bridge just broke.

The I-35 Bridge in Minneapolis just broke, killing how many people?

Sometimes a single picture can indeed say more than 1,000 words.

Jesus said it best with that line about “You have to remove the beam from your own eye before you can remove the splinter from your neighbor’s”.

Not that our lovely government is actually trying to help anyone with the equvalent of “removing a splinter” from anyone’s eye.  They’re just corrupt and realized that they can literally hand out millions and billions of dollars to their cronies by shipping the money overseas and into the waiting hands and duffel bags of “contractors”.

Meanwhile, America crumbles.

Is Blackwater behind the terror attacks in Pakistan?

You’d think a terrorist organization would welcome being responsible for terrorist attacks, wouldn’t you?

In fact, don’t terrorist organizations often claim responsibility for incidents that they had nothing to do with?  Isn’t that how they gain cred?   Isn’t their whole purpose of being to create “terror”?

Then why would the Taliban disvow responsibility for the recent attacks in Pakistan?

Taliban: Blackwater to blame for Pakistan attacks

The Pakistani arm of the Taliban has denied responsibility for a recent series of terrorist attacks in Pakistan, instead pointing the finger at Xe Services, the security contractor formerly known as Blackwater, as well as the country’s own security services.

“The Tehreek-e-Taliban are not responsible for the bombings, but Blackwater and Pakistan’s spy agency are behind them,” said Pakistani Taliban spokesman Azam Tariq, according to a translation from Al-Jazeera English.

”The dirty Pakistani intelligence agencies, for the sake of creating mistrust and hatred among people against the Taliban, are carrying out blasts at places like the Islamic university, Islamabad, and the Khyber bazaar, Peshawar,” the Associated Press quoted Tariq as saying.

Just to refresh people’s memories, or maybe to inform them for the first time, there has been a long, incestuous relationship between Pakistan’s secret police, the ISI, and the Taliban.   In fact, the Taliban would not have survived, or possibly even existed, without the support of the ISI over the years.

Also, there is a great deal of evidence that the ISI is, and has been, responsible for a great deal of “Islamic terrorism” over the years, and were even directly involved in 9/11:

The Pakistan connection — There is evidence of foreign intelligence backing for the 9/11 hijackers. Why is the US government so keen to cover it up?

Omar Sheikh, a British-born Islamist militant, is waiting to be hanged in Pakistan for a murder he almost certainly didn’t commit – of the Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl in 2002. Both the US government and Pearl’s wife have since acknowledged that Sheikh was not responsible. Yet the Pakistani government is refusing to try other suspects newly implicated in Pearl’s kidnap and murder for fear the evidence they produce in court might acquit Sheikh and reveal too much.

Significantly, Sheikh is also the man who, on the instructions of General Mahmoud Ahmed, the then head of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), wired $100,000 before the 9/11 attacks to Mohammed Atta, the lead hijacker. It is extraordinary that neither Ahmed nor Sheikh have been charged and brought to trial on this count. Why not?

Ahmed, the paymaster for the hijackers, was actually in Washington on 9/11, and had a series of pre-9/11 top-level meetings in the White House, the Pentagon, the national security council, and with George Tenet, then head of the CIA, and Marc Grossman, the under-secretary of state for political affairs. When Ahmed was exposed by the Wall Street Journal as having sent the money to the hijackers, he was forced to “retire” by President Pervez Musharraf. Why hasn’t the US demanded that he be questioned and tried in court?

You can easily look up the history of the ISI as it relates to the very existence of the Taliban and “Al Queda”.

Well,  interestingly enough, just yesterday the LA Times published an article about how our very own CIA has funded the ISI over the years.   And I mean funded it.

CIA says it gets its money’s worth from Pakistani spy agency

It has given hundreds of millions to the ISI, for operations as well as rewards for the capture or death of terrorist suspects. Despite fears of corruption, it is money well-spent, ex-officials say.

The CIA has funneled hundreds of millions of dollars to Pakistan’s intelligence service since the Sept. 11 attacks, accounting for as much as one-third of the foreign spy agency’s annual budget, current and former U.S. officials say.

The Inter-Services Intelligence agency also has collected tens of millions of dollars through a classified CIA program that pays for the capture or killing of wanted militants, a clandestine counterpart to the rewards publicly offered by the State Department, officials said.

The payments have triggered intense debate within the U.S. government, officials said, because of long-standing suspicions that the ISI continues to help Taliban extremists who undermine U.S. efforts in Afghanistan and provide sanctuary to Al Qaeda members in Pakistan.

But U.S. officials have continued the funding because the ISI’s assistance is considered crucial: Almost every major terrorist plot this decade has originated in Pakistan’s tribal belt, where ISI informant networks are a primary source of intelligence.

The White House National Security Council has “this debate every year,” said a former high-ranking U.S. intelligence official involved in the discussions. Like others, the official spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the subject. Despite deep misgivings about the ISI, the official said, “there was no other game in town.”

The payments to Pakistan are authorized under a covert program initially approved by then-President Bush and continued under President Obama. The CIA declined to comment on the agency’s financial ties to the ISI.

U.S. officials often tout U.S.-Pakistani intelligence cooperation. But the extent of the financial underpinnings of that relationship have never been publicly disclosed. The CIA payments are a hidden stream in a much broader financial flow; the U.S. has given Pakistan more than $15 billion over the last eight years in military and civilian aid.

Congress recently approved an extra $1 billion a year to help Pakistan stabilize its tribal belt at a time when Obama is considering whether to send tens of thousands of additional troops to Afghanistan.

The ISI has used the covert CIA money for a variety of purposes, including the construction of a new headquarters in Islamabad, the capital. That project pleased CIA officials because it replaced a structure considered vulnerable to attack; it also eased fears that the U.S. money would end up in the private bank accounts of ISI officials.

Gates has decided — no torture photos for you!

Good old Robert Gates, good friend of the Bush family, a player in the Iran/Contra scandal, the man who wanted to bomb Nicaragua in 1984, and former head of the CIA and now Obama’s ruler of all things Military Industrial Complex, has decided for us, that we shouldn’t see the infamous torture photos that have for so long been hidden from our view.

You know, the ones of soldiers raping and murdering and torturing children in front of their parents, those nice nasty bits of American Empire which salted the wound we’d cut in the breast of Iraq, that led to the brutal murder of the five mercenaries whose charred corpses were hung from the bridge?    Which led to the destruction of Fallujah, where American soldiers then shot families in their sleep, left the bodies to be eaten by dogs, burned people’s flesh off their bones with white phosphorous, and shot unarmed people who were swimming across the river to escape the carnage?

Yeah, it’s all part of the big picture, and we’re not allowed to see it.
