Noted Without Comment
There is essentially nothing I can add to this, which is the biggest unreported story in America as far as I am concerned:
For the fourth year in a row, U.S. marijuana arrests set an all-time record in 2006, according to the just-released FBI Uniform Crime Reports. Marijuana arrests totaled 829,627, an increase from 786,545 in 2005. Similar to previous years, 738,916 or 89 percent were for possession, not sale or manufacture, and marijuana possession arrests again exceeded arrests for all violent crimes combined…
Despite record arrests, marijuana use remains higher than it was 15 years ago, when arrests were less than half the present level, and marijuana is the number one cash crop in the U.S.

On Freedom
We can talk all we want about freedom and opportunity, about life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, but what does all that mean to a mother or father who can’t take a sick child to the doctor?
That, my fellow Democrats, is our frontrunner for our party’s nomination for President of the United States, Sen. Hillary Clinton. Sen. Clinton made that statement in presenting her plan for health care reform which, like that of former Sen. John Edwards, would compel all Americans to enroll in a health insurance program. Citizens would have an option of many private insurance options, or a public option similar to Medicare. Tax credits would ensure that no American is forced to pay more than a certain percentage of their income on health insurance.

Song for 9.17.2007
So, for today, I thought I’d share a song which is one of my all-time favorites, from one of the great lost bands of the 1990s – Carissa’s Wierd.
For those of you who don’t know, Carissa’s Wierd (misspelling intentional) was a fantastic group from whose ashes the currently popular (but far inferior) Band of Horses emerged. This is one of their best songs ever, “Die”.

My Docudharma Manifesto
No, I haven’t written my own manifesto. But my intention at this site, and one which I think it is particularly fitting for this site, can be summed up by Tristan Tzara’s 1918 “Dada Manifesto”, from which I quote:

Query: have we “officially” launched yet?
Um, so, I’m unclear as to whether or not the site has “officially” launched. Not that I suppose it matters that much, but I had hoped to make whatever content I post here original material and not cross-posted, so it will make a difference in terms of what (at least) I do.
This essay will be deleted after I get an answer, unless others want it kept up for some time.

Quote for Discussion
So, some of you may know that every once in a while, I throw up a diary on Daily Kos called “Quotes for Discussion”. Sometimes the quote is from a play or a book, sometimes it is from the news or from history, and sometimes it is just the lyrics to a song or a bit from a comedian.
Anyways, I was thinking of doing it more regularly as a feature here. But does anyone at all besides me have an interest in that?

Your Favorite Thing You Ever Wrote
So, the anniversary of a particular occasion in my life is coming up yet again. And, as it does every year, it reminds me of my favorite thing I ever wrote, which appears below the fold.

Pedophilia rawks!
Okay, so no, pedophilia doesn’t ‘rawk’, exactly. But it was the only thing that budhy said we couldn’t write about here. And now that he is “the man”, I just had the irrepressible desire to “stick it to him”.
Congrats on being “the man” now, budhy. Cheers.
