From ABC News
county officials sent a letter to delinquent parents and ordered them to show up with their children in court today so standby nurses can vaccinate children. If parents refuse, the consequences are serious.
“They’re grabbing the parents by the collars and saying, ‘You must vaccinate your children,'” said Dr. William Schaffner of the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine.
“It was very heavy handed,” said Aloma Martin of Fort Washington, of the county’s action. “From that letter, it sounded like they were going to start putting us in jail.”
Any children who still lack immunizations could be expelled. Their parents could then be brought up on truancy charges, which can result in a 10-day jail sentence for a first offense and 30 days for a second.
It’s official, the shit is hitting the fan….

My Grandfather, Carl “Tex” Lanier, was a Staff Sergent with the United States Army Air Force in WWII. He never talked about his service, he didn’t talk much actually, he was a very quiet man, small in stature but bound with incredible dignity. As a young girl, I lived with my grandparents on and off during my childhood, every now and then he would pull out his medals, uniform, photos or other such memorabilia, but he never explained what they meant to him. One time when I was about 13 years old, I noticed a scar in his neck and I asked him about it, my grandmother was standing nearby and tried to brush it away, but I was persistent. Once grandma left the room, he pulled up his pant leg and showed me the scars up and down his leg and told me his story. I don’t remember word for word of it, but now decades later, I have his story from a newspaper clipping that my mother gave me before she died. I have been reluctant to even go through some of these papers, it breaks my heart, I miss him VERY much-he was a wonderful person.

I’m so frustrated…I’m all set to go to Boston this morning to protest, rain and all…
Fine, I can deal with rain…I guess. I think the paint on my “NO MORE WAR” sign is water proof, so it won’t run.
But I just got a call from the baby sitter, she is sick this morning. Great no baby sitter for the kids. I quickly call the MIL,
“Mom? Can you take the kids for me today, please?”
“Sorry, hun…I can’t. I have to go visit two friends in the hospital.”
Cool, she’s being charitable, I can’t compete with that.
“Thanks anyway Mom”
I can’t ask the kids to stand in the rain with me, really. But….perhaps, it might work, we have good rain gear…

There is Karma after all…
From NY Times
PARIS, Oct. 26 – Several human rights organizations based in the United States and Europe have filed a complaint in a Paris court accusing the former defense secretary Donald Rumsfeld of responsibility for torture.
The group, which includes the International Federation for Human Rights, the French League for Human Rights and the Nork York-based Center for Constitutional Rights, filed the complaint late Thursday and unsuccessfully sought to confront Rumsfeld as he left a breakfast meeting in central Paris on Friday.

I ask you to watch the video below, let it empower you, as it has empowered me!
I am going to Boston on Saturday for the demonstration, and this video has given me so much inner strength…
I will yell, yes, I will yell very loudly…
I want my voice heard…
I want to inspire all those who haven’t yet decided to stand up for what they believe in…
I don’t want to have to set up another “Arlington East” on my beach…
I encourage ALL able bodies to get to a demonstration near you, there is no finer moment in history…we are knee deep in a fascist, warmongering state, we MUST trudge through the crap before we can rise ourselves up and out of this mess we find ourselves in.
Let Us All Unite!

I noticed this article yesterday from Associated Press, and following the foot-steps of several players in the run up to war with Iran, it looks like time is running out.
MOSCOW – Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert made a surprise trip to Moscow on Thursday to discuss Iran’s nuclear program with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who just returned from talks with Iranian leaders in Tehran.
The very day after Putin meets with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Isreali Prime Minister Ehud Olmert makes a surprise visit to the Kremlin. His message;
“In a situation in which Iran has nuclear weapons and Syria has sophisticated weapons from Russia, Israel will have to weigh its actions against these threats.”
Other Isreali officials (Ze’ev Hanin, an Israeli expert on Russian affairs) have declared Olmerts message as;
“Iran must not be allowed to acquire the atom bomb. Officials here have warned time and again that if the world does not stop Iran, Israel will. They say military action against Iran’s nuclear facilities is a last resort, but it is an option.”

Most of us are aware of the RFID tags and chips…now there are
Vanessa Alarcon saw them while working at an antiwar rally in Lafayette Square last month.
“I heard someone say, ‘Oh my god, look at those,’ ” the college senior from New York recalled. “I look up and I’m like, ‘What the hell is that?’ They looked kind of like dragonflies or little helicopters. But I mean, those are not insects.”
Out in the crowd, Bernard Crane saw them, too.
“I’d never seen anything like it in my life,” the Washington lawyer said. “They were large for dragonflies. I thought, ‘Is that mechanical, or is that alive?’ ”
What it does is let you try on virtual outfits and share with friends, allowing them to then text you back with a yay or nay. Besides the main panel where you can see your proposed new look, there are two other panels: the left showing you available pieces from the store, while the right offers up info on accessories that you might like.

This temple symbolizes the endless wisdom (Ananta Panna) of the Buddha just as the Thatbyinnyu temple symbolizes the omniscience of the Tathagata. Hence the name Ananta, which changed later to Ananda, the name of Buddha’s cousin.
The gilded htee (umbrella) caps the whole at a height of 168 feet above the ground. The interior consists of two vaulted and high but narrow corridors running parallel to each other along the four sides of the temple. They are connected by low and narrow passages in front of the window by which light is admitted and further intersected by four large corridors into which access is obtained through the porticoes.
In the center is an enormous cube, on the four sides of which are deep and high niches enshrining four colossal standing Buddhas of the present world who have appeared and entered Nirvana. The images are represented in the following order: north-Kakusanda; east-Konagamana; south- Kassapa; and west- Gotama. Each of them is 31 feet high above the throne, which itself is nearly 8 feet in height. Of these images only those on the north and south are the original ones contemporary with the foundation of the temple ; those on the east and west were put up later to replace the original images which were destroyed by fire.
Other Interesting features of the temple are the numerous glazed terracotta tiles (left page top) ornamenting the base and the receding terraces which represent the Jataka stories and the hosts of Mara’s army. Each of these plaques is inscribed with a Mon legend. The interior walls are honey-combed with niches in which are set small stone Buddhas in various postures. The most notable among the sculptures is a series of eighty relief’s in the two lower tiers of niches in the outer corridor, illustrating the life of the Bodhisattva from his birth to the attainment of supreme wisdom. The western sanctum also enshrines the life-size statues of its founder, Kyanzittha and the primate, Shin Arahan
