DD Writer’s Jam Fest: Round Robin 14_01

JamFestlogoOTB4

The difference between fiction and reality? Fiction has to make sense. ~Tom Clancy

I want to try something different today. And I should mention I will be here intermittently as I have some errands and adventures to attend to. (Did I mention I’m on vacation? 😉

Your RR challenge today, if you should decide to accept it, is to craft-write something from the prompts below. It can be a story or a poem or song lyrics or whatever. Or you can jumpstart a Round Robin with one, if you want (make sure you tell us if that’s what it is).

Shall we begin?

DD Writers Jam Fest: Mothership UPDATED FRI

JamFestlogoOTB4

We be jammin’ now, dharmanuts. Are you having fun yet? I am. This is my vacation. I know, I should Get A Life, but… heh. Okay.

I’ll maintain this Essay as a “Mothership”, meaning, I’ll add with UPDATES all day today, as Essays arrive. Links to DD Writers Jam Fest essays from Day One (yesterday) are below.

DD Writers Jam Fest… a five days Docudharma exclusive (!) Writer’s… uhm … focus group? no… er, Workshop? well, sorta, maybe. Free For All? hmmm, yah.

DATES: Wednesday through Sunday, August 12 – 16th, 2009

WHERE: Here, mostly, but also in your Brain, CPU or Journal

WHO: You. Everybody. Dharmanoids. Whoever wants in, jump in (as long as you play nice). You don’t have to be a “Writer”, no ID card or credentials art the door required. No Registration Fees either

HOSTED BY: moi but it’s a community thing

REWARDS? PRIZES? MEGA BONUSES? Er, no. Free ponies though!

Basically, the idea here is twofold:

ONE is… just write. Put “DD Writers Jam Fest” in your tags. You can also plop the Jam Fest image Banner into the body of your Essay if you like. Creative writing, or Instructional Essay or Op-Ed or whatever seems suitable to you. Have at it.

NOTE: Please drop a comment here to alert me if/when you publish a Jam Essay so I can link to it here.

TWO is the Round Robin.  The very first Round Robin is going on now! I’ll post a new RR for today in.a.bit…. this afternoon.

UPDATE: OKay so I spazzed out yesterday and didn’t post one. The All New and Improved Round Robin for today is now up. Come on over and jump in. You know you want to.

Here’s the links to the previous brainstorming, which might give you a little of background of how this Jam Fest came about: Part One and Part Two.

I’d like to add that Docudharma has some ongoing Series for writers (and readers) here … in particular, Robyn posts Muse in the Morning every morning. Robyn celebrates the Muses and encourages everyone to contribute their talent there anytime.

Deliver me from writers who say the way they live doesn’t matter. I’m not sure a bad person can write a good book. If art doesn’t make us better, then what on earth is it for?

Fiction is the truth inside the lie. ~ Stephen King

Okay here we go!

Round Robin… Pretty simple. Spontaneous. We’ll figure it out as we go. I think I’ll go ahead with One A Day, they will be ongoing, open ended. No end time imposed.  But, if you missed it or came in too late, there’s a new one on the way the next day. I’ll give them a theme or kick-off sentence or even a pic maybe of some kind.

PLEASE drop me an email if you have an opening line or kick off to suggest!  ladylibertine22 AT yahoo DOT com

Just pick up where the previous person left off. You can certainly write MORE than one sentence, but don’t get too carried away. It work best if you set the next person up for… something. No pressure. heh.

We’ll just see where it goes.

DD Writers Jam Fest: Kick Off Open Thread

JamFestlogoOTB4

Phew! Finally!!

Welcome to a few days of silliness and, hey, maybe I’ll learn something. Heh.

UPDATE (noon-ish CDT) ALERT! The very first Round Robin is now up!

DD Writers Jam Fest… a five days Docudharma exclusive (!) Writer’s… uhm … focus group? no… er, Workshop? well, sorta, maybe. Free For All? hmmm, yah.

Okay the main thing we’ve agreed to do is a Round Robin.  We’ll see if some of the other stuff comes together…. it’s up to us, you. Shake it up in the comments.

So what’s this Round Robin thing? Fun. Da Rulz TBA. Well. I forgot where I was for a minute. “Rules” are just the standard issue Rules of Docudharma: “be excellent to each other”.

A Way of Seeing (Weekend Anthropology)

I’ve thought for years, that Cultural Anthro needs to be a required course in the high school curriculum. Or at least included in a Rotation on Social/Cultural Issues of some sort.

It is the kind of Education we all really need more of. In some arena’s, “multicultural” stuff is “in”, it’s trendy, we see that with the Ethnicity Of The Month celebrations (which are pretty superficial). But something with a little more depth, a course plan that is well designed and well taught… well I can dream, can’t I? I think it would go a long way towards forwarding the R/Evolution we all feel is coming.

Ignorance is the enemy.

NOTE: No folktales tonight (as I’ve been doing in my previous essays, here’s the first one). I got tired of those … theye’re ALL about Greed! lol … I may return to them if/when I find any good ones or I get inspired.

Here’s an Opening Prayer.

DD Writers Jam Fest AUG 12 – 16: Part Deux

Hey who wants to work up a cool banner? UPDATE! Done! Yay! Thank you, On The Bus!!

Okay Part One of the brainstorming of this was here yesterday. I’m picking up with Part Deux today to give everyone a week’s notice in advance, and get into some details. Don’t worry, it’s not that big of a deal, it’s just my OCD showing. heh.

DD Writers: August Online Workshop

PLEASE NOTE (update): This is Part One. We’ve moved on to Part Two here. Hurry up! 🙂

Docudharma has such an abundance of talent.

Writers, ring in, speak up.

I have a scathingly brilliant idea. (Uh oh!)

sick of writing Pictures, Images and Photos

dive in…

Hmmm … 33

So I finally got around to trying one of these online test dealies… “Do You Have Asperger’s?”.

32 is the cut off. I scored a 33.

Eighty percent of those diagnosed with autism or a related disorder scored 32 or higher. The test is not a means for making a diagnosis, however, and many who score above 32 and even meet the diagnostic criteria for mild autism or Asperger’s report no difficulty functioning in their everyday lives.

I prefer the term “eccentric”.

NOTE: By no means do I mean any disrespect or anything toward individuals who truly struggle and suffer with this syndrome. It’s just something I’ve wondered about for a while now, about myself.

The First One’s Always Free … Weekend Anthropology

This is #4 of my little Mini Series on Weekend Anthroplogy. Here’s the link to last week’s edition..

My opening prayer tonight… I got it into my head to find a nice version of Simple Gifts in the toobs. There’s quite a few that are either churchy or Coplandy and just not hitting the mark for me. Then I discovered this. Exquisite.

I looked for a tale from Burma (Myanmar), as I was thinking of this news:

The court has postponed issuing a verdict in the trial of Burma’s democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi. It was scheduled to be announced Friday, but her lawyer says the court instead declared an unspecified “legal problem” had to first be decided … The court unexpectedly postponed the verdict until August 11. more about that here

Is this our “foot in the door”?

Good Saturday morning, I hope everyone takes the time to go read, if you missed them, several pieces (links below) on the new News of Jawad’s case, “Mohammed Jawad, the Afghan boy seized {2002} for allegedly throwing a grenade at U.S. troops and imprisoned at Guantanamo Bay ever since, may be on his way home to Afghanistan within three weeks.”

A federal judge, ruling for the first time that the U.S. government must release a detainee who once faced terrorism charges, on Thursday told officials to free a young Guantanamo prisoner by Aug. 21 or 22 so that he can return to his home country, Afghanistan.

snip

In a formal order expected to be issued later Thursday (7/30), Judge Huvelle said, the government will be given seven days to prepare a report to Congress that is now required before any Guantanamo detainee is to be freed.  Then, 15 days after that, the government must complete plans for Jawad’s transfer out of Guantanamo, the judge indicated.

By Aug. 24, a written report is due on Jawad’s status, the judge said. “By then, I hope he’s en route to Afghanistan,” she commented.

The blogosphere seems to be a-buzz, I haven’t looked at any MSM just yet.

ALERT: Glenn Greenwald promises a podcast today of an interview with ACLU’s lawyer:

I’m going to have a podcast interview posted here tomorrow {Saturday} morning with Jawad’s lawyer, the ACLU’s Jonathan Hafetz, but for now, I want to emphasize one point.  When Congress passed the Military Commissions Act in 2006, they explicitly denied the right of habeas corpus for Guantanamo detainees.  In other words, they tried to bar these detainees from having the very judicial hearings which are resulting in findings that there was no evidence to justify the accusations against them.

I will include more links for you below, but if you do nothing else this weekend, go read this in full (pdf) ((bring Kleenex)):

Closing Argument at Guantanamo: The Torture of Mohammed Jawad, Major David J.R. Frakt.

Free Speech in the Mall?

OKay so it’s a little quick hit over at Common Dreams with the headline of : “Bumper Sticker Battle”.

A battle over either free speech or racist exploitation, depending on your perspective, has erupted at North Carolina’s Concord Mills mall, …

Looks like a slam dunk to me.
