Funkalicious Friday: 1977-1982
Been doing some reminiscing after Michael Jackson’s death. These are some of the funky songs I liked in high school.

Soapblox Upgrade
Earlier this morning Soapblox upgraded our site and moved us to a new server location. There is currently a problem with the data on the User pages. Essays, comments and ratings are not showing up. I noticed this yesterday when pacified showed me a preview site and he did something to fix it right away. When I woke up this morning I saw the same thing on our live site and I immediately contacted him about it. As soon as he gets the message I assure you the problem will be fixed. All the data is still there.
UPDATE: The User data issue has been resolved.
A new problem seems to be that some people have lost their TU status. Please post below if you can no longer see the Hidden Comments link.
One of the new features that I have just implemented is using radio buttons for the comment ratings. I think this is a nice improvement over the drop-down list. There will be no more inadvertent Wrongs!
The YouTube embed problem has also been fixed. You no longer have to edit the code to remove these parameters: name=”allowscriptaccess” value=”always”
There will also be a change in how the URLs appear. Any essays prior to this date will still use the old format.
Please report any bugs you notice in Comments. Hopefully other than the user data problem there won’t be any issues.

There is no longer any doubt as to whether the Bush administration has committed war crimes. The only question that remains to be answered is whether those who ordered the use of torture will be held to account.

Ignore George!
Join the Ignore George Boycott
Thursday night Bush will give his farewell address to the nation. Do NOT watch or listen to the speech. The word is spreading across the web to boycott radio and TV stations during the broadcast.
What the heck is this IGNORE GEORGE boycott all about? The purpose of the IGNORE GEORGE boycott is to send a message. Bush believes he is and has been a great President, despite the reality that all of us have lived through over these past eight years. Let’s deliver low viewership ratings as a way of letting George know we don’t agree with him, his policies, or his silly ideas he has about doing a grand job leading this country. We will just ignore him to return the favor for ignoring all of us.
Right on. Who wants to listen to this dumbfuck anyway? Goodbye and good riddance!

Participate in Election Research
On behalf of a research team from the Psychology Department at New York University, I am posting this announcement. They are looking for volunteers to take an online survey about political attitudes and voting behavior.
Here is the link to the survey:
NYU Psych Survey
On that page you will find more information about the study.
If you agree to be in this study, you will be asked to do the following:
1) Complete a questionnaire about your background (age, gender, education, etc.)
2) Report your opinions on various political and social issues and rate how important those issues are to you
3) Evaluate the Presidential candidates (Obama and McCain) on a number of traits and positionsWe are interested in learning about your opinions throughout the course of the election, so we also ask you to participate in three bimonthly follow-up surveys that will be shorter but similar in content to the one you are about to complete. You are not required to do the follow-up surveys if you complete this survey, but we encourage you to do so.
Participation in the first session of this study will involve 15-20 minutes of your time. If you agree to participate in the follow-up surveys, each will take an additional 15 minutes. The total time for participation in all four biweekly survey sessions will not exceed an hour.
Also, if you participate in the followup surveys you can win $100.
If you choose to provide your contact information (your email address), you will entered into a random drawing for 2 prizes of $100 for participating in the survey; if you withdraw before the end of the study, you will not be entered into the drawing. You will be entered into new drawing for $100 each time you complete a follow-up survey (up to four times total).
If you have questions about the survey or your participation they include contact info on that page as well.
By request I am turning off the comments for this essay. They don’t want the sample to be biased by people talking about the survey here.

Don’t Cry For Me Wasilla
It won’t be easy, you’ll think it strange When I try to explain the Bush Doctrine and the reason I fired Walt Monegan You won’t believe me I wanted it to happen, but then I changed So I chose Jesus Don’t cry for me Wasilla As for fortune, and as for fame They are illusions Don’t cry for me Wasilla Have I lied too much? |
