Writing in the Raw: Bring ’em Home, Obama
You don’t need to “refine” your position on Iraq.
You don’t need to leave “residual forces” in Iraq.
You don’t need to visit Iraq to “consult” with Bush’s highly decorated lap dog:
A lap dog with decorations is still a lap dog.
Stop posturing, stop pandering, start keeping your promises, Obama.
Bring ’em home . . .

This Was Once a Garden . . .
What happened here,
As the blog I love disappeared?
I found an empty garden, among the flagstones here.
Who lived here?
They must have been some gardeners who cared a lot,
Who weeded out the tears and grew a good crop.
But now it all looks strange.
It’s tragic how one cloudburst can damage so much grain.

A Series of Dreams
I was thinking . . . of a series of dreams . . .
I was thinking of a series of dreams,
Where nothing comes up to the top.
Everything stays down where it’s wounded,
And comes to a permanent stop . . .
We the People are down, we’re wounded, not mortally yet, but BushCo and Congress are squeezing the trigger for the kill shot. The rule of law has come to a stop. Nothing comes up to the top. The gutter we’re in is so deep no one can even see the top anymore, much less get there.
Just thinking . . . of a series of dreams . . .
Wasn’t thinking of anything specific,
Like in a dream, when someone wakes up and screams . . .
Like when a soldier with PTSD wakes up and screams
Like when a Katrina survivor wakes up and screams.
Like when an innocent Gitmo prisoner wakes up and screams.
Like when 20 million Iraqis wake up and scream.

Through the Darkest of Nights: Testament XXIV
Every few days over the next several months I will be posting installments of a novel about life, death, war and politics in America since 9/11. Through the Darkest of Nights is a story of hope, reflection, determination, and redemption. It is a testament to the progressive values we all believe in, have always defended, and always will defend no matter how long this darkness lasts. But most of all, it is a search for identity and meaning in an empty world.
Naked and alone we came into exile. In her dark womb, we did not know our mother’s face; from the prison of her flesh have we come into the unspeakable and incommunicable prison of this earth. Which of us has known his brother? Which of us has looked into his father’s heart? Which of us has not remained prison-pent? Which of us is not forever a stranger and alone? ~Thomas Wolfe
All installments are available for reading here on Docudharma’s Series page, and also here on Docudharma’s Fiction Page, where refuge from politicians, blogging overload, and one BushCo outrage after another can always be found.

It’s Going To Happen
According to Stephen C. Webster at Raw Story:
“Former CIA officer Ray McGovern states that he believes ‘a perfect storm seems to be gathering in late summer or early fall,’ when the Bush administration and allies in Israel will launch attacks against Iran. “This time it will be largely the Air Force’s show, punctuated by missile and air strikes by the Navy,” writes McGovern. “Israeli-American agreement has now been reached at the highest level; the armed forces planners, plotters and pilots are working out the details.”
In his editorial at Anti-war.com Ray McGovern warns:
Emerging from a 90-minute White House meeting with President George W. Bush on June 4, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said the two leaders were of one mind: “We reached agreement on the need to take care of the Iranian threat. I left with a lot less question marks [than] I had entered with regarding the means, the timetable restrictions, and American resoluteness to deal with the problem. George Bush understands the severity of the Iranian threat and the need to vanquish it, and intends to act on that matter before the end of his term in the White House.”

Protecting Pelosi
Nancy Pelosi is a traitor. She’s complicit in war crimes, she’s betrayed the Constitution, she’s betrayed America, she’s betrayed us all.
Cindy Sheehan is running against Pelosi and deserves massive Netroots support.
But is she getting Netroots support?
NO.
Is she getting support from the largest progressive blog in the world?
NO.
Supporting her candidacy is not allowed there. She’s not a Democrat. She’s not a useless fucking coward with a (D) after her name, so she doesn’t deserve to even be mentioned on Daily Kos. Kos the Decider has decreed that no one can support her on his blog.
Pelosi is protecting war criminals and Zuniga is protecting Pelosi.

The Dream of the Proud
The Dream of the Proud. It’s the belief in American exceptionalism, it’s the conviction that America possesses inherent moral superiority, it’s the assurance that we are a special nation blessed by God and are thus above reproach. The Dream of the Proud has been expressed in many ways and has had many names. It’s been called Manifest Destiny, it’s been called the American Way, it’s been called the Project for the New American Century.
The Dream of the Proud is a deadly and dangerous Dream. It’s generated American aggression for more than two centuries. It triggered America’s invasion of Canada in 1813, it triggered America’s attack on Mexico in 1845, it triggered America’s genocidal conquest of Naïve Americans, it triggered our seizure of Cuba and the Philippines from Spain in 1898, it triggered murderous American alliances with tyrants whose names are synonymous with evil-Batista, Somoza, Suharto, Pinochet, Marcos, the Shah of Iran.
The Dream of the Proud has inflicted misery and suffering on the poor and the powerless from Nicaragua to Najaf, but most Americans still haven’t awakened from that depraved Dream. John McCain sure as hell hasn’t, neither have most Republicans.
The Dream of the Proud is deadlier and more dangerous than ever, it’s been incorporated and privatized, marketed and militarized, it pervades American society and culture, it’s the foundation of foreign and domestic policy in Washington, so we’re trapped in it. The Dream of the Proud has yet to end, it may never end, it’s manifested in NAFTA, in CAFTA, in SOFA. It’s pervasive in the programming of NBC, CBS, and ABC, it’s the soma of the corporate oligarchy’s Brave New World, Americans cannot escape from it, our politics is immersed in it, our politicians live and breathe it.
For decades, too many Americans have turned away from reality, they won’t listen to the pleas for justice of the Third World victims our corporations exploit, most Americans still believe we are morally superior to other nations, despite the brazen conquest of Iraq by war criminals who are still in power five years later, despite the damning evidence of Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo, despite the systematic ethnic cleansing of New Orleans, despite a nationwide orgy of crime and corruption throughout our political, economic, and defense establishments unsurpassed in depravity since the days of Nero and Caligula.

Writing in the Raw: Blown Away by the Idiot Wind
Bob Dylan.
Blood on the Tracks.
Idiot Wind.
Someone’s got it in for me, they’re planting stories in the press.
Bill Clinton knows what that feels like, so does Al Gore, so does John Kerry, so does Barack Obama, so does every Democrat who won’t kneel down and kiss the bloody ring of corporate power.
An idiot wind has been blowing across this country for a generation. It never stops. It gusts every time the lips of a Republican start flapping, it blows harder every time the lips of corporate media hacks flap in praise of Republican lip flapping.
Brace yourself, Obama. They’ll say you shot a man named Gray, and took his wife to Italy. Drudge will say it, then Limbaugh will say it, then O’Reilly and Hume and Hannity will say it, then the networks will examine this new ELECTABILITY problem you seem to have, very seriously and responsibly, as they always do, then a million idiots will vote for McCain because they feel very strongly that someone who shot a man and ran off with his wife to Italy isn’t fit to be President.
The Idiot Wind howlers will be howling at full force between now and November . . .
Idiot wind, blowing every time you move your mouth,
Blowing down the backroads headin’ south.
Idiot wind, blowing every time you move your teeth,
You’re idiots, babe.
It’s a wonder that you still know how to breathe.
