Pony Party: Sunday music retrospective rerun

The Point!

Everything’s Got ‘Em

Pony Party: Snow day in Tennessee

For those of you who experience actual winter… snow is something to be amused by, enjoyed, tolerated, and exasperated with when the April storms hit.

When it hits in the Memphis and surrounding area there is mass panic, a city shut down, and hours of news devoted to showing ultra special Doppler radar of the offending guest and stern warnings about staying inside when the two inches fall. The thing is since there is very little in the way of snow removal, it can be an adventure.

Most of these pictures are pretty mundane….

Pony Party: Memphis in May

Got nothing to do during the first week of May? Consider the Beale Street Music Festival. It actually is NOT on Beale Street but on the grounds of Tom Lee Park. It isn’t strictly a “blues festival” either, probably because it didn’t make enough money so there are pop and rock acts.

Have a look at the line up here. I am planning to see  the following for certain: Keb’mo, Pintetop Perkins, Michael Franti, Aretha Franklin. In general how it works is that there is a smaller “Blues tent” and I have rarely seen a bad performer there. There is a stage with music that is retro/classic/R&B ( think middle aged people)and a stage for young people that generally showcases local rap/rock/whatever groups.

It always rains or it is unseasonably hot and you get a sun burn, and by the third day it has a nasty smell. Beale street is always a zoo beyond zoos during the festival. Traffic which is not bad in Memphis as a rule is horrible, parking will be expensive.

However, if you were interested in coming, I have a floor you could crash on. In the past I have seen great performances from: Chaka Khan, Jerry Lee Lewis, Preston Shannon, B-52s, Parliament, John Legend, Black Crowes, a bunch of bluesmen/women I was not familiar with.

I will also treat for ribs and/or BBQ and drag you to a local tourist spot.

You don’t even really have to hang out with me the whole time because I am on the geeky side and I don’t actually live in Memphis but a quick drive in.

Please don’t rec pony party, hang out and chit chat and then go read one of the excellent offerings on our recent and rec’d list.

Pony Party: Your Morning Art

Do you feel all sophisticated from the early morning “art attack”, I know I do.

What can I say, my mother liked Carole King back in the day. I suspect the main reason I jumped so quickly onto the punk bandwagon when it first came out was that mu mother was a big folkie. I still like Gordon Lightfoot.

Please don’t rec pony party, hang out and chit chat and then go read the excellent offerings on our recent and rec’d list.

Pony Party, Phone it in Friday

My “adopted” son, one of ‘thing 1’s high school friends who needed more mothering than he was getting at home, is directing a production of “Bare” (also known as “Bare, a Pop Opera”) for the University of Delaware’s Community Theater Group.  The wiki page synopsizes better than I, but it’s basically a musical/opera set in a catholic boarding school, where our cast of characters deals with the usual gamut of teenaged social angst.  The primary plot line introduces us to Jason and Peter who are very much in love and very much in the closet…

…in the spirit of “phone it in friday”…

This is “See Me”, a phone call between Peter and his mother.  He’s trying to come out, she’s in denial…

Pony Party…..Lined!

Thursday,  I  Think  Seriously,  About  Stupid  Shit

Yesterday in ek’s Morning News  the 51st story says happiness is inherited… at least in part.

Well what about the other part?

Pony Party, a few fries short of a happy meal….

According to multiple blog sources, John Coleman…founder and one-time chairman of The Weather Channel…spoke at the 2008 International Conference on Climate Change, and threatened to sue Al Gore and other “global warming alarmists”.

I quoted this from the BMI (i know!!) article linked here: http://www.businessandmedia.or…

Coleman also told the audience his strategy for exposing what he called “the fraud of global warming.” He advocated suing those who sell carbon credits, which would force global warming alarmists to give a more honest account of the policies they propose.

“[I] have a feeling this is the opening,” Coleman said. “If the lawyers will take the case – sue the people who sell carbon credits. That includes Al Gore. That lawsuit would get so much publicity, so much media attention. And as the experts went to the witness stand and testified, I feel like that could become the vehicle to finally put some light on the fraud of global warming.”

(emphasis mine)

There are numerous quotes scattered throughout the different blog reports, but i haven’t found the transcript…..yet…

Pony Party: Short Animation

From Smashing Magazine 25 Brilliant Animated Short Movies

Take a break and enjoy a videosnack.  All are 2-5 minutes long.  Here are 4 that I liked.  The first 2 are solemn and sad.  The second 2 are cute and funny.   Your choice depending whether you want to laugh or cry. Click link above for more.

Space Alone

Pony Party, random madness

Ok, so I’m not loving my custom widget.  I’ll do better before the tourney rolls around.  Here is one option for online brackets…they’re probably not postable here, but we could start a group and link to them.  Looks like the ‘group’ will just be me and ucc anyways….

Pony Party, “in the weeds”

My Monday was quiiiiiiite a Monday….

So unless I can get back to the computer Tuesday morning (well, later Tues morning, as it’s 1:00 am now) and put up a better pony….

Today’s morning pony is empty…. 🙁

Hopefully, you’ll never read this because I’ll be motivated after only a few hours of sleep and getting the kids off to school…delete this..and put up a better pony.  Hopefully….

Pony Party: I’m FIRED!

It seems that I really have a case of the Mondays: I forgot to post my Monday morning Pony Party. Sorry! But I worked all weekend, so I have an excuse, right? Right?

… Or will I be fired from the Monday 9 am time slot? Bring on the boiling brine!

And I have a conflict during my 3 pm time slot, at least for the next 6 weeks.

::Sigh:: What’s a poor, pathetic pickle to do?

Anyway, I hope y’all are doing well. It’s raining pooches and pooties here in Vancouver. That’s not helping my mood much. But, at least the days are getting longer!
