Pony Party: Worst Meals Ever! Reprisal

Okay, I got nuthin’ new this afternoon, so in case you missed it the other two times, here it is again:

Cross-posted from Top Comments at GOS and earlier today chez buhdy.

I was having a tough time finding a topic for my Top Comments diary (on the GOS, as linked above). My Eureka! moment was when I looked through the Spam folder in my email account, just for laughs. “Spam,” I thought, “what a truly horrid food substance.” And then I had it! I should write about all the bad food I’ve eaten in my 30-something years on the planet.

Having been born in the 70s, I’ve had my fair share of food with low nutritional value. The 70s and 80s seemed to be the era of junk food, and my family was far from immune. I’m not sure if it was a matter of convenience or whether it was because junk food was cheaper. Both are reasonable possibilities: my mom was the parent who worked AND did everything around the house (until we kids were old enough for household chores) and our family didn’t have a lot of money.

Pony Party: More Friday Night Photos

As I was driving home from taking pictures, I asked myself whether there would be some time in the future when light displays would be considered too luxurious for public consumption. That is a part of the reason I like taking pictures: I wonder if I am witnessing the passing of the world we live in. When I am old and no longer productive, will the pictures I take be the memories I drift on as I reach my final destination? Will the world I passed through simply be a memory for many of us? Will the children I saw delighting over the displays be forced to survive in a much meaner one of continuous shortages, grief and struggle, over the last few remaining resources?

Pony Party: Friday Night Photos

Our local zoo has an annual Christmas light display, so I decided to check it out.

I am in truth, not a super duper Christmas person. I haven’t started my own personal war on Christmas, I am just a bit ambivalent. The other night a work colleague was stressing out about whether she had gotten enough presents for her kids. Some of them will be from Mommy and Daddy, some from Santa. Another work colleague has an adult niece and nephew who are pretty irresponsible, through out the year she is always loaning them money and if it weren’t for her, the kids wouldn’t have a Christmas. She rarely gets a thank you. I wonder if the kids will ever realize when they are older just who bought them most of their gifts.

The zoo was mainly full of families with young kids and some teenagers looking for something to do. It was nice to see that in a world of hyper fast imagery and video games that kids still like lights.

The entrance was graced with fake snow. If it really snowed in Memphis, even an inch or two, Memphians would be galloping through the grocery stores acting as if it was Armageddon, not appreciating lights.

Pony Party:Cat Tales

I am too lazy to write anything. I am lame. I embrace lamehood like a badge of distinction.

In the you tube commentary, in this little Russian animation, most people were angry at the cat. I thought it was a bit more complicated than that, more of a Yin Yang, love and pain can mix together in a potent and confusing recipe. Both characters learn a lesson I think.

I like this one because this little cat has persistence even if his goal is a bit macabre.

I will end this with music. Hope you are waking up feeling rested.

Please don’t rec pony party, hang out chit chat and then go read the excellent offerings on our recent and rec’d list.
