PONY PARTY… hay, are you happy?
As economists, psychologists and biologists try to determine what makes a person happy or unhappy, one factor stands out as especially powerful. To a large degree, it seems, happiness is inherited.

Pony Party: Tuesday Morning Mutterings
There’s a website I visit from time to time called Famous Birthdays, where you can see who shares your birthday (Ice Cube, Courtney Cox, James Belushi, and Waylon Jennings, among others, for me). You can also do other cutsie things like have your fortune told and send a greeting card.
I was really intrigued by today’s birthday list….for some reason it just seemed like a really unlikely cast of characters:

The Locker Room
Welcome sports fans!
It is my fondest wish and the deepest desire of my heart to see the Flyers win a Stanley Cup have a weekly sports discussion essay. While I’m not well-versed in every sport at every level, I would love for us to have a forum to discuss professional, college, amateur, and even our own involvement in local sports, as well as the personalities that people them. And while I’m clearly posting such an essay right at this very minute (or, have posted, if you’ve come later), I’m not particular on who posts it, or when…only that we know where to look for it so we can all participate.
You could liken it to the current training-camp sitch the Philadelphia Flyers find themselves in, as described in the Yahoo!News story: Flyers have several candidates to fill vacant captaincy. Here it’s a lot like in that locker room. The person wearing the “C”, or posting the essay, won’t be doing all of the work. Sami Kapanen sums it up well, I think (from the above-linked article).
“If you have a C on the jersey, it’s not just up to him,” he said. “It’s a team game and everybody needs to bring something in. You can’t ask for too much from one player.”

Pony Party: Pickle Monday Part II
Hi again! Light Emitting Pickle here to bring you the most recent open thread. First, a few words about Pickle Pony Parties:
Please do not recommend a Pony Party when you see one. There will be another along in a few hours.
Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, I’m looking for inspiration for what to post next week in my contribution to the Pony Party threads. Because, in the unlikely event that it is not painfully, excruciatingly obvious, this isn’t much of a diary. So, check out the poll and feel free to give other ideas in the comments!

Pony Party: Random Relationships Edition
I am full of illogical streaks and inconsistencies broad enough to drive a semi-truck through. Sometimes I like to believe that it is the philosophical burps that lunge forward, that define me. I like , no love hockey, but football mostly bores me. I like Bluegrass and honky tonk, but that “pop country” stuff makes me want to get an enema. I like muffins and bread pudding but stick a raisin in either of those and my head will explode.

Pony Party: We’re Awake Now
I am going to be overly literal for this edition of Pony Party. Some of you might, like me enjoy, taking pictures. This Pony Party is an invite to all of you to share some of your favorite pictures. I have had my coffee, I am awake and kicking, and eager be to be cheery and annoying.
You know, like Katie Couric, only poor, with no television audience, and possibly slightly more coherent politics. Her problem is not that she is super-establishment, she is too blurry and unaware for that.

Pony Party: Your Morning Grouch
We get up fairly early but if there isn’t any coffee in the house, panic, chaos, and a sense of impending doom fill the house. In fact, when I go to visit dear old Mom who drinks coffee as an occasional treat, I have to remember to bring my own coffee. I am originally from Southern Ontario where a chain called Tim Horton’s is king. My husband was pretty astonished to notice that not far from my mother’s house were two Tim Horton’s directly across the road from one another.
