Don Siegelman Needs Our Help
Don Siegelman’s fight for justice against the false charges made against him by elements in the Bush Administration reaches a critical point tomorrow. His appeal goes before the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals Tuesday, 12/9/08. We hope the 11th Circuit will throw out the false charges against Siegelman and clear this good man.
But Don needs our help. He needs to raise another $30,000 toward his legal fees. Not only for Don, but the magnitude of this case and it’s relation to the firings of attorneys across the country could blow the lid off the case for numerous Justice Department crimes of this past and passing administration.
Don Siegelman isn’t just fighting for his freedom — he’s fighting for the integrity of our democracy. I hope you’ll join me in supporting his legal defense fund today, before his appeal hearing tomorrow.
Al Gore has sent a letter on this. Find:

We Must Keep Barack’s Back
Barack Obama’s transition team has announced house meetings for the coming weekend, Dec. 13 & 14, to discuss policies and give our ideas. This seems important. This is an opportunity for us. I urge Dharmaniacs to attend. In addition to buhdy’s petition, this seems another avenue to try.
The email from David Plouffe, Obama’s campaign and transition team manager, arrived just as I had reached the low point of despair over Barack’s appointments. How can one be optimistic for a foreign policy team of Robert Gates, James Jones, Hillary Clinton, etc.?
But the announcement of the meetings raised me up and encouraged me once again to make the effort. The meetings are nationwide. There are at least 100 meetings in the SF Bay Area. I’ve signed up for three, hoping that I might have some influence, open some eyes, perhaps have my opinions changed as well. It will be a mighty task to keep Barack’s back from the Faustian-Corporate pressures which have ruled the “slumberland of DC” for lo these several decades.
David Plouffe’s announcement follows below the fold:

Caribou Barbie Speculation
Due to her obvious gifts I believe it to be important to discover the true identity of Caribou Barbie. I don’t want to expose docudharma to a possible law suit over identity theft.
I make note that Caribou Barbie has been called by various names — Cb, Barbie, CarB, Carrie and others which I may have missed. But the most telling trait is her profound percociousity! She is extremely witty, endulging in an advanced form of satire through her (or his) obviously deep familiarity with centuries of world (especially English) literature. Additonally, she displays a comfortable facility with regional dialect which is vaguely reminiscent of a background in dramatic arts.
She is also a tad randy, as demonstrated by some of her/his more off-un-colour jokes.
So I have initiated this contest in order to reveal the real Caribou Barbie. Please register your choices in comments. Is it actually Tina Fey? Maureen Dowd? Barbara Boxer? Or is it an alias for one of us dharmaniacs? Do record your ideas below. And thank you for helping to expose this hoax, if that is truly what it is.
ek hornbeck- We don’t have many rules around here, but the ban on outing people is one of the most serious. No, my snark meter is perfectly intact, but I don’t feel I can be fair and not make note of this.
I have modified the title and added this commentary, in part to show that the powers of Admins to regulate this behavior are really quite considerable. Other than that I’m not contemplating any further action unless it becomes necessary.
If you have a problem with my judgement in this feel free to take it up with buhdy, I did not consult him or any other Admin.

Just the Beginning: A Note from Bernie Sanders
I received a note from Bernie Sanders yesterday to say thanks for supporting and signing on to his letter to Secretary Paulson.
Sanders is clear in saying this is not the end, but the beginning; and he asks people to remain involved. In the months ahead we need to correct the many flaws in the final passage of H.R. 1424, The Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008 as we all know this is not stabilization at all but, rather, a very volatile weapon of mass destruction which could wreck much greater havoc at any moment.
Nevertheless, so long as we are all still here, I think it is of value to do all we can to try to sustain and restore life. In this matter, Sanders wants to continue to work to implement his 4 point plan for the economy:
1) A temporary, 10% surcharge on the ultra-rich.
2) Extensive re-regulation and oversight.
3) A WPA type program of job creation in infrastructure repair & sustainable energy
4) Limits on business size so they are not “too big to fail.”

Pirate Jenny and the Single Malt Revolution
A ditty has occupied my head incessantly, continuously, importantly, for 2 days now, ever since Valtin mentioned something about watching it all come down from the vantage point aboard a boat, with single malt, in his essay, about how we are being force-fed shit, which also mentioned Berthold Brecht. I’ve not been able to think of hardly anything else, except for Edger and Magic. Pirate Jenny stomps out of Dreigrossenoper and into my head with the certainty of the stileto-staccato stride of Ahab. I think it is my salvation.
And for that reason, I must say…follow me below the fold…

Bernie Sanders’ Sane Solution: Between Bailout and Collapse
Independent Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders has proposed what looks to me like the most sane and reasonable solution to our financial mess.
Instead of being between a rock and a hard place, between a fraudulent bailout of the criminal banksters and a total collapse, Great Depression 2, destruction of the financial systems of the U.S. and the world, we have the middle ground sanity of Bernie Sanders. His proposal for, if not solving, at least helping to heal our dire financial straits is the best I’ve seen.
Wall Street Bailout – 09/26/2008
There is little public support for President Bush’s $700 billion bailout. Just 30 percent support Bush’s package, according to an Associated Press poll released Friday. More than 4,000 of you have taken our survey, and those results are even more remarkable. Are you confident that taxpayers would be treated fairly if Congress and the Bush administration agree on a bailout? You aren’t. Do you think a bailout would help the economy? No. Do you favor a surtax on individuals who make more than $500,000 a year and couples earning more than $1 million to pay for a Wall Street bailout? More than 91 percent agree with the proposal by Senator Bernie Sanders. What’s more, as of late Friday, more than 40,000 (as of late Friday)of you co-signed Bernie’s letter to Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson suggesting a tax on the very wealthy.
Follow below the fold to learn more and see if you want to sign on and support Sanders’ proposal.

A Heartbeat Away Is Not a Distraction
Many people say that talking about Sarah Palin is a waste of time, a distraction. I strongly deisagree. The Republicans have used Palin, successfully I might add, to distract the public from 1) the lack of excitement of candidate McCain, 2) the paucity of any new ideas or issues from the Republicans, and 3) the wholesale boiler-plate duplication of Bush-NeoCon failed policies.
But Palin aspires to be one heartbeat away from becoming the most powerful person on the planet. A full examination of who she is, what she thinks, believes and does is in no way a distraction. It is imperative to study, research, discuss and ask hard questions about her qualifications for the position. We must not be sidetracked from fully vetting Palin in a manner the McCain camp did not. And we must not be turned away from this pursuit by attacks that our examinations are sexist.

GENERAL STRIKE — 9/11/08 — & extended…
We have just a little less than 3 weeks to get this out now. That’s okay, I’m reminded of a story about a great feast gathering back in the 1800s of native folks in the northern lands now called canada, who never communicated at all about what they were going to bring as food for the celebration. But somehow, it all ended up in a perfectly balanced array of courses and dishes! It can happen!
Now it’s our turn. Now it’s our chance.
Support the General Strike effort.
From the vote strike web
This call for a General Strike is a non-violent, peaceful, and powerful means to send a message to D.C. It is not meant to hurt the country in any way but to remove those who have.
The ONLY way to stop those who would bleed our nation dry, dismantle our constitution, and dissolve our national sovereignty is to say
I will not work for you, buy from you, fight for you, or die for you, until the
criminals are gone from the halls of our government.EXIT STRATEGY: GENERAL STRIKE
We the people…The Constitution of The United States of America spells out in the first line where the power of our great democracy lies. Unfortunately we the people have allowed the power to slip away to special interest, lobbyist, corporations and career politicians. It is time to reclaim our democracy from the people that are destroying it. Thomas Jefferson said that “All tyranny needs to gain a foothold is for people of good conscience to remain silent” now is the time for all people to be heard.
…SNIP…
Career politicians will do and say anything to keep their power. Power corrupts even those with the best intentions.
…SNIP…
The General Strike is a national call to action, from citizens to other citizens.
It is not about a single issue. It is not an anti-war protest, a gas price protest, a civil rights protest, an election fraud protest. It is not about torture, surveillance, corporate media, or the environment. This strike is about all these issues and more
The strike targets key issues facing the American public, issues that have not been addressed in any meaningful way by any branch of government.

Nancy Pelosi Needs Our Help – Call a Press Conference!
Appearing on “The View” TV show July 28th, Speaker Pelosi admitted that she did not know of a single crime that had been committed by the Bush Administration. Joy Behar, one of the 5 co-hosts on the show, asked Pelosi why she had taken Impeachment off the table and continues to keep it off. Pelosi responded by reiterating how important it is to stay focused on the many domestic issues requiring our attention and not to get distracted by such issues as Impeachment. She went on to say that…
If somebody had a crime that the President had committed, that would be a different story.
You can watch a You Tube clip of both Pelosi on The View” and snips from the HOR JUd comm hearings “Shame on Pelosi”. Be sure to watch to the end for a great surprise.
How sad! Pelosi obviously needs our help; we must refresh her memory and the memory of “we the people”, who might have been confused by Pelosi’s lapse of consciousness.
Compassion for her condition restrains me from being sarcastic when I ask, “Where has Madam Speaker been for the past 7 years? Was Rip Van Pelosi asleep and therefore unable to read Kucinich’s Articles of Impeachment?”
The time is right; Ron Suskind has just come out with new allegations of Bush crimes and Impeachable offenses. These can all come together by holding a Press conference to repair this dangerous-RIP-loss of awareness.
Suggestions for repair below the fold–

Nancy Pelosi Needs Our Help – Call a Press Conference
Appearing on “The View” TV show July 28th, Madam Speaker virtually admitted that she did not know of a single crime that had been committed by the Bush Administration. This is most sad. Obviously, Pelosi needs our help; we must refresh her memory and the memory of “we the people.”
I don’t mean to be sarcastic. but it is very tempting to ask where she has been for the past 7 years,
