Bill Clinton? He was ALWAYS a Republican

this is a short one… but none the easier to digest, i’m sure.

bearers of bad news

When the whole George Bush/BushCo thing happened, I was pretty much banned, among friends and family, from discussion of events in the years 2000-2004.

After 2004, the Iraq war cracked the perception of even busy busy people that things weren’t, um, going right. Not to mention the freaky weather and crazy gas prices. It must be that Bush is stupid. That’s it, they thought. It’s simple.. No. That’s not it. Bush is not stupid or compassionate or interested in the United States of America. And this is far from simple.

It’s one thing to get people seeing and even agreeing with you that the president for whom they voted is making a boatload of bad decisions. It’s totally another thing to suggest to these busy people that fascism has emerged in America. Because, and by the way, about that you are definitely NOT right. You, my friend, are a radical. And all your blah blah blah::: oncoming depression, water wars, peak oil, pandemics, broken government, broken bill of rights… becomes more threatening that any eventual occurrence of these things.

No. You are not only NOT right, but you are simply a downer. The bearer of bad news nobody wants to hear. And you know why? Because you don’t offer a credible way out.

Pony Party: War

Pony Party: Going, Going….

… but not gone quite yet.

The movers were here. Mostly everything made it. Movers were great guys.

I’m drinking wine.  I’m exhausted.  I can’t think of anything else.

What’s going on with you… and yes, I know the pony is late.

Don’t rec the pony…

writing in the raw: little league opening day

I am busy finalizing things for my move tomorrow. So I thought 73rd might get a kick out of the essay I wrote at dKos last April…

The nephews are both on little league teams and their seasons opened today. This is the second time I’ve done the little league thing: about 15 years ago with stepchildren and now with my sister’s kids. and i swear to god, it was like I had stepped into a time warp, like I had left everything the way it was all those years ago.

No More Excuses

Dear Eliot Spitzer, Lefty Blogsphere, and Democrats:

I’m no longer willing to tolerate this from people in office.

i’m not talking about sex. i’m talking about a guy who represented the State of New York and fought organized crime. and what… he turns around and contributes to it? is a customer and enabler of it?

not to mention: Eliot, you must be stupid. yes. stupid. why not use cash instead of complicated money transactions (if in fact that’s what happened). why compound it???? i do concede the human trafficking thing is ridiculous, since even hookers can still travel freely from place-to-place, no?

but really… how do we swallow this from a guy who fought these exact kinds of people running organized criminal operations. and he went after them like an avenging angel: no mercy at all. no, it has nothing to do with sex. but all of the corruption that attends organized crime. and that’s what he did… contribute to organized crime.

Though his signature issue was pursuing Wall Street misdeeds, as attorney general Mr. Spitzer also had prosecuted at least two prostitution rings as head of the state’s organized crime task force.

no. i don’t want a governor who is less bad. i want us to start sending a message LOUD AND CLEAR: no more of this shit. we need energy focused on our very serious problems.

no more people in office telling others how to live and talking about justice or god or patriotism or the constitution and then flaunting it in our faces. because the rules don’t apply to them.

fuck that. i’m done with that. and if i was wise enough then, i would have held Clinton to the same standards. he lied. under oath. he should have paid the same price i would have paid.

we need to level the playing field. these people are citizens. not gods. not above the law.

done. with. it. no more excuses.

time to hold ALL politicians accountable. because when we let Nixon get away with it, we sent the wrong fucking message. when we let reagan skate, we sent the wrong fucking message. when we let clinton get away with lying under oath and making excuses for him, we sent the wrong fucking message.

if we want to stop BushCo and that ilk going forward, then we need to make sure our laws and/or ethical standards are applied equally and justly to those holding political office, billionaires, theocrats, and corporatists. and when we go after the corporatists et al, let’s make sure we start putting men behind bars instead of just women (Martha and Leona come to mind… oh and Linda Bloodworth too).

god::: i’m tired of this crap.

happy 6 months docudharma!

I Saw the Tabloids Today

PhotobucketI saw tabloids today. In the convenience store. In the drug store. In the supermarket.  All about Obama and his terrorist ties and homosexual liaison and god knows what else. And tomorrow? Move over Britney because tomorrow, Eliot Sptizer will get skewered in the great tabloid void.

I have to tell you. I was overcome with sadness. An unbearable sadness at these affronts in full-blown color, all screaming and prominently displayed. How did it come to this? How did we devolve to this?

We finally have a woman and a man of color in serious contention for the presidency of the United States and we’ve managed to make it cheap.

All the while the press plays hand maiden to a war criminal who, along with all the others of his ilk, are responsible for destruction and death on a scale hard to comprehend. It isn’t just Bush and it just isn’t Iraq. It’s Africa. It’s rain forests. It’s the oceans and plankton. It’s whaling and polar bears. And pushing for open season on wolves.

God loves you and, btw, sex is filthy…

Life in Lubbock, Texas, taught me two things: One is that God loves you and you’re going to burn in hell. The other is that sex is the most awful, filthy thing on earth and you should save it for someone you love.

Butch Hancock

The way I see it, the crises we face in this country and the world are symptoms of a power structure gone wrong. Way wrong.

We, the citizens, need to reconfigure the power structure. In order to do that, we need to understand how the invasion of theocrats, outsourcing of essential governmental functions, mega media ownership concentrated in the hands of corporatists, and global corporate domination/trade agreements have shaped the world right now: the war in Iraq, health care, education, taxes, war, poisonous industrial processes, environment and climate change, energy, et al. While all these issues are, on their own, daunting and urgent, none of these issues will be resolved without repairing our governmental infrastructure. Period. The story tonight is about the theocrats’ impact on our deteriorating social structures.

Divine Transmissions

PhotobucketWhat is most disturbing… about the Bush administration, is not merely its devout corporatism, but the way in which it uses religion in the service of the corporatist agenda.

It does so in a way that explicitly identifies the Bush agenda with God’s, and suggests that Bush’s every step is divinely inspired. Bush asks his followers to stick with him as an act of faith — he’s a good man with good advisors and he prays and he’s not Clinton, so he must be right.

It became apparent early on in George Bush’s presidency that he was facilitating the infiltration of our government by theocrats. Theocrats: evangelicals, but ramped up and with one looming objective: to legislate their version of control Christianity.

Theocrats are foot soldiers of the corporatists, a relationship that delivers a one-two punch. Social control satiates theocrats, while corporatists run everything else. And they all want it run brutally. Until the only thing left for us is the desperate hope that God will save us in the next life… as long as we subscribe to certain behaviors in this one. What a fucking set up.

Pony Party: from masslass: your “awwwwwww” for the day; it’s really cute

temporary spring

invisible air

gathers itself

blasting awake

me…

sleeping snow bound

in winter burial grounds

wrapped, like a papoose,

in

thick

gauze-gray days

until the damned

frozen sunlight

melts me down

to bare ground

i’m uncovered

me, scorched and screaming

it’s spring

time to be agitated

confused

forget death

take a breath

i am unsure of this

light

clear and bright

its warmth, a cold bite,

unsettles me

in a way

winter never does
