Where is the Special Prosecutor?

RealNews commentator, Pepe Escobar asks the question, “Where is the Special Prosecutor?”
Note an important point Pepe makes about how this will reflect on Obama if other countries must tackle the war crimes’ issue.
In their TV appearances, both Bush and Cheney attempt to make it appear that Khalid Sheikh Mohammed was an isolated incidence of waterboarding. CIA Chief Hayden admitted to three incidences of waterboarding:
“Waterboarding has been used on only three detainees,” he told members of the Senate Intelligence Committee. “It was used on Khalid Sheikh Mohammed. It was used on Abu Zubaydah. And it was used on [Abd al-Rahim al-]Nashiri.”
I think it would be safe to say, there were more than three who were waterboarded (Hayden also admitted to thirteen others being subjected to “enhanced interrogation methods,” but not waterboarding). And what about the deaths that occurred at Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo? And those who were renditioned to other countries?
The point is that both Bush and Cheney tried to “legitimize” the use of waterboarding by 1) making it appear an isolated case and, 2) invaluable information was obtained. They, of course, try to make it seem to the American public that torture’s O.K. in “certain circumstances” — that there are exceptions to the laws. THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS!
Here are some thoughts on the use of “enhanced interrogation techniques” by a Human Rights Watch representative and other CIA operators:
“The person believes they are being killed, and as such, it really amounts to a mock execution, which is illegal under international law,” said John Sifton of Human Rights Watch.
The techniques are controversial among experienced intelligence agency and military interrogators. Many feel that a confession obtained this way is an unreliable tool. Two experienced officers have told ABC that there is little to be gained by these techniques that could not be more effectively gained by a methodical, careful, psychologically based interrogation. According to a classified report prepared by the CIA Inspector General John Helgerwon and issued in 2004, the techniques “appeared to constitute cruel, and degrading treatment under the (Geneva) convention,” the New York Times reported on Nov. 9, 2005.
It is “bad interrogation. I mean you can get anyone to confess to anything if the torture’s bad enough,” said former CIA officer Bob Baer.
Larry Johnson, a former CIA officer and a deputy director of the State Department’s office of counterterrorism, recently wrote in the Los Angeles Times, “What real CIA field officers know firsthand is that it is better to build a relationship of trust … than to extract quick confessions through tactics such as those used by the Nazis and the Soviets.” . . . .

Important Actions Needed Right Now! Includes Bush Pardoning Himself . . .!! (Update)
From The People’s E-mail Network (“The Pen”):
Congress Must Debate The Implications Of A Bush Self-Pardon
Many people have been asking us, “Could Bush actually pardon himself?”. Would it be despicable? Sure it would. Would it be shameless and cowardly? Yes, that and that too. But all those adjectives fit Bush like O.J.’s glove before it shrunk from being soaked completely in blood. Which means he is absolutely is planning on doing it.
And only impeachment could stop it. We need to talk about this. We need Congress to talk about this. And Congress is in session this week, so we need you to speak out this week while there is still time.
Impeach Now Action Page:
Tens of thousands of you submitted the action page on this last week. Do it again. Please speak out again while we still can. There is already a drum beat in the right wing media calling on Bush to pardon his whole administration. Only our voices can raise the price of such action so that there would be real consequences.
We have not given up, and will never give up hope on justice. We will be taking delivery of another huge shipment of the “Impeach Both!!!” caps that are still so popular. But this might be the last batch. So if you want to demonstrate your support for impeachment, please request yours now from the return page of the action page submission.
Impeach Now Action Page
Will Congress now act? That is not the yardstick of the worth of our activism. We speak out because we must speak out, whether we are heeded or not. Let history record that we spoke out until the last minute to the eternal shame of those who did not. Because when enough of us speak out at once, the worst thing that can possibly happen is that we are building the progressive base for the REAL change of the future.
So Bush most certainly is planning on pardoning himself. And all the right wing lock down ideologues in the corporate controlled media will call it “healing”. Let’s all make nice with war criminals? Shall we all make nice with the gang rape of our economy, our environment and our Constitution? We think not.
And one more thing. You know that come January 20th the right wing will start calling for the impeachment of our new president, over a endless litany of the most ridiculous of trivial trifles. In fact it has already started even though he has not even taken office. If they are so hot on impeaching someone, let them speak out now, when it truly is called for, or shut the hell up in 65 days.
Please take action NOW, so we can win all victories that are supposed to be ours, and forward this alert as widely as possible.

Cheney Indicted!!!!!
The indictment criticizes VP Dick Cheney’s investment in the Vanguard Group, which holds
interests in the private prison companies running the federal detention centers.
Vice-President Cheney Indicted!
Associated Press
McALLEN, TX — A South Texas grand jury has indicted Vice President Dick Cheney and former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales on charges related to the alleged abuse of prisoners in Willacy County’s federal detention centers.
The indictment criticizes Cheney’s investment in the Vanguard Group, which holds interests in the private prison companies running the federal detention centers. It accuses Cheney of a conflict of interest and “at least misdemeanor assaults” on detainees by working through the prison companies.
Gonzales is accused of using his position while in office to stop an investigation into abuses at the federal detention centers.
Another indictment charges state Sen. Eddie Lucio Jr. with profiting from his public office by accepting honoraria from prison management companies.
The indictments were first reported by KRGV-TV.
There have been numerous reports of torture and abuse in private prisons. Looks like Cheney just can’t stop himself!

Why Doesn’t Sarah Palin Go Away?
Elections are over! Still, Sarah Palin is in the news every day.
Palin urges GOP governors to keep Democrats honest
By BRENDAN FARRINGTON, Associated Press Writer – Thu Nov 13, 6:18 pm ET—–MIAMI – Sarah Palin called on fellow Republican governors to keep the new president and his strengthened Democratic majority in check on issues from taxes to health care as she signaled she’ll take a leadership role in a party searching for a new standard-bearer.
Addressing the Republican Governors Association meeting Thursday, this year’s GOP vice presidential nominee – and an oft-mentioned candidate for 2012 – revisited some aspects of the bitter campaign and talked about the role of the governors in the coming year. After losing the White House and several seats in the Senate and House, the party is engaging in some soul-searching about its direction. . . .
The title alone blows me away! While the Repugs have lied, cheated and stolen for all of these past eight years, Palin is now the criterian?

A Quick One Re Election Voting — Important!
Here is just one example of some of the stuff that’s gone on and there’s plenty more.
Obama Attorney Says Voters Don’t Want to Hear About Election Fraud
Submitted by davidswanson on Mon, 2008-11-03 02:03. ElectionsSadly, this is not a joke:
Democrats Continue to Defend Their Indefensible Election Protection Efforts; Still in Denial, Obama’s Attorney Describes Serious Concerns About Voting Machines and More as ‘Hyperbole’
Never mind this:
And, of course, BradBlog has more on the voting issues!
So, just on the offhand chance . . . . . . ! I can’t even say it!

An Open Letter to Senator Obama and the Democratic Leadership:
On Election Night, DO NOT CONCEDE!
“Eight years is too much” is how Barack Obama explained why we must win the coming election and begin to restore America. But, even if we receive the most votes, will we win the election?
DO NOT CONCEDE!
Both of the last two elections were conceded by the Democratic presidential candidate. The 2004 election was handed to George Bush while votes were still being counted in closely-fought Ohio. While the 2000 election was contested to the Supreme Court, it too was ultimately conceded to Bush “for the good of the country.”Some good.
Numerous politicians, investigators and authors, including Robert Kennedy, Jr., agree the 2004 election was stolen, not only in Ohio but in several other battleground states. Tactics included purging of legitimate voters and the use of nefarious voting software–but when even these actions did not yield the required numbers, Republican election officials simply changed the vote tallies in several states, all without a peep from the Democratic Party. . . .
A good idea, too, would be to send these links to everyone you know. Get this populated!

I was there . . .!! Obama Rally!
Learned yesterday morning that Obama was going to be in Highland, Indiana, last night, so I planned on going. The rally was to begin at 7:30 p.m., at Wicker Memorial Park.
It was a beautiful, perfect evening!
Arriving, there was no allotted parking left, shopping mall across the street was packed and we were instructed by police to go to K-Mart (nothing being said about it not being there anymore). Kept driving until I saw more police, who told me where the lot was. Parked and got on a shuttle bus (free) to go back to the Park. Got off, walked to entrance, where police awaited, but, amazingly, no one’s purse or pockets were even searched. Walked to the Park, where all of the standing room possible in front of the platform was filled to capacity. Security everywhere. Interestingly, the group in front of the platform were “gated” off behind them, then there was a goodly amount of space, then more “gating” and people behind that, myself included.

DRILLING, DRILLING, DRILLING!
First, I support A Siegel for his many articles on energy issues — Get Energy Smart! NOW!!! and his article Whitehouse Drills Drilling has prompted this from me. (Well, to be honest, it’s been on my mind a lot as it is, anyway!)
~~~~~
THE very most important issue facing us right NOW is global warming — it concerns the survival of the universe, itself!
We need more (Sen. Sheldon) Whitehouses who would state emphatically
. . . do any of you seriously contend that drilling for more oil is the number one issue facing the American people today?
As we know, WE have the technology right now to turn our energy consumption into other alternatives, windmills, solar panels, alcohol (derived from numerous non-edible sources, such as sugar beets, hemp, cattails*, etc.) for use as fuel for our motor driven vehicles. It’s clean and efficient. *Cattails also can serve as a “filter” to prevent “dead zones” in our waters.
I had NO intentions of doing this at all — but McCain just pushed it way too far! (Update)
This is my LTE to numerous newspapers, locally and nationally!
Mr. Out of Touch, McCain!
As of April 22, 2008,
” . . . .When George W. Bush took office in 2000, oil was $28 per barrel, the euro was $.87 on the dollar, gold was $274 per ounce, and the national debt was $5.9 trillion. Today, oil is a record $114 per barrel, the euro is nudging $1.60 on the dollar, gold is $945 per ounce, and the National Debt is $9 trillion. The country is presently engaged in a $2 trillion war in Iraq with no end in sight. The federal government has expanded over 30% under Bush. Wages for working people have stagnated, unemployment has risen, 47 million Americans are without health care, and the economy is slipping into recession. By every objective standard, the country is worse off today than when Bush first took office. . . . Short and IMPORTANT!
Now Cong. Wexler is a victim of the same type of Republican attempts to run him out of office, the same that Kucinich suffered.
Writing in The Raw: What More Can I Do?
After having read so many articles on the environment and global warming and as spring was approaching, I kept asking myself, “what more can I do?” That is, apart from the ordinary efforts, such as recycling all household garbage, even washing out plastic bags used for vegetables and reusing them again, going to the farmer’s market for many years, isn’t there something more I could or should be doing?
With the onset of spring, the first thing most of us think about is our lawns, you know, fertilizing, weed killer, etc. I decided I was going to have a totally organic lawn, free of chemicals. I never used much other than fertilizer or weed killer.
For starters, I had heard about and read a little about the benefits of “corn gluten meal” as a weed killer. I began reading about it on the web at various websites, learning about its properties, how it works and what it actually does. It is a perfectly natural “pre-emergent” weed killer. That is to say, that the use of it at the proper time of the year can get the roots of pre-emerging weeds, but cannot kill the already existent weeds. Most of the organic websites wanted quite a bit of money for this “corn gluten meal.”
I went to a feed store not too far away. Interesting store, which I had only visited maybe once before a very long time ago. I asked the owner, “Sir, do you have any corn gluten meal? I am going to go organic with my lawn.” “No, I don’t have any here, but I can order you some.” “O.K., how much does it cost and how long will it take, it must be applied at the time the crocuses are blooming.” He went to look it up, “It will cost you about $22.00 for 36 pounds (that is about $20.00 or more dollars cheaper than organic stores sell it for and it is exactly the same thing), and I can have it here by Monday.” “O.K., please order it for me. Now, what about fertilizer – do you have any organic fertilizer?” “Yes, we have Milorganite – it’s totally organic.” “What is it?” “It’s waste, a waste treatment product – I’ve used it on my lawn and my neighbors want to know why my lawn is so green.” “O.K., I’ll take a bag of it.” Would you believe that a 40-pound bag costs less than $10.00?
Of course, I came home and just had to look up Milorganite. If you’re interested at all, here is more on the product
But, more importantly, it’s what the chemical fertilizers are doing to our earth, our waters, our nature.
