Obama Teh Fail: Incompetence Like Bush
9 days after the spill started on April 20th, Obama starts to do something:
http://www.nytimes.com/2010/04…
9 days with basically no action on the part of the Federal Government (unless you count the Coast Guard claiming the problem was small, or trying to light up the oil)
Baaa.

Gulf: 5 times what they originally claimed
And, a third leak has been identified. 210,000 gallons per day.
I don’t think any of this is surprising.
Opening up parts of the U.S. Atlantic coast, Alaska and possibly offshore Florida to exploration is Obama’s latest effort to woo legislators needed to pass a climate bill before mid-term elections in November.

“I urged him [Adolf Hitler] to give support [to Franco] under all circumstances, firstly, in order to prevent the further spread of communism in that theater and, secondly, to test my young Luftwaffe at this opportunity in this or that technical respect”

A Green Valley You’ll Never See
And a fight not worth fighting. The NYT reports that 42 Americans died there, and many more Afghan soldiers, and one would imagine, even more local people (but they don’t bother to even mention that). Why were Americans there?
“Occasionally a Taliban or Al Qaeda member was transiting through that location, but the Korangalis were by no means part of the insurgency,” he said. “Unfortunately, now they are because they were willing to accept any help to get us out.”
– NYT
So, if not Taliban or Al Qaeda, then who are these people we were killing?
Apr 13 2010
“Upon inspection,” NATO forces “discovered the vehicle to be a passenger bus.”
Really?
You guys are genius’
checkpoint and convoy shootings have not declined, worrying commanders who believe that such killings are turning Afghans against foreign forces.
Yes, killing people who ride the bus, might just turn people against you.
Genius.
General McChrystal:
in the nine-plus months I’ve been here, not a single case where we have engaged in an escalation of force incident and hurt someone has it turned out that the vehicle had a suicide bomb or weapons in it and, in many cases, had families in it.”
But, go right ahead boys and shoot up a bus.

New Low for DD: Removing an Essay
ON the very same subject that Buddhy brought up. It was clearly a response to his.
Very shameful.

Update: Kyrgyzstan Government Overthrown !
* The NYT is now reporting that the president has fled *
And this:
Opposition leaders said the toll was as high as 100 people, but that figure could not be confirmed.
-NYT
Kyrgyzstan is in outright revolt, after years of fake elections, and the removal of any semblance of a free media.
They’re between a rock and a hard place since both Russia and the US supports the current regime. The US because it needs the airbase for the Afghan war, and Russia for the same reasons–they also have bases there.
With the unrest deepening, several opposition leaders were arrested, including a former prime minister and presidential candidate, Almazbek Atambaev, and a former speaker of Parliament, Omurbek Tekebaev.
Is the US concerned about arrests, at least 12 protester deaths, the fake elections, the closing of the media?
Uh, no.
The US response?
The United States Embassy in Bishkek issued a statement saying that it was “deeply concerned about reports of civil disturbances.”
There’s some horrifying images on the NYT site, I’ll post only this one:

Drill, Baby, Drill
The winner gets to implement the platform they ran on, right?
Or, the platform of the losing side.
He (Obama) said that his plan to allow drilling along the Atlantic coastline, the eastern Gulf of Mexico and the north coast of Alaska – ending a longstanding moratorium on exploration from the northern tip of Delaware to the central coast of Florida, covering 167 million acres of ocean
….the sheer breadth of the offshore drilling decision will take some of his supporters aback.

Obama Promised to Finally Rid us of Nuclear Weapons
Down the memory hole again.
July 2008 (CNN)
“It’s time to send a clear message to the world: America seeks a world with no nuclear weapons,” the White House hopeful said.
Today (NYT):
The treaty would require each side to reduce deployed strategic nuclear warheads to roughly 1,600, down from 2,200 now, officials have said. It would also oblige each side to reduce its arsenal of strategic bombers and land- and sea-based missiles to 800, half the old limit of 1,600.
Arms control advocates consider those reductions to be relatively modest.
Nice work, PResident. This is no different then BUsh would have done.
Well, he did scrap Bush’s missile defense shield, right?
Uh, no.. not, really, he replaced it with his own version. (a little something for General Dynamics instead of Lockheed, maybe? Or Honeywell instead of Boeing? Who can say.)
If you want to stop nuclear weapons, and you’re the US, it’s kinda like what John Rotten said about rockstars complaining about having to be rockstars–JUST STOP BEING ONE THEN.
Dick.

Senate cuts taxes for business: and call it a ‘Jobs’ bill
Under the bill now heading to President Obama’s desk, businesses that hire workers who have been jobless for at least 60 days will be exempt from paying the 6.2 percent payroll tax on those employees’ earnings until the end of the year. If those workers stay on for a full year, businesses will also get a $1,000 tax credit. (The employee’s pay would still be subject to the usual personal income taxes.) The business tax breaks would add up to about $15 billion in all.
Of course, yeah… that’ll do pig.
The US government is basically just a conduit for taking money from employees, or future generations at this point, and giving said money to the largest companies, on the theory that some of that money will trickle down–which some of it will (right to congress) .
