Dream Catcher #3

Blooming Bliss

Bliss created

from stardust

memories

seeds coalesce

from strands

of time

and shed

their husks

creating space

to weave

the threads

in the tapestry

of existence

Snagging Wisps

Strands of stardust

woven spacetime

arranged to collect

better days

true emotions

radiant ideas

clasping truth

in the clutches

of abstraction

to be spilled

when bleeding

is necessary

The people on the other side of the screen

I ran into someone a few days ago who prefers the name-calling style of communication.  As these things frequently unfold, the name-calling escalated when it could have just as easily have been derailed by a simple apology…or even just by leaving the conversation…rather than an obstinate and seemingly never-ending defense of the behavior.

Eventually, the person wrote the following, which is the inspiration for this essay.

I don’t [think] you should be getting so bent out of shape because of words typed up by some random people you don’t know.  I think you should take a step back and get some perspective if you really have such a hard time dealing with the ramblings of anonymous goobers on the internet.

I do not consider the people I meet on the Internet to be “random people I don’t know.”  I call them my friends.  That’s probably why behavior on the Internet means more to me than him.

Aspiration

Hopes and dreams

of a better future

might be captured

in designs which

simultaneously

register

the disappointment

of a second-rate

present

and the struggle

to escape

the entanglements

of a past

constructed

out of ignorance

Coloration

Walled In

men

women

maybe both

sometimes neither

our choice

or at least

it should be

Liberty

for our souls

and yours

if you want it

for you

and your children

your grandchildren

generations to come

the future

Freedom

to live

all the colors

of the rainbow

of gender

as well as skin

The walls

around you

between us

will fall

if you stop

believing in them

Wings of Truth

A Modern Cave

Spreading truth

in the face

of ignorance

we return to the cave

after experiencing

the beauty and wonder

of a better place

a more just world

a brighter future

We understand

the difficulty

you face

having lived in the

in the mostly dark

having only experienced

the shadows

that passed as reality

What we don’t understand

is why you can

no longer hear

Sunset in Key West with Rum & Coke

Rest

Every cell taut

the totality vibrates

with tension

stress slowly drains away

too slowly

grudgingly ceding

potential

in favor of

kinetic

I tingle

becoming

again

one with my

soul

Toward the Cusp

Needs and Reasons

Until you can understand

the need for the learning

the reason for the teaching

will remain obscure

But that won’t stop

can’t deflect

the teacher

from trying

to teach

One day

some day

in the future

probably more distant

than would be ideal

maybe the lesson

will be learned

and we can move on

to other things

Assembling the Fragments

Introspection

When you build yourself

out of fragments

assembling carefully

that which is good

shedding the bad

like a winter coat

deciding what fits

what is detritus

left suspended

in the wake

of growing up

why would there be

any desire

to conceal

the finished product?

Do I live my life

to minimize your

discomfort

with the idea

of regeneration

rebirth

renaissance

or do I live my life

to improve

our common existence?

Is there really

a choice there?

A Thousand Cuts

Sharing Health

In a fair world

a just world

a world balanced

for sharing

rather than greed

we wouldn’t need

to worry

that someone else

getting healthy

would harm us

We wouldn’t seek

to capture

the value of their health

fearing that it would

diminish our own benefit

When can we arrive

in that place?

Life Storm

Rift

How strange

that such a small

easily stated

.

difference

.

between us

could open

such a vast

.

.

.

chasm

.

.

.

of distrust

mystery

confusion

misunderstanding

even hatred

How sad

that the variation

occurring so early

in our lives

could affect

so much

for so long

Can such a breach

ever be healed?

Badge

Measuring Time

The tick tick tick of time

registers the seconds and minutes

hours and days

years and decades

of lost youth

years spent unfrugally

squandered

for the benefit of others

more important than me

or so it seemed

Poe’s pendulum swings

measuring the beat beat beat

of my heart

as time ebbs away

compressing my future

and the hope

of hearing Freedom’s ring

signally the day

when being gay will be okay
