Groove Thing

Are we there yet?

We can spend our time

counting the days

living metronomes

beating out the hours

minutes or seconds

but in the end

the important question

is whether or not

tomorrow will be

a better day

than today

and perhaps

we could wonder

for whom

that may be

and for whom

it will not

Warp

The Cost of Speaking

So many

imagine they celebrate

the right to speak freely

while choosing

on the one hand

not to exercise

their ability to listen

closely and intently enough

to actually hear

and on the other hand

to avoid the responsibility

to respond

which ensures

that freedom

Beyond the End

Fifty-two

Keep your mouth closed

and embrace a simple life,

and you will live carefree until the end of your days.

If you try to talk your way into a better life,

there will be no end to your trouble

–from the Tao te Ching

–tr. by J. H. McDonald

I could embrace

a simpler life

might enjoy

being carefree

but…

…there would be people

some like me

and some not

with lives filled

with much concern

too many troubles

and my heart

is filled with care

Until they have

better lives

I must try

to talk the world

into a better way

Really

It’s no trouble

at all

Seeking to Connect

Be the Change

If we strive to live

as if the world

was as we wish it

to be

perhaps it will become

like that

“But that’s the way things are,”

says the crowd

That thinking is

what keeps our lives

this world

our relationship to this world

rigidly unchanging

So we resist

try to eradicate

that mode of thought

try to keep flicking

some switches

hoping that more

lights will illuminate

searching for a trigger

to ignite

the cascade effect

that will bring

the change we desire

It starts inside

each of us

with those things

we can really control

writing in the raw: in three parts

part I

i’m moving to The Netherlands on May 30 and won’t be around as much… due to a six hour time difference and settling into my new life.

next Thursday will likely be my last writing in the raw for a while. however, I intend to keep posting the Friday Pony Parties at 6ish… well, i will resume posting the ponies. i’ve been a bit distracted and out of any reasonable routine these last weeks.

so. nine months or thereabouts. absorbed in, with, about Docudharma. i have to tell you, i was shocked when buhdy asked me to join Docudharma as a contributing editor. i’m still not sure what prompted the invitation… but it has been the very best place for me over these many months. and it feels like i’ve known so many of you for years now… i love how the energy of friendship has surpassed time and space and 3d to find its way to me.

it has been thrilling to be immersed in your talents, encouraged by your brave hearts, sheltered by your kindness, and kept alive laughing by some of the wittiest, funniest people i’ve had the pleasure to know and love. And I am mostly kept sane absorbing the simple and honorable commitment of so many to do right by this living planet of ours.

i just thought you guys should know. how important you are. to me.

Peace

Resistance

You desire that I engage

in discussion

concerning the relative value

of War

You wonder

why I resist

The only wars

having merit

are the ones

too seldom fought

When do we fight

hunger and disease

bigotry and ignorance

neglect and greed?

Fighting these doesn’t require

armed conflict

but rather the engagement

the minds and hearts

the imagination and cooperation

of good people

Will we never try?

Breaking Dawn

Songs that voices seldom share

Does it matter

if you hear me

When the morning comes

I’ll be there by your side

–Harry Nilsson

Can you hear me?

Does it matter

if words adapt

to three-part harmony?

Are you waking?

Will you stop here

to share yourself

so everyone can see?

And in the morning

when I am here

I may be spreading

a good thought

And sometime later

when you stop by

will anything of substance

have been taught?

Can you hear me?

Does it matter?

In Search of…

Found Poetry

From our StatCounter service I receive daily emails with various stats, including the search terms that people used to find our site.  I usually let these sit in my inbox until I have a few months saved up and then I sort through and pick out some of the strange or unusual ones.   As the list builds, I begin to notice common themes and phrases. Occasionally they will be in a sequence that actually makes sense.  By grouping and rearranging the phrases I put together the following Found poems.  The phrases in the titles and passages are exactly as entered. I haven’t edited for spelling or added/removed words.

our multipolar disorder

elected officials inept

crippling nostalgia

the american dream? time to wake up!

the next revolution is gonna be a revolution of ideas

if it’s a lie, then we fight on that lie, but we gotta fight

the fear urgency of now

no matter how long the darkness is

the sunbeams will cut through them like swords.

we are confronted with the urgency

while usa sleeps about war

Lurking

Blueprint

A notion

and intention

initially

Ideas congeal

words emerge

slide into place

some locked

some fit

to be tumbled

pliantly capable

of movement

until unity forms

Structural collapse

conceptual disintigration

and verbal desertion

are neighbors

skulking

on the other side

of walls too thin

The Lure of the Gold

Entitlement

Shouldn’t entitlement

be an increasing function?

Should not our children

be entitled

to more freedom

liberty, joy

and happiness

than we were?

Shouldn’t their children

if they have any

deserve still more?

Or do you speak

of material things?

Do you look to me

as the reason

you don’t have more?

Pooling

Absolutely Nothing

War

Huh!  Good God, y’all!

What is it good for?

War is good

for making the rich richer

those mongers

who profit

from human suffering

and tragedy

It matters not

if they benefit from victory

by one side or the other

only that War

continue somewhere

forever

And War is good

for spreading

that suffering and tragedy

along with hatred

death and the disintegration

of human society

What more could anyone want?

At the Nub

Truth

Stripped

of pretense

scraped down

to the nub

bathed in

the acid

of reality

Truth

is coated by

no varnish

No twisting

spinning

bending

stretching

can alter it

Truth is inviolate

but there are many

pretenders
