Circular Rainbow

Unlock your mind

Words and images

wrapped in sounds

and silence

tracing a pathway

from here to there

beginning to end

With any luck

or perhaps skill

meaning is transferred

from me to you

and learning

emerges

The transaction

transpires

free of charge

to anyone

who is open

to the experience

Hanging by a Thread

Weed Control

The man says

we don’t matter

except in the ways

that we do harm

to the human ecology

When can I expect

the gardner

to stop by

to pluck me out

of this garden?

Blind Eye

Symbolism

Gestures

reaching out

so rarely

in our direction

Our vision

of equality

includes all

Isn’t that

how it

should be?

Why is there

no reaching out

symbolic

or otherwise

…but concrete

would be better…

towards this

vision?

Words

to the people

in our behalf

would assure us

but seldom

oh, so seldom

reach out

in our direction

The symbols

we have

so often die

like rotten fruit

on the vine

Walls

Walls between Us

Is there a time

when people will listen

a place

where they will come

intent on learning

how to shed

their personal baggage

that may stand

in the way

of our rights?

How many years

must pass?

How many miles

must be traveled?

When will you

be willing?

The walls

between us

will not fall

of their own accord

An Edge in the Rainbow

When I Dream

Who am I

when I dream?

What is this house

with many rooms

hidden entrances

staircases to adventures

opening into who knows

what world?

Where is this place

and time

and why am I there

or here?

Where is the doorway

into that better place

from this reality?

Who am I

when I traverse

the ideal?

Waiting

Someday Soon

Sitting

in the rocking chair

of old age

back bent

from the burden

Maybe today?

No

not today

not tomorrow

but someday soon

And the old

body creaks

as it stirs

racked by the pains

and scars

of years

of disappointment

The old person

waits

and the chair squeaks

as it deteriorates

worn through

by the salty tears

shed

through the long dark times

the painful years

the debilitating decades

of waiting

Maybe today?

No

not today

not tomorrow

but someday soon

Catching a Dream

For the Children

Teach your parents well

Their children’s hell

will slowly go by

Even if you don’t care

about us

wish we would just

go away

leave your world

pristine

cleaned of the likes of us

Our children

deserve better

from this culture

as much love

as we can give

as their biological

or adoptive parents

and as much love

as you can spare

from your humanity

if you have any

For the sake of us all

Café Discovery: Learning my part

There are Sundays when I don’t have much in the way of words.  At least not much in the way of my words.

This is apparently one of them.

I mean, I had a story just before I fell asleep last night and it migrated into a dream, I’m pretty sure, but as these things happen, when I woke up, it was gone.  I have a little suspicion of what it was about, but if I try to force it, I know I will be displeased with the result, that it wouldn’t end up being what it wanted to be.

So I’m going to leave that up to my subconscious to play and do with what it will.  Maybe the story will reappear and maybe it won’t.

Meanwhile, I’m supposed to be learning some lines from Eve Ensler’s The Vagina Monologues.  We have rehearsals Monday and Tuesday nights and it’s show time on Wednesday and Thursday.

Specifically, my part comes from They beat the girl out of my boy…or so they tried.

But I’ve spent most of the day with my art program instead.

At the Edge

Falling

Love that lasts

as long at least

as this forever

standing too close

to the ledge

separating

us from you

waits to see

if it will be denied

affirmation

watching painfully

those intent

on pushing us off

barreling toward us

while everyone else

silently bears

witness

That love

will not end

as we fall

if we fail

but I can’t help

but think

how failing

will diminish

us all

Blood on the Tracks

No Hate

The train of progress

moves down the track

unencumbered by those

left behind

abandoned

for the good

of an all too small

Lives consumed

as so much chum

to the hatred

Promises are always made

to come back

to rectify the wrongs

but the train

by its nature

always moves forward

Happiness denied

in the name

of progress

Must we wait

for another train

of doubtful existence

to arrive sometime

after we die?
