Flicker of Hope

Choice of Methods

Sometimes

we speak up

or more

challenge the darkness

force it away

manhandle it

back to its origin

Or we can

light a candle

hold it high

for those

who wish to see

and hold it long

in the hopes

it will be noticed

eventually

by those who don’t

Bruiser Pony Party

Oh, Noez!  I haz a Bruiser!

He showed up at my fire escape window on Friday night, just after nightprowlkitty commented that the back alleys were busy.

I gave him some meatloaf.

Didn’t see him again until Sunday night, when I made corned beef & cabbage.

Last night, I didn’t cook.  Bruiser showed up anyway…and stayed all night.

Here’s what he looks like (OK, Bruiser is a gray tabbly, not a marmalade, but the attitude is the same:

Egg Cream with Lime

Nutrition

Late evening, waiting for food

or deciding to take a pass

perhaps fast for a time

while thinking about those

who can’t choose not to be hungry

Early morning teaching people

how to learn so that they

can consume the knowledge

and solve the mysteries

this universe has to offer

Mid afternoon, a little tea time

for myself to regenerate

recharge the cells of my body

and my brain so that I

can pursue those other tasks

Peace

Resistance

You desire that I engage

in discussion

concerning the relative value

of War

You wonder

why I resist

The only wars

having merit

are the ones

too seldom fought

When do we fight

hunger and disease

bigotry and ignorance

neglect and greed?

Fighting these doesn’t require

armed conflict

but rather the engagement

the minds and hearts

the imagination and cooperation

of good people

Will we never try?

Tibetan Singing Bowls

I mentioned Tibetan singing bowls a few nights ago, and got some lovely responses.  Here’s a glimpse of what can be done with them:

The Lure of the Gold

Entitlement

Shouldn’t entitlement

be an increasing function?

Should not our children

be entitled

to more freedom

liberty, joy

and happiness

than we were?

Shouldn’t their children

if they have any

deserve still more?

Or do you speak

of material things?

Do you look to me

as the reason

you don’t have more?

Pooling

Absolutely Nothing

War

Huh!  Good God, y’all!

What is it good for?

War is good

for making the rich richer

those mongers

who profit

from human suffering

and tragedy

It matters not

if they benefit from victory

by one side or the other

only that War

continue somewhere

forever

And War is good

for spreading

that suffering and tragedy

along with hatred

death and the disintegration

of human society

What more could anyone want?

A Place to Visit for ‘PEACE’ while in DC for Inauguration

While those of you attending the Inauguration may be staying over for a few days, either before or after, you may find this a restful and enlightening venue to stop in and visit.

1/1-31 Georgetown: The Peace Mural, the unbelievable 2,000 paintings exhibition of art on war, peace, and torture that the Vietnamese-American artist Huong has on display in a 10,000 square foot gallery on M Street in Georgetown: Peace Mural Foundation

Breaking Dawn

Songs that voices seldom share

Does it matter

if you hear me

When the morning comes

I’ll be there by your side

–Harry Nilsson

Can you hear me?

Does it matter

if words adapt

to three-part harmony?

Are you waking?

Will you stop here

to share yourself

so everyone can see?

And in the morning

when I am here

I may be spreading

a good thought

And sometime later

when you stop by

will anything of substance

have been taught?

Can you hear me?

Does it matter?

Broken Dreams

Self-absorption

I’ve seen your claims

that you desire

a better world

Why is changing

your behavior

not a footstep

along that path?

Pathway

Life Stories

What would

you tell

the protagonist

of your story

to do

if you could?

Why aren’t you

living your life

so that

those events

could happen?

The deeper question:

Am I?
