focuses

the mind

and heart

connecting

to the words

through what is seen

and what is not

Words are spilled

one life’s blood

hoping a gatherer

happens to pass

this way

Colored pixels

dancing

a future

that never was

Words  

from an emotional place

words of pain and sorrow

of disappointment

of heartache

and also proclaiming

what can be

…there would be people

some like me

and some not

with lives filled

with much concern

too many troubles

and my heart

is filled with care

Until they have

better lives

I must try

to talk the world

into a better way

“But that’s the way things are,”

says the crowd

That thinking is

what keeps our lives

this world

our relationship to this world

rigidly unchanging

So we resist

try to eradicate

that mode of thought

try to keep flicking

some switches

hoping that more

lights will illuminate

searching for a trigger

to ignite

the cascade effect

that will bring

the change we desire

You wonder

why I resist

The only wars

having merit

are the ones

too seldom fought

When do we fight

hunger and disease

bigotry and ignorance

neglect and greed?

Fighting these doesn’t require

armed conflict

but rather the engagement

the minds and hearts

the imagination and cooperation

of good people

Can you hear me?

Does it matter

if words adapt

to three-part harmony?

Are you waking?

Will you stop here

to share yourself

so everyone can see?

And in the morning

when I am here

I may be spreading

a good thought

And sometime later

when you stop by

will anything of substance

have been taught?

Ideas congeal

words emerge

slide into place

some locked

some fit

to be tumbled

pliantly capable

of movement

until unity forms

Should not our children

be entitled

to more freedom

liberty, joy

and happiness

than we were?

Shouldn’t their children

if they have any

deserve still more?

Or do you speak

of material things?

War is good

for making the rich richer

those mongers

who profit

from human suffering

and tragedy

It matters not

if they benefit from victory

by one side or the other

only that War

continue somewhere

forever

And War is good

for spreading

that suffering and tragedy

along with hatred

death and the disintegration

of human society

No twisting

spinning

bending

stretching

can alter it
