Outside The Wall

( – promoted by buhdydharma )

So you . . . thought you . . .

Might like to go to the show,

To feel the warm thrill of confusion,

That space cadet glow.

I’ve got some bad news for you, Sunshine,

Change isn’t well, it stayed back at the hotel,

And it sent us along, as a surrogate band,

We’re going to find out where you folks really stand.

So far, it’s quite clear where ardent admirers of Obama stand . . .

Barack Obama Pictures, Images and Photos

They stand for ardent admiration of Obama.

Can they support no torture prosecutions?

Can they support no investigations of BushCo’s 8 year crime rampage?

Can they support trillions of dollars for Wall Street criminals?

Can they support indefinite detentions, more government secrecy, and more NSA spying on Americans?

Yes they can!

Meanwhile, as Obama’s ardent admirers clap louder for superficial change, the hard core RePug base is waiting for a great leader to emerge.  Someone who’ll wave the flag like it’s never been waved before, who’ll carry the cross into that bloody mess of a Holy Land, who’ll smite those heathen Muslims so Jews can live in peace until they die and burn in Hell for eternity, who’ll punish the enemies of Christianism and conservatism, who’ll boldly go where no RePug has ever gone before, even that halfwit wolf-killing governor of Alaska.

They’re damn well not waiting quietly, they’re celebrating murder while they’re waiting, spewing racism while they’re waiting, inciting hatred while they’re waiting . . .

Waiting to cut out the deadwood.

Waiting to clean up the city.

Waiting to follow the worms.

Waiting to put on a black shirt.

Waiting to weed out the weaklings.

Waiting to smash in their windows

And kick in their doors.

Waiting for another 9/11.  It might not happen for 10 years.  Or it might happen tomorrow.  And then the shit will hit the fan like this country hasn’t seen since the Civil War.

The underlying message in RePug speeches is always the same.  That message  is never stated openly, but it doesn’t have to be.  RePugs are RePugs.  They all have the same phobias, the same fears, the same lizard brain solutions.  They all want the same thing . . .

Are there any queers in the country tonight?

Get ’em up against the wall.

There’s one in the spotlight, he don’t look right to me,

Get him up against the wall.

That one’s a liberal,

And that one’s a coon.

Who let all of this riff-raff into the room?

There’s one smoking a joint,

And a Muslim with spots!

If we had our way,

We’d have all of them shot.

Wingnuts don’t need no education.  All they need is guns.  And thought control so they’ll know who to kill.

We all know who provides that.   The builders of The Wall.

The Wall of Corporate Power has never been higher.  High atop that Wall, the sentinels of K Street patrol the battlements, ever watchful for approaching threats like the Employee Free Choice Act or Single Payer Healthcare Reform.  The Lords of the Corporate Media control what people outside The Wall are told and what they’ll never be told.  Judges pay homage to the Corporate Gods and decree that everyone outside The Wall must silently submit to the power of The Wall . . .

A federal district court judge in San Francisco has dismissed more than three dozen lawsuits filed against the nation’s telecommunications companies for their role in the Bush administration’s warrantless wiretapping program.  Judge Vaughn Walker ruled on Wednesday to uphold legislation passed by Congress last summer that retroactively protected the companies against liability for their participation in what was then an illegal activity.

The politicians and officials of The Wall portray themselves as servants of the people, but they don’t serve the people, they serve the builders of The Wall.  If you want to find out what’s behind their cold eyes, just claw your way through their disguise.  Beneath that disguise, you’ll find a brick.  Harry Reid claims to serve the people, but he’s just another brick in The Wall.  Eric Holder tells us that no one is above the law, but he’s just another brick in The Wall.  Barack Obama speaks of change, but he hasn’t changed Washington, Washington has changed him.

Into a brick.

Obama’s just another brick in The Wall.  I hate to have to say it, but it sure looks that way.  If this is change, I wouldn’t want to see what more of the same would look like.  That corporate Wall around Washington has got to come down.  The hypocrites behind that Wall have inflicted too much suffering, too much death, too much grief, too much horror.  In Iran during the bloody rule of the Shah, in Vietnam with napalm and Agent Orange, in Cambodia with mass B-52 raids, in Nicaragua and El Salvador and Guatemala and Honduras, where death squads trained to kill in the School of the Americas slaughtered the innocent, in Iraq so cash would flow into the coffers of big oil companies and war profiteers, in Afghanistan, where no one is safe from Pentagon weaponry, in Gitmo, in secret prisons that still haven’t been shut down because the Builders of the Wall will not allow it.

Suffering, death, grief, horror . . .

Pink Floyd: The Wall Pictures, Images and Photos

The suffering of the poor and the powerless will never end if we don’t tear down that Wall.  There’s only one way to do it.  Brick by brick.  But progressives can’t do that alone, we can’t tear down that Wall until we get some help, America.  I hope you’ll consider helping us, I hope you’ll conclude that giving us a little help isn’t too much to ask.  I hope that someday soon, you’ll help us tear down that Wall.  Until you do . . .

All alone, or in two’s,

The ones who really love you,

Walk up and down outside The Wall.

Hand in hand, across this land,

The bleeding hearts and truth seekers,

Will make a stand.

And when they’ve given you their all,

Some stagger and fall,

After all, it’s not easy,

Banging your heart,

Against some mad bugger’s Wall.

  1. He put a candle in the window for America all through the dark days of BushCo, so this lost nation could find its way home again.  The light of truth that glowed in the window of OPOL’s essays provided assurance that no matter how high that Wall is, no matter how many bricks it has, we can tear it down, we can take our government back if we give our all, if we help each other up when we fall.

Thank you, OPOL, for your leadership, for your courage, for the light of truth that always shined in your essays.  It’s not as dark as it used to be, we’re not as far from home as we used to be, but we have a long way to go yet, so I hope you light that candle of truth again, I hope we see it shining here soon . . .

We’ve had some improvement, but . . . we’re still nowhere near a meaningful recovery or even a slight recovery.

But we’re not getting worse quite as fast.

As of March 31, according to Bloomberg:

The U.S. government and the Federal Reserve have spent, lent or committed $12.8 trillion, an amount that approaches the value of everything produced in the country last year, to stem the longest recession since the 1930s.

President Barack Obama and Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner met with the chief executives of the nation’s 12 biggest banks on March 27 at the White House to enlist their support to thaw a 20-month freeze in bank lending to take their marching orders.

“The president and Treasury Secretary Geithner have said they will do what it takes,” Goldman Sachs Group Inc. Chief Executive Officer Lloyd Blankfein said after the meeting. “If it is enough, that will be great. If it is not enough, they will have to do more.

    Now the wintertime is coming,

The windows are filled with frost

    I went to tell everybody,

But I could not get across

Don’t say I never warned you

  2. The evidence before the court is

    Incontrovertible, there’s no need for

    The jury to retire

In all my years of judging

I have never heard before of

    Some one more deserving

    The full penalty of law

The way you made them suffer

    Your middle class and poor

Fills me with an urge to defecate

Since my friend you have revealed your deepest fear

I sentence you to be expunged before your country

    Tear down the wall

  3. “Obama is not the Answer”.  That was over a year ago.  I tried to make the argument that what needs to be changed is bigger than the President, bigger than most people want to admit.  I got blasted, with about 300 comments in one hour and ended up deleting.  Such is life.

  4. I like him better than the other guy. Does that make me orange right down to my underwear?

  5. I hope that someday soon, you’ll help us tear down that Wall.

Please issue me the information for when, where, what, etc.

  6. Excellent essay.

I do have a bunch of masonry tools, & have using them since the sixties.

One brick at a time is how they built a wall.

One brick at a time is how you take one down.

  7. and a great album and fantastic movie.
