Just parking this quote here for future reference in flame wars on Dkos with people who say it is not a progressive site.
In a really worthwhile interview re online communities here….
Having learned from the failures of the others, I immediately announced that dKos was a progressive community, and that conservatives would be on a short leash. There was a lot of crying about “free speech” and whatnot, but I made clear that cons had plenty of places to go online – Free Republic, Lucianne, etc – and liberals didn’t, and that Daily Kos would be a safe haven for progressives. I aggressively cleaned out the conservative troublemakers, and what do you know, liberals liked their little safe haven
Of course this will just lead to arguments over what “Progressive” and “Liberal” REALLY mean, but I thought it worth noting, sharing and recording, lol.

And anybody who disagrees is just plain wrong! So there!
is a threshold kind of thing or if it is binary. As in beyond a certain point of view your are progressive but you could be more progressive, or once you reach a point there is no more measurement.
Can progressive communities exist whose purpose is to provide a living for a select few?
Can progressive communities exist without elected representation for their governance?
Can progressive communities exist without people volunteering labor?
Can progressive communities exist with vigilantism?
The gate’s been crashed using progressives as a battering ram. Now the gate’s been built up with ‘true’ Democrats on one side and progressives on the other.
Markos has an interesting past, don’t you think? DKos has been enormously helpful to America’s owners in getting the progressive community to sit down and shut up, so that they can better admire Obama’s 11-dimensional chess moves.
With the help of DKos, we have a permanent war; an increased defense budget; a complete cover-up of Bush-era crimes; and an unlimited commitment of taxpayer funds to support financial corporations and insurance companies.
Nice job, special agent Moulitsas.
The big difference being that Tom Sawyer didn’t crow about how many other kids he talked into painting with his preferred shade of Progressive.
I don’t see the site adopting a set of widely-held values along the lines of what ek posted here. Marcos is still primarily interested in the horse race, which is fine (not to my taste), but it was better when he acknowledged it as such.
Although I know you’re just parking that quote here so you can pull it out at the most (in)appropriate time, heh.
but progressive it’s not!
Progressives get shouted down and sometimes even banned, lately more so than before. One guy even had a diary up saying,’If you don’t like it here, go leave.’
How progressive is that? I expect that from freepers not Dkos.
Progressives fight like cats and then go find common ground somewhere and lick each others wounds. It’s the drama we all live for.
Dkos lost it, maybe never had it.
He actually said that. Now that is absolutely not what is happening on that site.
You have to be a complete idiot NOT to.
That’s the problem these days, is that everyone who’s NOT a right-wing nut job gets labelled a “progressive”.
It ain’t so.
…there it is.
The primary role of DKos helping Democratic candidates win and moving Democratic Party politics to what he defines as the “center” to make Democratic Party candidates more electable.
That said, I’m leaving the thread. I still think the best way to deal with Kos is ignore him. Suck the air out of the room around him.
I post there often, but to tell the truth, I only do it because there might be a gazillion readers. does the political orientation of the site bother me? Not really. Does the right wing mafia in the comments bother me? yes.
If I had my druthers, there would be somewhere else that was as huge but that was progressive. Orange ain’t that. Can we build it so that they will come? I hope so.
I have been there, done that and been banned three times under different ids for the same stuff that I post here at DD and other places…
Kos is a pompous asshole beyond compare, a fraud, a phony and a seasoned snake oil salesman whose true calling in life as if it is not obvious will be to run for office as yet another one of the two-faced cheating scoundrels who are responsible for pulling the chain and flushing America. Sadly most of the people over there don’t have any idea of just how badly that they are being duped by that charlatan and his minions. An authoritarian huckster acting as the rear guard for the establishment and surrounded by loyalist sycophants who have been drawn to the Kos cult of personality as horseflies are to a bloated body decomposing in the streets of Baghdad – or more appropriately in the case of the Kossacks – to a stinking pile of fresh dogshit.
Joe Stalin brooked more dissent than Markos and his minions, a pack of gutless wonders who lack either the decency or the backbone to venture out of their cloistered confines to debate on a level playing field where they can’t use their delete keys like rubber truncheons in smacking down dissidents.
I must say that even the most fervent of Republican chickenhawks have more intestinal fortitude than the soldiers of orange when it comes down to a fight.
He built his palace of orange hued shit, now he can live in it.
Just my two cents

I think it is a microcosm of the Democratic end of the political spectrum. It has always had it’s splits as does the real world political. The problem is that the people who believe that the only way to win is to follow the so called party leaders, the analysts and the media version of the make up of the populace. It always seemed to me that the centrist’s are fighting for the same pool of voters. The party itself is split like this. When you perceive the people as just votes to win and place all faith in the reading of the tea leaves, the stats from dubious sources, you lose the ability to form coalitions with those who actually do want ‘change’.
You end up with 60 democrats who still won’t deliver and blame it on their constituents regardless of what the numbers say about the public’s opinion of them. All the numbers get twisted to the nefarious ends of the pols of mass destruction. The numbers are deciphered to prop up political fictions.
I rest my case.
