Iran Attack Coming?

A reporter with the Scotland Herald, Mr. Rob Edwards, is reporting that the U.S. may be gearing up for an attack on Iran.

According to the report, “A shipping company based in Florida, Superior Maritime Services, will be paid $699,500 to carry many thousands of military items from Concord, California, to Diego Garcia.

Also, it is reported that among the cargo are “192 massive 2000lb Blu-117 bombs.”

Can this be true?  I’m very, VERY skeptical about this report for a few reasons.

First, if you go to the reported contractor website, there is no mention of any project services beyond 2006.  And, second, if a shipment of military armament and ordnance is going to be shipped to Diego Garcia the primary mode of transportation would be Air Force cargo aircraft.  The alleged manifest cites BLU-110 and BLU-117 bombs.

Now, there could be a third possibility; the “contractor” is merely a CIA “front company”.  However, that wouldn’t “fit” with the description from the report:

The Sunday Herald can reveal that the US government signed a contract in January to transport 10 ammunition containers to the island. According to a cargo manifest from the US navy, this included 387 “Blu” bombs used for blasting hardened or underground structures.

A company used by CIA as a front wouldn’t leave a paper-trail, much less, signed “contracts”.

This to me smells of military psy-op in order to give Iran the impression that America is about to attack.

Contract details for the shipment to Diego Garcia were posted on an international tenders’ website by the US navy.

Ummmm… right.  So, the site where the U.S. had a CIA “black site”, where B-52, B-1 and B-2 bombers can hanger, where even the British government doesn’t dare investigate what the U.S. does on the atoll, will suddenly have the U.S. Navy post a sensitive weapons shipment manifest online?  I don’t think so, at least, not a credible one.

However, that didn’t stop the reporter from getting quotes from various agencies about how this could signal a “coming attack”.

“They are gearing up totally for the destruction of Iran,” said Dan Plesch, director of the Centre for International Studies and Diplomacy at the University of London, co-author of a recent study on US preparations for an attack on Iran. “US bombers are ready today to destroy 10,000 targets in Iran in a few hours,” he added.

Well, actually, according to the “report” and “manifest”, there are only 397 BLU units being shipped.  That is enough ordnance to attack MAYBE a dozen or so hardened targets.  The “plans” that would “destroy 10,000 targets in Iran in a few hours” would take sorties on a level never-before-seen in history.  You are talking 30,000 sorties in a few hours?  Not happening.  We simply don’t have the number of aircraft required that are based in close enough proximity to carry out that level of an attack.

This most basic of information hasn’t stopped the story from picking up traction as Raw Story has linked to it.

You may ask, why an obscure paper in Scotland, of all places?

Well, why not?  The Niger/Yellow Cake forged documents debacle came out of Italy (allegedly), but, they already tried and convicted 26 CIA agents for kidnapping.  Spain and Germany aren’t exactly being nice to us.  England is mired in its own torture and Iraq War lead-up problems.  But, any “source” will do, as long as it is picked up and re-reported.

I’m giving this report zero credibility and calling BS on it.

  1. Funny day.  First thing in the morning, I found this info.

I posted this stuff in comments on 2 websites.

By the end of the day, I found your diary.

    Thanks for debunking this.

that the Pentagon has no desire whatsoever to get involved in a third war in the region (four if you count Pakistan). There have been a half dozen of these “oh, noes, the u.s. is gonna bomb iran” kerfluffles on the Intertoobz in the last half decade, several with more convincing sourcing than this one. Nuttin’ happened, nor is it likely to.
