Drill, Baby, Drill

(10 am. – promoted by ek hornbeck)

The winner gets to implement the platform they ran on, right?

Or, the platform of the losing side.

He (Obama) said that his plan to allow drilling along the Atlantic coastline, the eastern Gulf of Mexico and the north coast of Alaska – ending a longstanding moratorium on exploration from the northern tip of Delaware to the central coast of Florida, covering 167 million acres of ocean

….the sheer breadth of the offshore drilling decision will take some of his supporters aback.

  1. Here again is an issue that Bush could not take on for fear of losing Florida.

But, when the Democrats implement a policy that is the same as the Republican  policy (or maybe worse) , then of course no one says anything, and they get away with it.

    Impeach the fucker.

  2. Some people are defending this action, while a ban on offshore exploration off the Atlantic coast and much of Alaska has been the Democratic Party line for, what, decades?

Cognitive dissonance…learned helplessness, just a couple of terms that come immediately to mind.

  3. he made an anti-drilling speech, while the O makes a pro drilling speech .

  4. as cynical as I am about American politics, I am still taken aback at the audacity of this kind of decision, it’s really striking, maybe even more so than the HCR bill, which had some redeeming qualities at least (expansion of Medicaid and community health centers, specifically.)

This is just…nothing. This is a James Watt-style environmental policy. Obama is not equal to Bush. He is Reagan.

  5. Including

large tracts in the Chukchi Sea and Beaufort Sea in the Arctic Ocean north of Alaska – nearly 130 million acres – would be eligible for exploration and drilling after extensive studies.

  6. But you gotta love a “Two Party system.”

didn’t expect the Party of No to endorse this plan. As BarbinMD said at GOS this is just another sign of insanity in his part. The Grand Obstructionist Party responded wiht a resounding “It doesn’t go far enough” rant.

Is Obama that dense? Or is he really a Republican and the voters have been had?

At this point, I’m going for the latter.

  7. see it for myself, i wouldn’t have believed this in a million years. Where in the fvk is representative democracy?  Remember Bush the DECIDER? Now Obama the DECIDER. I’m speechless—————-

  8. If one knew there was nothing there then it would be safe to “allow” such drilling.

Ah, but that is just the stuff of the “Coast to Coast AM” station, “The Art Bell” show.

  9. This offshore drilling could have been used as a bargaining chip for clean, green energy. So before giving it away could accomplish anything that would piss off the oil lobby, it got billed as an “olive branch” where the Repugs are compelled to do nothing and nothing will be accomplished.

End result, the monied few are very happy, just like health care.

  10. There is only enough oil there for about 1 month’s of U.S. oil consumption.

    WTF? Why?

  11. Didn’t we invade Iraq so we wouldn’t have to destroy our domestic coast lines?
