NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament 2018: Day 2, Round of 64, Evening

So who do we like tonight? Syracuse, Maine, and Gonzaga.

Mississippi State is interesting and dangerous. They lost only to South Carolina in the SEC Tournament.

NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament 2018: Day 1, Regional Quarter Finals

Sorry. Distracted. 140 – 52. Tournament Record (121, Men’s or Women’s) shattered.

Not 3:1. Not 149+ (most points ever, Men or Women). Room for improvement. A-.

I don’t think there’s a team on the Men’s side who can hang with them if they swapped today. Even less so if they had a few months to ramp up.

In Thursday’s list of Underdogs made good are Buffalo, Loyola, and Alabama.

NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament 2018: Day 2, Round of 64, Afternoon

Fight On Connecticut

We must fight on for old Connecticut
We must fight on for Blue and White
We all have to sacrifice for our Huskies to win this fight
We must fight on until the glory’s won
‘Til we have vict’ry on our side
And when we win–we’ll pin–the laurel on those Husky heads held high
U-C-O-N-N, U-C-O-N-N, U-C-O-N-N Fight!
We must fight on for old Connecticut and then defend with all our might
We must teach the lesson well, that our DOG is in this fight
So let us never waver in our questAnd rest not ’til we score
Then standing proud– and loud— we’ll cheer our UConn Huskies evermore.
To the core- Huskies evermore!

UConn Husky

U Conn Husky, symbol of might to the foe.
Fight, fight Connecticut, it’s victr’y, Let’s go
Connecticut U Conn Husky, victr’y again for the White and Blue
So go, go, go Connecticut, Connecticut U. Fight!
C-O-N-N-E-C-T-I C-U-T. Connecticut,
Connecticut Husky,
Connecticut Husky, Connecticut C-O-N-N-U. Fight!

I’ll assume you know the lyrics to America the Beautiful and Solidarity Forever.

Stratogale! April 23rd, ’57! Cape caught in a jet turbine! Metaman, express elevator! Dynaguy, snagged on takeoff! Splashdown, sucked into a vortex!

No capes! – Edna Mode

Anyway, you know where my head’s at and the Lady Huskies stand a mere 6 victories away from yet another 38 – 0 season.

It’s actually worse than you think because except for Mississippi State they’ve already played all of the contenders and won so that’s my prediction for the Final. Muffet is pre-pissed at the NCAA because she once again finds herself on the wrong side of the bracket and is going down in the Semi Finals if she makes it that far.

Should Geno and the Ladies falter at any point he’ll put on his “disappointed” face and commiserate with the Seniors disappearing into the maw of the WNBA and tell the rest of them that next year is coming sooner than they think and they better be ready to work their asses off because this level of performance is unacceptable.

In a way it’s worse than if he screamed and yelled at them.

I’m not kidding that Coaches who have graduated from Geno’s program are going to dominate the future of Lady’s Basketball because I’ve seen Jen Rizzotti work. I believe in fact, given the opening in the Men’s program, UConn could do worse than to hire one themselves.

When TMC and I were discussing last night’s stunning upset of Virginia by University of Maryland, Baltimore County she said- “You know, they play like UConn.”

Yes, yes they do.

Welcome to The Breakfast Club! We’re a disorganized group of rebel lefties who hang out and chat if and when we’re not too hungover we’ve been bailed out we’re not too exhausted from last night’s (CENSORED) the caffeine kicks in. Join us every weekday morning at 9am (ET) and weekend morning at 10:00am (ET) (or whenever we get around to it) to talk about current news and our boring lives and to make fun of LaEscapee! If we are ever running late, it’s PhilJD’s fault.

NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament 2018: Day 2, Round of 64, Evening

Let me say I’m pleased as punch that the Orangemen played their way into the big dance. I haven’t made many predictions today (they’re mostly wishes anyway) but I’m highly gratified when they make me seem not quite such an idiot as I actually am.

Wednesday’s Results

So today was Hump Day. I had 124 links to chase down and I only have 64 left tomorrow. Of course I have to do that before 11 am and update all the Thursday Results so my life still sucks in a deeply sleep deprived way since I’ve written 7 pieces, one of which you won’t see until I travel next week. It’s also looong, in case it’s the only one.

Don’t worry, I’ll consume more of your time with my anxiety as I grow more frantic about my departure.

I suppose I should talk some about Basketball. I have a great fondness for MSU and I hope they win it all. Xavier has a cooler name than Gonzaga (it has an “X”!), TMC does not agree. I’d like to see Syracuse advance also. Other than that I don’t much care. I’m going to grab some more Zs and a bite to eat and then hit the night shift again because mere Daylight Savings doesn’t aggravate my SAD and disrupt my Circadian Rhythm enough on it’s own.

Good luck with your brackets.

NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament 2018: Day 1, Round of 64, Evening

Once again the Women get snubbed by having only the one Network (ESPN) and even only one Channel (ESPN 2), the second best one (though some would argue who wants to watch Sports Center 24/7 and I would be forced to agree) at that.

It’s not like Disney doesn’t have dozens of Channels on your Cable that would be totally suitable. Indeed ESPN has dozens all by itself and they hemorrhage money because they pay too much for rights to stupid things like the NFL while letting smart networks like NBC suck up the rights to weird but interesting sports like Curling, Formula One (ugh, time for that again), Premier League, and America’s Cup.

Though they do have good promo commercials.

NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament 2018: Day 1, Round of 64, Afternoon

Look, the Women’s game is just superior if you care about Basketball at all. Sure UConn is dominant and part of it is that they play from the Tip straight through because of their conditioning but it’s not like they’re bullies in the Paint- this is not Hockey. They rebound with authority at both ends because they move without the Ball and don’t just stand around. Same for their Passing Game. They hustle in Transition and Shoot with accuracy from distance or under the Hoop.

If they played in the Men’s Tournament they’d be a Sweet Sixteen every single year.

Now you may say well, without Geno… he’s been more than willing to share everything he knows and more and more ladies who have come up through his system are Head Coaches on their own. Perhaps one of them will succeed him, maybe not. It’s not the man, it’s the system.

And if you don’t think this is effecting the sport as a whole in a positive way you are not paying attention to the teams that aren’t UConn who are elevating their game every year.

Just UConn is elevating it more.

So yeah, bring it on. Women’s College Basketball is the best Basketball there is.

What “Yes” Is

Crap. I don’t do “Breaking” and I have more than enough to do to get my Basketball pieces up on time but I happen to be up and this was just on-

As they say, the important bit is at the end.

“Was she threatened in any way?”

“Yes.”

“Was she threatened physical harm?”

“Yes.”

Now there are any number of methods to evade those questions and if you’re an attorney perhaps the safest is to say, “That’s what my client has represented to me and they have presented credible evidence for that claim,” which also means yes but you’re supposed to be an advocate so there’s a little wiggle room.

Yes is Yes.

I’ll unpack the Stephanie Clifford story at some point because my mind is totally in the gutter and I’m really interested in her explaining his tiny hands, but this is significant and it’s not going away.

Maybe Trump can fire Mueller but civil suit discovery will burn him as badly as it did Bill. Michael Avenatti is no dope and the other Michael (Cohen) a proven one whose only talent is bullying.

NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament 2018: Day 1, Round of 64, Evening

The winners of the 2 Play In games that took place Tuesday are appearing tonight. It’s hard to call any of the Play In games upsets because they’re between 2 identical seeds but normally teams that win in an upset are marked with an Asterisk (*). Teams are presented higher seed to the left, the winning score is Bold Faced or you could just read the numbers and figure it out.

Do we have favorites tonight? Sure. The Villanova Ballhogs because they appeared in Bored of the Rings, also Big East. Davidson because not Kentucky. San Diego State because not Texas. Texas v. Texas? Pick ’em.

Virginia Tech because not Alabama. Buffalo because New York. Michigan because… well, Michigan and Larry Kasdan. Bonnies because not ‘Gators.

You can certainly call my picks shallow, prejudiced, and ill-informed which is all true but it’s 100% as valid as basing it on uniform color, one of them is usually White and that’s boring.
