Americans Fondly Recall 9/11 As Last Time Nation Could Unite In Bloodlust
The Onion

WASHINGTON—As they reminisced 20 years later about a devastating and historic national tragedy, Americans reportedly took note Saturday of how the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks were the last time the country was able to put aside its differences and stand united in a bloody, homicidal thirst for vengeance. “Nowadays, there’s political polarization everywhere you look, but back then, we found a shared sense of purpose and agreed to just kill, kill, kill,” said Cleveland native Lewis Romano, one of the millions of U.S. citizens who waxed nostalgic for the days following 9/11, when Americans from all walks of life coalesced around common demands for widespread death, carnage, and destruction in a faraway place that most of them would never visit.

“After those towers fell, it didn’t matter if you were from a blue state or a red state, because we all wanted the same thing—blood—and we wanted it immediately. So we came together, and in a single voice we told the world: We’re gonna drop tens of thousands of bombs on Afghanistan and ask questions later. There wasn’t any hand-wringing about whether we might fuck everything up and make it far, far worse. Republicans and Democrats simply locked arms, pulled the trigger, and let the bodies fall where they may. We were truly one then. It was a beautiful thing.” Asked to point to a map and identify any of the 85 countries to which U.S. counterterrorism operations have since spread, the American populace demurred.

Democrats Sick Of Being Blamed For Cowardice On Issues They Actually Just Don’t Care About
The Onion

WASHINGTON—Having thus far caved on eliminating the filibuster, advancing an adequate climate change agenda, and protecting voting rights, congressional Democrats told reporters Wednesday they were sick and tired of being blamed for cowardice on issues that, in reality, they just didn’t care about. “I’ve had it with being labeled spineless simply because, at the end of the day, I really don’t give a shit whether we tax the rich to help poor families or hungry children or whatever,” said Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), stressing that his complete lack of interest in passing tough regulations for the financial services industry, supporting a Green New Deal, and ending the War on Terror hardly meant he was weak-willed or timid. “That’s so unfair. If these were issues Democrats truly cared about, then we’d fight the Republicans tooth and nail on them. We’d even have the guts to risk the lucrative relationships we’ve formed with powerful corporations, defense contractors, and billionaire donors. But for something like an eviction moratorium, Medicare for all, or a fracking ban? No fucking way.”

Reached for comment, the hundreds of handsomely paid former Congress members now working as lobbyists and sitting on corporate boards were happy to acknowledge their utter cowardice.

What Really Happened at Little Big Horn Custers Last Stand ?

The year was 1876, following years of broken treaties by the white man culminating with General Custer trying to establish a military fort upon the discovery of GOLD. Great news thought pioneer settlers 3 years after the PANIC DEPRESSION of 1873. Ditto for Custer, looking to regain his reputation after showing distinguished heroism during the Confederate War, only to have later been busted during a Court Marshall for taking his troop AWOL for an unauthorized trip so he could see his beloved wife. Ambitious to quickly regain his stature as a war hero leader, General Custer jumps in to battle with the Native Americans (aka Indians) before reinforcements arrived. But he didn’t figure the natives 2,000 fierce warriors were not about to forfeit their land granted by the two treaties signed by the United States government . And now we better understand the term “Indian Giver”

Quilting is the term given to the process of joining a minimum of three layers of fabric together either through stitching manually by hand using a needle and thread, or mechanically with a sewing machine or specialised longarm quilting system. An array of stitches is passed through all layers of the fabric to create a three dimensional padded surface. The three layers are typically referred to as the top fabric or quilt top, batting or insulating material and the backing.

Quilting varies from a purely functional fabric joinery technique to highly elaborate, decorative three dimensional surface treatments. A wide variety of textile products are traditionally associated with quilting that includes bed coverings, soft home furnishings, garments and costumes, wall hangings, artistic objects and cultural artefacts.

A wide range of effects can be employed by the quilter that contribute to the final surface quality and utility of the quilted material. The quilter controls these effects through the manipulation of elements such as material type and thickness, stitch length and style, pattern design, piecing and cutting. Two dimensional effects such as optical illusions can be achieved through aesthetic choices regarding colour, texture and print. Three dimensional and sculptural components of quilted material can be manipulated and enhanced with further embellishment which may include appliqué, embroidery techniques such as shisha mirror work, and the inclusion of other objects or elements such as pearls, beads, buttons, sequins. Some quilters dye or create their own fabrics. In contemporary artistic quilting, new and experimental materials such as plastics, paper, naturally occurring fibres and plants amongst a diverse array of other materials have been used.

Quilting can be considered one of the first examples of upcycling, as it has historically made extensive use of remnants and offcuts for the creation of new products.

California Remains Sane

I had little doubt that the Republican attempt to recall California Governor Gavin Newsom would fail. My faith in California voters prevailed tonight with a land slide rejection of the recall. The ballot had two choices: number one was to reject the recall; number two was a choice of 46 candidates to replace Gov. Newsom. The leader to replace the governor was Larry Elder, a black conservative talk radio host, author, politician, and attorney, who advocated reparations for slave holders, opposed CoVid-19 vaccinations, masking requirements, opposed abortion and accused women of exaggerating sexism, among other far right positions. Tonight the votes of California overwhelmingly rejected Elder, voting to keep Gov. Newsom by 33% margine, 66.8 – 33.2 with 64% of the vote counted. The second choice on the ballot, who should replace Gov. Newsom, is now irrelevant.
